The apparel industry has begun speaking out against comments former House speaker and Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich made last month, when he called child labor laws “truly stupid.”

President Barack Obama recently sat down with 60 Minutes reporter Steve Kroft for what was a significant and full-throated defense of what his administration has accomplished in the almost three years he has lived in the White House. Obama pushed back on detractor’s suggestions that he has somehow both been obstinate in legislative negotiations and continually capitulated to the House GOP. He also remarked that when it comes to his potential opponent, ‘it doesn’t really matter’ who Republicans nominate.

Cable News personalities are known for, at times, revealing an inflated sense of self-worth and influence on the field of public opinion. While it is hard to quantify who actually holds more sway than the next opiniotainer, the clashing of egos is always more entertaining than the egos themselves. Take for example the recent back and forth between MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Fox News Chris Wallace, who find themselves in a bit of a fairly public and still blossoming feud.

There’s some bad news for crude male TV comedies this season: they’re all getting canceled. Goodbye, Man Up! and How To Be A Gentleman are goners.

ABC’s Man Up!, which AdWeek calls “a 22-minute compendium of fart jokes and protracted adolescence,” won’t be completing its run, that publication reports. CBS’ How To Be A Gentleman, a show cut from a similar thread, isn’t returning to the tube either.

Earlier this week Texas Governor Rick Perry released a campaign ad that critiqued President Obama‘s “War on Religion,” and lamented that we live in a time in which “gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.” While many on the Internet have been outraged and fought back, last night Stephen Colbert rushed to Perry’s defense.

In last night’s Last Word, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell acted as a character witness for embattled actor Alec Baldwin, who has found himself in the news after being kicked off an American Airlines flight for allegedly exhibiting “extremely rude” behavior after being asked to stop playing a game on his iPad. O’Donnell made clear to his audience that he didn’t know what really happened with Baldwin, but he did claim that he sat next to Baldwin on a flight to Los Angeles the Friday before, and found him to be a delight.

Welp, there it is. Lindsay Lohan’s much anticipated Playboy cover has already leaked and, well, we’re not exactly impressed.

Last week’s U.S. jobs report seemed to offer a glimmer of hope: the unemployment rate is down! But behind the numbers, it’s not for a good reason. In fact, it’s because so many women have dropped out of work.

In fact, in November, a whopping 339,000 women dropped out of the workforce. And 23,000 men entered it, according to The New York Times. Strange, isn’t it?

Most of the time, we’re raising questions about the more abstract barriers women face on their way to the top. In most industries, should a woman work hard enough and take on enough problems, she can, at least theoretically, go all the way. Except in one huge industry…the military. Why? Because the laws are insanely outdated.

Herman Cain suspended his presidential campaign this weekend, appearing to end one of the most surprising and strangest chapters in recent American political history. Last night, Stephen Colbert paid honor to the “Cain Train,” sending the former Godfather’s CEO off in fine style, by offering a new epilogue to his recent autobiography.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps earlier today and calmly called out what he saw as the GOP’s hypocritical stance on extension of payroll tax breaks set to expire at the end of the year. In a classic Obama rhetorical flourish, the president acknowledged that his political foes may opposed raising any taxes before asking why there’s a catch “when it comes to middle class families?” In terms of political gamesmanship, the White House aggressive position on payroll tax breaks has put the GOP back on their heels on an issue near and dear to their core belief system.

Pakistani actress Veena Malik’s nude cover for FHM India has the country in an uproar — and not just because she’s naked.

Malik posed for the cover of the Indian magazine with the initials of Pakistan’s “feared and powerful intelligence agency [ISI] on her arm”, a controversial move because, among other things and according to the AP, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency (or ISI) “has been accused of sponsoring terrorist attacks inside India.”

Donald Trump appeared today on his regularly scheduled Monday morning Fox and Friends segment and fought back against critics who have vocally railed against plans for the self-proclaimed billionaire and reality show television host to moderate a GOP debate sponsored by Newsmax, a conservative media outlet. A combative Trump specifically called out conservative columnist George Will, and continued his habit of insulting the presidential aspirations of Ron Paul, calling his campaign a joke.

Fox News’ Shep Smith feels a bit more genuine than many of his cable news brethren, and there is good reason for that evidence by the following clip. At the end of a segment in which Chris Wallace and he were discussing Herman Cain‘s embattled campaign, Wallace turned to something very near and dear to Smith’s heart, the embattled football campaign of his Ole Miss Rebels. Smith was having none of Wallace’s teasing, and tried to give as good as he got, but instead turned turtle and cut to commercial.

News of Donald Trump‘s selection as moderator of a coming Newsmax sponsored GOP Debate makes a complete mockery of an institutional process that is already short on credibility and gravitas. Any serious GOP candidate should follow Jon Hunstman‘s lead, do the right thing, and politely decline participation. Who will be next in line to show leadership and bow out of this sham of a debate?

Whenever one talks about advocacy versus straight news coverage, MSNBC — and Fox News for that matter — always point out that they are transparent about the fact that their prime time shows are opinion-based programs, not straight news. Their position, in essence, is that they are coming clean with viewers, so they know to expect opinion intertwined with the news. Fair enough. But that distinction now includes the news ticker at the bottom of the screen, which was the case last night during Al Sharpton‘s PoliticsNation.

The one above is the largest particular giant weta, a goliath of goliaths. The specimen was found by former park ranger Mark Moffett on Little Barrier Island in New Zealand, the only place giant wetas are known to currently live. Surprisingly enough, Moffett was actually looking for the bugs, so the discovery was something to be celebrated, not something to be feared and haunted by, as I initially assumed upon seeing the picture.

News of a rather stunning and significant drop of the jobless figures released today, appeared to not only catch the world of opinion journalists flat-footed today, but professional politicians as well. GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney appeared this morning on Fox and Friends just as the news of the 8.6% unemployment rate broke (down .4% from last month’s 9%), and host Gretchen Carlson immediately asked the former Massachusetts Governor if he thought this was a “big boost for Obama.” Romney’s reply seemed to reveal that he put politics over the nation’s improved fortune, as he diminished the news as a “silver lining.”

A lot has already been said about Bret Baier‘s recent interview with GOP Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and it’s somewhat contentious tone, but Stephen Colbert had something new to add during last night’s episode of The Colbert Report. Baier’s “testy” interview style was in stark contrast to the chummy chat he shared with then outgoing President George W. Bush back in 2008, revealing perhaps that Baier’s confrontational questions is not consistent applied to all of his subjects.

Today in terrifying tween trends: 12-year-olds are getting bikini waxes — for real this time. Good Morning America dedicated a segment this morning to the all the young girls out there getting blowouts and manicures and facials, and while we’re not exactly encouraging of this fad, it wasn’t until they got to the bikini waxes part that we got really skeeved out.
