Ann Romney, Out of Touch Like Mitt

mitt_ann_4.12

Ann Romney is on Twitter. And she’s not happy. Late yesterday evening Mrs. Romney made her debut after Hilary Rosen, noted democratic strategist, said about her: “[S]he’s never worked a day in her life.” To which Mrs. Romney replied: “I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work.”

Should The FCC Kick Rush Limbaugh off the Airwaves?

NFL Limbaugh Football

An op-ed written by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem that appeared on CNN.com suggests so.

Are Advertisers Making The Right Choice By Leaving Rush Limbaugh?

limbaugh

Yes, I’m fully aware that Rush Limbaugh’s vitriolic and misogynistic comments have sparked a firestorm that has morphed into a full-on boycott. As of this writing, 15 advertisers have called it quits, and those who remain have few options — all of which are uncomfortable, and have the potential to affect the bottom line in one way or another. So which option should a company choose?

Judge’s E-Mail Was Racist, But He Shouldn’t Resign

cebull

The federal judge who forwarded a malicious email that implied President Obama’s mother had sex with a dog has apologized in a letter to the President. The joke, which was at first circulated among friends and later leaked to the press, said:

Mitt Romney Isn’t Flip-Flopping; He’s Just Scared You’ll Remember He’s Mormon

romney_win_2.28.12

The Blunt amendment sponsored by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) would allow any business owner to refuse to offer employee health services and coverage for items that conflict with their “moral” or religious beliefs. Clearly the battle between women’s rights and religious liberty is continuing to heat up. Mitt Romney has something to say about it, actually two things. More on that later.

Republicans Don’t Know Anything About Entrepreneurship

jon feingersh

Over the weekend The New York Times delved into a crucial paradox: “Support for Republican candidates, who generally promise to cut government spending, has increased since 1980 in states where the federal government spends more than it collects. The greater the dependence, the greater the support for Republican candidates.” Which makes arguments by the conservative Heritage Foundation about how dependent the nation is on the federal government — and how it’s gotten worse during President Obama’s tenure — truly compelling.

Roland Martin’s CNN Suspension: Has GLAAD Become A Bullying Organization?

RolandMartin

Yesterday, CNN decided to suspend Roland Martin for his “offensive” tweets regarding David Beckham’s underwear ad for H&M. One such tweet read: “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him! #superbowl” In a written statement, CNN went on to say, “Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being.” The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) advocated for Martin’s dismissal shortly after the tweets went viral.

Is President Obama Afraid of Wall Street?

barack-obama-happy

On Sunday’s Meet the Press New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that “we need to stop demonizing Wall Street and all work together for the good of the country.” At least he got one part right. Because if Wall Street has been demonized, it’s safe to say the Pope’s favorite number is 666. There’s been a lot of talk in President Obama‘s administration, but very little action when it comes to Wall Street and their antics, which were partly responsible for the home foreclosure crisis and completely responsible for the risky investments that led to billion dollar bailouts shortly thereafter. It’s past time for President Obama to get aggressive.

President Obama Was The Only Candidate Who Could Afford To Denounce Super PACs, Yet He Won’t

obama01_16773717

President Obama has decided to give his blessing to Priorities USA, an “unaffiliated” Super PAC that will raise money on his behalf. Unaffiliated in the legal sense — the president will not correspond with the group as required by law. But obviously by giving his public blessing Priorities USA will be far more likely to raise funds from big money Democratic donors. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with this. It’s legal and GOP candidates are already using Super PACs to their full advantage. But there is something very wrong with this. Let President Obama tell you in his own words circa the State of the Union in January 2010

Think GOP Infighting Is Ugly? Check Out The Democrats…Of 2008

obamaclinton

Now that the attacks have sharpened between GOP candidates, many in the media are lamenting (or outwardly championing for Democrats’ sake) the possibility Republicans will cannibalize one another and leave the nominee just a political carcass that a DNC intern could lead President Obama to victory over. Not quite.

Newt Gingrich’s DREAM Act Requires Illegitimate Sacrifice

Newt+Gingrich

Newt Gingrich, who is never above pandering or slandering, claims he now supports a plan akin to the DREAM Act which died in Congress last year. While the original DREAM Act sought to provide a way for undocumented young immigrants to have a pathway to citizenship, Gingrich supports a faux DREAM Act that would do so by mandating military service.

The Only Two Arguments Democrats Need On Mitt Romney’s Taxes

MittRomney

Mitt Romney has bank accounts flung across the globe; The Washington Post noted a few countries where he has bank accounts, including Luxembourg, Ireland, Cayman Islands, and until 2010 Switzerland, which is a notorious tax haven. I’m not suggesting that Romney has done anything untoward when it comes to his taxes. On the contrary, it looks as though he has toted the legal line extremely well. But therein lies his problem:

Sen. Mark Kirk Suffers Stroke And Congress Still Unequipped To Deal With Medical Infirmity

giffords

This past weekend Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) suffered a debilitating stroke. It is too early to say what his recovery will look like but doctors are hopeful and think “prospects for a full mental recovery are pretty good.” I wish Kirk and his family all the best. My mother has been a registered nurse for over 40 years and has related to me in detail the horrific effects she has witnessed strokes have on once lively and impassioned individuals.

Red Tails Could Set Black Film Back

red tails 2

Red Tails, an all-black film, is opening today at a theater near you. If you happen to see it, do me a small favor: take a gander at the rest of the audience and see if they resemble the thespians on film. Chances are, they will. Supporting black films, and black art in general, should be a tenet of the African-American community. And frankly, it’s usually the African-American community that Black films are accustomed to relying on. What makes Red Tails unique in this regard is that it was produced, financed, and marketed by George Lucas, the billionaire creator of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, who is white.

Was Mitt Romney’s Win In Iowa More Significant Than We Give Him Credit For?

romney wins

Mitt Romney was able to accomplish something that his campaign feared was insurmountable — overcome the Mormon gap. Conventional wisdom and a dollop of common sense says the opposite, right? He barely beat Rick Santorum, a guy who has never placed in the top three of any poll taken this election season. Moreover, Romney’s Iowa win was the closest in GOP primary history and therefore barely a ‘win’ at all. But not to me, and not if you look at what is still one of Romney’s biggest weaknesses: Mormonism.

Why The 2012 Presidential Election Hinges on ‘Working Class’ Whites

whitevoters

Reading the news lately one would think that the 2012 presidential election will be determined by a Black electorate that is either brainwashed, according to Mr. Herman Cain, and at the ready to vote for President Obama, or a Latino electorate that has, for instance, increased upwards of “60 percent in Indiana and Ohio,” two crucial states to nearly any path to victory.

While both of these electorates are indeed important — especially to Democrats who typically are the beneficiaries of large turnouts in both — putting sole attention on either belies another important group: Swing voters.

Occupy Wall Street: GOP Is Making Similar Mistake As Democrats Did With Tea Party

occupy-wall-street-moves-uptown

Democrats are not the reason the Tea Party exists. But by ignoring the Tea Party — or in many cases, mocking it — until it was far too late, Democrats were ill-prepared to deal with the fallout that led to an unmerciful electoral defeat in the 2010 midterm elections. For instance, at one point Democrats were doing Republicans’ work for them. They figured tying the Tea Party to Republicans would yield a negative reaction from voters. Nope, not really. Instead, the Tea Party energized the Republican base and created the wave that rode the GOP to victory.

What Is President Obama Shoveling Us? Shovel-Ready Jobs Are Stuck In The Dirt

Barack Obama

What should be troubling for the Obama administration is that in most states the unemployment rate has actually increased between January 2009, when President Obama entered office, through August 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Of course, there has never been a silver bullet for unemployment. But the administration’s focus on shovel-ready jobs, in both the stimulus and now the American Jobs Act , should give us pause. Let’s break down why shovel-ready jobs were a focus in the first place, why more weren’t produced, and what it takes to make them a reality.

Herman Cain: GOP Race-Baiter And Race Apologist

images

When the GOP goes in on race, they really go all in. Last week Herman Cain had a public service announcement notifying Blacks that it’s time for the brainwashing to stop. No longer would Blacks blindly vote for Democrats whose policies clearly haven’t helped. Instead, he made clear they’ll be voting for him – well at least 30% of them. (Of course, that percentage may change, so stay tuned for more instructions Black People.) Clearly Cain’s understanding of the history of the Black vote and how it has shifted is more hazy than Gary Johnson‘s favorite medical marijuana dispensary. But more on that later.

Why Can’t The Congressional Black Caucus Be More Like The Tea Party?

091118_cleaver_ap_392_regular

The Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference kicks off this week in Washington, DC. The influence of the event is probably at its highest, with President Obama set to speak at the closing dinner and thousands scheduled to be in attendance throughout the weekend. But the same can not be said for the influence of the Congressional Black Caucus itself (CBC). Why isn’t the CBC the liberal equivalent of the Tea Party? Here’s how the Tea Party became so influential and the three reasons why the CBC isn’t yet capable of doing the same thing.
