Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and me, your humble correspondent, among others. He has called organized religion ‘desperately sexist’ and branded tea party leaders as stupid. Karma may have caught up with Martin.”

RELATED: Roland Martin’s CNN Suspension: Has GLAAD Become A Bullying Organization?

LGBT activist Wayne Besen from the organization Truth Wins Out thought CNN should go even farther and fire Martin.

“What he said gives license for people to harm LGBT people,” Besen opined. “Gay and Lesbian people are twice as likely than African-americans and Jews to be harmed in hate crimes. Four times more likely than Muslims and 14 times more likely than Latinos. There is a huge problem. We see it both with bullying in schools and also with hate crimes out on the streets. For someone to say because somebody looks different, because they don’t like the way the handbag they are wearing is, or a number of things, these tweets gave license, I think they allowed people to justify rationalize harming gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people.”

O’Reilly defended Martin, saying that the CNN contributor’s tweets weren’t explicitly about gay people. “We have to be careful, I couldn’t care less about Roland Martin, I don’t follow him. I don’t care what he says. I think is he a moron, but point is — he is being persecuted for mocking a soccer player and soccer player fanatics, not gays.”

“We know what he meant,” Besen countered.

“Can Romney ever convince the right he’s one of them?” Matthews earlier questioned. “Let’s look at this as an autopsy situation, he’s not dead but something’s going on.”

RELATED: A.B. Stoddard On Rick Santorum’s Caucus Victories: ‘People Are Rejecting A Coronation Of Mitt Romney’

“He’s not closing the deal with conservatives,” Gregory explained. “He’s also not closing the deal with some big names in the Republican Party who don’t just knock him as “The Wall Street Journal” did because he can’t be trusted on conservative issues, but because he doesn’t have a broad campaign with big ideas meant to deal with big problems.”

“Why is he held back from anything but the alternative to what he thought would be a badly wounded president?” Matthews asked Gregory.

Gregory suggested Romney will soon ramp up negative campaigning.

Bashir noticed Cameron was wearing a sweater during his earlier speech and asked the former child star if he was supporting Rick Santorum.

“Boy, you watched the speech, I’m honored you took the time!” Cameron exclaimed, and denied he was endorsing anyone.

Cameron told Bashir he was at CPAC to teach others about America’s rich history.

RELATED: Even Kirk Cameron Has No Idea Why CNN Brought Him On To Talk About Dead Birds

“That’s why I went on this personal journey, to be able to put my hand on the bars of the dungeons that the Pilgrims were thrown into and actually hold John Hancock’s John Hancock in my hands. So that I understand where we get the constitution, the Declaration, and the Mayflower Compact and all of the ideas that America has become famous for and produced this lasting liberty for 400 years.”

“That’s remarkable!” Bashir exclaimed and asked him whether there was a theological component to his message.

“I went on this mission to discover the secret recipe,” Cameron explained to a fascinated Bashir. “I want to know the secret sauce. Tell us what it is so we can move forward with it. What I discovered is the seeds that blossomed into this great nation really began with the faith of the Pilgrims. These seeds were planted in their heart by their pastor John Robinson. He, himself, was standing on the shoulders of great mean down through the ages that have passed it on. When you get to the end of this journey that I took in Plymouth, Massachusetts after visiting Holland and Washington DC, you arrive onto a hill overlooking Plymouth Rock and the Atlantic Ocean, and you see a monument that is the largest granite statue in America, 180 tons of granite and her name is faith.”

For its 2012 celebration, it has chosen to honor CNN’s Piers Morgan during its sixth annual gala (which runs from April 24 to May 7 this year).

BritWeek’s founder is Nigel Lythgoe, a Wirral, England, native who serves as a judge on FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance and a producer on American Idol. Past honorees of BritWeek have included Tony Blair, Sir Richard Branson and Timothy Leiweke (President and CEO of the Anschutz Entertainment Group). And the fete, which raises money for various charities, has been frequented by British transplants like David Beckham and Daniel Craig. It’s a fun, quirky series of events celebrating a very specific niche.

The beginnings of BritWeek are actually pretty simple. In 2007, Lythgoe approached then-British Consul General Bob Peirce with the idea. Peirce was keen to it, and an event was born. BritWeek has grown to now include film, design, and business innovation elements, as well as the large gala featuring the year’s honoree. “BritWeek is about what happens when British creativity meets Californian opportunity,” Lythgoe says, “and the result of that is always going to be exciting.” And Morgan, a hybrid of the two worlds, is, if nothing else, an exciting personality.

The clip drew a chilly reception from the crowd as much of the audience booed the MSNBC commentator. “We will fight the condoms on the beaches,” responded The National Review‘s Jonah Goldberg. “I don’t know! I’m waiting for my draft notice for the war against birth control!”

“Cal, let’s talk about this religious–this is serious, we laugh about it, but this is serious in terms of, if they get away with this, what would happen in a second term?” Wood questioned. “If that outrage doesn’t turn to action in November, what are we looking at here?”

“I’m really glad, Genevieve, that you played the Rachel Maddow clip. I think that she is the best argument in favor of her parent’s using contraception,” said panelist conservative commentator Cal Thomas. “I would be all for that! Well, it’s about time for politicians to use him in return. Nancy Pelosi herself is using Colbert as a poster child to promote her the DISCLOSE Act, a bill designed to combat the Super PAC-allowing Citizen’s United decision. What’s fascinating though is that Pelosi’s Colbert-centered campaign doesn’t just use the comedian’s image, it tries to get in on the joke as well.

The campaign is called “Stop Colbert” and the Colbert in question isn’t the Comedy Central host but rather “Stephen Colbert” the character. On the campaign’s Facebook page and in a tongue in cheek video, Pelosi pretends to attack Colbert as a pro-Super PAC money hoarder, which is, of course, the fake position of the show’s satire. The video is even designed to emulate one of the parody Super PAC ads that the Report has been making in the past few months.

Here’s Pelosi’s jokey narration:

“Stephen Colbert used to be my friend. I even signed the poor baby’s cast when he hurt his hand. But since the day he started his Super PAC, taking secret money from special interests, he’s been out of control, even using his super PAC to attack my friend, Newt Gingrich. And if that weren’t enough, I hear he doesn’t even like kittens. Colbert must be stopped. I’m Nancy Pelosi and I support this ad because Americans deserve a better tomorrow today.”

It’s a smart choice from Pelosi. Honestly, Colbert and his show has done more in the last year to let Americans know about the negatives of Super PACs that, say, the Obama Administration could ever hope to (especially now). By positioning herself (we’re assuming from the slightly inferior production values on both the ad and Facebook page that Colbert’s actual team had nothing to do with this) as being both in on the joke and part of solution, Pelosi might be able to give the bill the Colbert bump it needs.

Still, just like Stephen Colbert will probably never actually run for office, there’s something a little uncomfortable to watching Pelosi try her hand as a comedian.

Jenner explained that — in the same vein that environmentalists advocate making every day Earth Day — she wants to make every day Valentine’s Day with this very special — nay, “amazing” — lubricant.

“Now that it’s Valentine’s Day, you know, I’ve been sort of spreading the message that you can make every day Valentine’s Day and women seem to love it it’s clinically tested, and it’s fantastic. and you know what? Anybody in a long-term relationship or even a short one but for me I’ve been married 21 years. When I find something that can spice it up a little bit, I get really excited about it!”

“What is this product then?” Lemon uncomfortably queried. “Is it like a Viagra for women? What is it?”

“You guys have had all these products. You know, men, for so many years, that kind of help you out in the bedroom area. It’s like our turn now. So this is a topical product, and it works instantly. I love instant gratification. It’s kind of amazing.”

Did she mention Zestra was amazing?

That’s what precisely what Fox News’ Megyn Kelly seeks to find out.

As Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel told the America Live host Thursday afternoon, the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests that spanking children as a normative deterrent for bad behavior can indeed have a negative impact on them as adults, including putting them at higher risk for drug and spousal abuse.

RELATED: Megyn Kelly Confesses To Elle: ‘I Was Not An Attractive Child’

Proving his case? The defendant, Megyn Kelly’s mom. Having watched clips of Kelly shouting down the likes of Bill O’Reilly, her mother noted that Kelly was spanked as a child for just that — talking back.

Kelly the Younger then brought on her brother, Pete Kelly, to back her up. He also recalled being spanked on occasion, both by his mother’s hand as well as by the nefarious “Mr. Spoon.”

The anchor blamed her mom for having given her a lower IQ as a consequence of “all those spankings.” “Mom, I could’ve been at NASA!” she told her, rather aggressively.

“I programmed you to be an anchor,” said her mom. “And I did well.”

A heroic story took a dark turn this week in Colorado. Yesterday, on Denver’s KUSA, anchorwoman Kyle Dyer did a segment on Max, a large Argentine Mastiff, his owner, and the fireman who save his life. However, right at the end of the interview, something went wrong and Max bit Dyer right on the face, requiring her to be sent to the hospital and receive surgery.

On Tuesday, Max and his owner were walking along the Smith Reservoir in Lakewood, Colorado. The dog chased after a coyote and slipped on some ice, falling into the freezing water. He could have died were it not for the actions of fireman Tyler Sugaski who put on a wetsuit and swam out to save him. The entire incident was caught on tape and quickly went viral, leading to the interview on KUSA. Everything was going well until the end when Dyer leaned in to give the dog a kiss. Something spooked him and, in an instant, he whirled up and bit her on the face. The show quickly cut away but, according to updates on the network’s Facebook page, Dyer was taken to the hospital and Max was put into quarantine with animal control

Dyer’s fellow anchor Gary Shapiro wrote this note a few hours later:

“I wanted to update everyone on Kyle’s condition and relate some of my feelings about what happened this morning. I just spent some time with her, and she is doing incredibly well all things considered. Kyle had reconstructive surgery on her lip, after she was bit by the dog this morning on the air. Her recovery is going to take a while, but it is now underway. She wanted me to thank everyone w…ho has called, sent e-mails, posted comments and sent well-wishes and prayers her way. Kyle is going to be OK, although she will be off the air for a while.

This morning we were doing a human interest segment, as we often do on the morning show. Tuesday, a firefighter risked his life to save a dog named Max who wondered out on an ice covered lake and fell in. We wanted to do an interview with the firefighter, who many consider a hero. Max and his owner were here too. Kyle was glad she got assigned to it, because she loves animals. Max and his owner spent about 45 minutes in the newsroom before they went on the air, and many members of the staff greeted them and petted Max. He seemed perfectly normal. During the interview Kyle petted him, and talked to the two guest. At the very end of the segment, Max snapped at Kyle for whatever reason and got some of her lip. The firefighter immediately started caring for Kyle in the newsroom and to us became a hero for the second time. She was taken by ambulance to Denver Health Medical Center a short time later to be treated. “

Today, Fox News did an update on the story and revealed that Max should be released back to his owner within the next two weeks.

You can watch both the original incident (WARNING: It is startling) and the Fox News update below:

Well, look on the bright side, New England fans. At least no one on the street got to check out your mammogram records. That’s what happened to a 54 year old New York woman. You see, during the Giants’ big celebratory parade on Tuesday, businesses along the route were supplied with confetti to throw out. Unfortunately, some people got overzealous and started throwing out any paper they could find in their office without even shredding it. This meant that documents featuring people’s social security numbers, legal statements, and medical records were gracefully gliding to the ground.

That’s the story from Inside Edition and it’s kind of hilarious. I mean, it’s horrible and pretty frightening. But it’s still kind of hilarious.

As of yet, there’s no way to know if your information was included in the parade unless a news reporter randomly appeared at your house holding your bank statements and asking you how you feel (which they totally did to some guy). Basically, the best test I can think of is, if you’ve worked with a business along the route of the parade, go to their office and ask for your records. If they can’t retrieve them for you and quickly try to hide the Giants hat they were currently wearing on their head, it might be time for you to change your credit card passwords.

This debate, he told his colleagues, is farther-ranging than a specific health care issue.

RELATED: Joe Scarborough Slams Birth Control Mandate: The Catholic Church Is Being Attacked By Far Left

Former RNC chairman Michael Steele agreed, adding that the White House made “a political calculation” in creating a discussion that is “more about the health of women and more about those broader subjects as opposed to the very difficult angle on the relationship between the government and church.” Steele framed the words “health of women” as a sort of parenthetical, which fellow panelist Sam Stein did not appreciate.

“Let’s not put the health of women in boxes or quotes like that,” said Stein. “That’s not an insignificant consideration.”

Scarbrough was not having it.

“Don’t suggest you’re the only one who gives a damn about the health of women around this table,” he told Stein.

You might know him from the huge billboard featuring his face on the approach to New York City. You might even remember him from his bit role in 1997′s Volcano. But chances are, you don’t know a lot about him at all. His favorite beer? Heineken. His favorite music? Hip hop. His favorite politician? Right now, none of the above.

“I don’t understand how people put up with this,” Smith tells Mediaite. “On the left and the right. The crap coming out of their mouths right now — it just seems, to me, completely worthless.”

Smith’s an easy news personality to think you have figured out. He shows up on TV for a couple hours every day with the voice and look of a traditional newsman. His show — on the news side of FNC schedule, as opposed to the opinion block — doesn’t afford him the freedom to go on long-form Bill O’Reilly-style rants or to cozy up to Victoria’s Secret models to do a weather report. And he kind of likes it that way, preferring to focus on what he terms “real” — the straightforward news that cuts through all the fluff and opinion and just delivers facts. “I think what people like is real,” he explains. “I think that’s kind of what everybody is looking for, and it seems easier to me just to do real. I have a good time figuring out whats going on, trying to add context and perspective to it and telling people about it.” Whatever formula Smith is using seems to be working; he’s an integral part of the reason Fox News has spent 10 straight years as the top-rated cable news station.

Growing up in Mississippi, Smith was raised never knowing who his mother voted for in elections, an attitude that may have helped foster his ease with just reporting news and not letting his political opinion leak out onto the screen. In fact, the more you talk to Smith off set, the more you see just how much of a role his upbringing plays in his life. “I’m pretty well grounded in my Mississippi roots,” Smith says. And that may be an understatement. He flew back home 21 times last year to visit family. He still goes to college games with his father, who hasn’t missed a Mississippi football, basketball, or baseball contest in the last four years. He’s a New York Giants fan not because he lives in New York, but because the team’s quarterback, Eli Manning, also attended Ole Miss. In fact, Smith is a regular texting buddy with Manning, the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player.

“I stay in touch with Eli and the Manning family,” Smith says. “Eli Manning is a good man from a good family and I just think any kids growing up the New York area who want to find a sports hero — I think you can do a lot worse than Eli Manning. I’m just proud that he represented my school and remembers his roots and knows that he represents his family and the place he comes from. He acts right. And I’m just real impressed with him and proud to be friends with his family.”

Smith’s sports obsession doesn’t end with the Manning family, either. He has a habit of sneaking sports segments into his shows, and sometimes does it to the point where he has to be reined back in. “Every time we do too much sports, they remind me that we are not a sports network. We have Fox Sports, we have 12 Fox Sports networks, or 25 of them or whatever they are. But I feel like, if we do what we are really interested in, we can maybe get our audience interested.” He’s also no stranger to sports bars, occasionally popping in to Manhattan spots to catch a game. And if someone recognizes him, they more often buy him a shot of whiskey than pepper him with questions about Fox News. Smith says that he’s more comfortable talking sports, in fact, than he is talking politics. That is, if you can reach him to talk at all. “I go to the places where I know the bartenders and the managers and my friends and I can go in there and yell and scream at the TV and knock over cups and stuff like every ridiculous sports fan does,” he explains. “Sports is a big part of my life.”

Va.) and Marco Rubio (R – Fla.) made a joint appearance on Fox & Friends Thursday morning, and before they could even get a word in to start the interview, host Gretchen Carlson began raving about the duo agreeing to appear together.

“Wow, fantastic!” Host Gretchen Carlson exclaimed. “I’m seeing a Republican and Democrat standing next to each other in the same shot. Good morning to both of you! That’s a new revelation in the world we’ve been living in in the last couple of years.”

“There’s more of us than you think,” Manchin said.

Carlson began by asking Manchin why he decided to join forces with Rubio to try to get rid of the mandate. Manchin first explained that it shouldn’t be a political issue, then told Carlson that he had done everything he could in trying to talk the White House out of issuing the mandate.

“I thought it was wrong and encroachment on religious freedom and [the] Constitution, and that’s really what it should be,” he explained. “Marco and I — you know, there are more of us that are working together on common issues and what we think moves this country forward than just playing politics.”

Rubio agreed that it’s a Constitutional issue. “This is a very straightforward concept,” he said. “Here’s the question: should the federal government have the power to go in and tell a religion that it has to pay for something that the religion teaches is wrong? It’s a very simple question. And I think the answer to that is ‘no.’” Rubio added that President Obama, “should have followed the advice of Vice President Biden…who told him not to do this.

“It’s not Republican leadership that’s outraged by this,” Rubio clarified. “It’s the Catholic Conference of Bishops that are outraged by this. Some of whom supported ObamaCare when it first passed.”

Carlson later moved on to a poll saying that 86% of Americans disapprove of Congress, with only 10% approving. “Will that go up now since they see a Republican and a Democrat standing in connection with to each other?”

Rubio joked that it’s an interesting poll, because he has yet to meet anyone who approved of the job Congress is doing. “I understand why they’re frustrated,” Rubio said. “Let me give you a perfect example. I found common ground on the Agree Act with Senator Coons. It has a host of ideas that Republicans and Democrats agree on. I can’t get a hearing on the bill. We can’t get a vote on that thing.”

The other dinner guests, Breitbart told host Eric Bolling, were mostly educators who “looked like they came from the Barack Obama academic and aesthetic factory.”

“Isn’t there something contradictory in that, though?” asked host Soledad O’Brien, “Saying ‘I’m against it, but embrace it because the other guys are embracing it.’”

RELATED: President Obama Was The Only Candidate Who Could Afford To Denounce Super PACs, Yet He Won’t

“Well, because we can’t operate in a situation where we have only the resources we can raise in our campaign by very limited campaign finance rules,” said Wasserman Schultz, “and the Republicans will have several hundred million dollars in Super PAC money that will be dumped on President Obama in the general election. So, the rules as they exist now are the rules we will play by, but when it comes to the future and if the Republicans would step up right now, pass a disclose act, apply those new transparency rules and get rid of Super PACs to the election right now — which we would love to see — we welcome them and urge them to do that.”

She added that Obama wouldn’t become beholden to special interest groups now that he’s agreed to play the Super PAC game. “We have been the example in how to reduce special interests,” she said.

Walker said that Gingrich will focus on delivering a strong conservative message that “will be positive.” He also addressed a recent Wall Street Journal piece by Karl Rove that said, as O’Brien summarized it, that the race is now between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, and that keeping his head above water is going to be “impossible for Newt Gingrich” as he focuses on a “Southern strategy.” Walker said Gingrich’s focus is much farther-ranging, and includes efforts in Ohio and California as well as the South.

RELATED: Newt Gingrich Calls For SuperPAC To Correct Errors In Anti-Mitt Romney Bain Film

“Sounds expensive,” said O’Brien.

“It is expensive,” Walker agreed.

“How much money do you have?”

“Well, we’re doing pretty well, money-wise.”

“Like, a number?”

“I don’t follow the numbers day-to-day,” Walker responded. “We’ve been doing very well online, raising money online. Even yesterday, now that the inevitability is broken, the fact is that money is flowing to other candidates. We’re seeing an upswing in our online contributions as well.”

But negative campaigning, he later added, is essentially turning off the base, so don’t expect Gingrich to resort to that again. He issued them before, Walker added, to fight against the negative ads launched against him.

In this installment of the great Trump-O’Donnell feud that seems to have no end in sight, the latter hits all the scheduled stops on the Trump track: that Trump has no money, that his show is a false way to inflate an ego, that he is a laughable excuse for a human being and one day, it will actually hit him. Pointing out Trump’s comments in an interview with CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield in which Trump says that he would like a Cabinet job out of Romney “where I negotiate with some of these countries, because they’re taking our lunch.” He added that he did not want America to “keep losing our jobs to China.”

“The job you want is United States Trade Representative,” O’Donnell helpfully explained to Trump, adding that it was a Cabinet-level position, and that he would have a lot of problems with the confirmation process. “The Chief of Staff of the committee [a job O'Donnell once held] would learn everything there is to know about you… you will be asked in writing about your history of drug use, illegal drug use, and when is the last time you used them.” If that wasn’t enough, “not every little thing in your tax returns becomes public, just the really bad things.” O’Donnell added that he didn’t think that would bother Trump so much since he has a job where “you pretend to fire people who don’t actually work for you,” but that he would have a problem with a ~$200,000 a year salary because “you can’t live on that.”

But that, O’Donnell concluded, was irrelevant, because “Mitt Romney would never pick you to negotiate trade deal with the Chinese,” and that the Romney family wouldn’t hire Trump to “wash their cars.” “Romney knows you’re a buffoon, and unconfirmable joke, America’s biggest loser,” he concluded, before condemning Trump to his perch back on Twitter.

“I have nothing against Rick Santorum, he seems like a nice guy,” Trump told Van Susteren, before noting that Santorum lost by 19 points– “a record in the Senate for the incumbent.” He then went on to compare Santorum to a “student who gets thrown out of high school for bad marks but then wants to go to the Wharton School of Finance,” a school Trump knows quite well. “He ran, he lost by a tremendous amount,” Trump continued, adding that he could see that Pennsylvania voters “obviously weren’t happy.”

Van Susteren tried to play the role of Santorum and respond that “in 2006, the year he was beaten by 19 point by Senator Casey, they lost 23 of 33 seats, but in Pennsylvania, five conservative districts” and the governorship. Trump accepted that that might be, but he did not seem convinced at all that this was a sufficient justification for his lose. “How do you lose like that?” He asked rhetorically, “maybe it’s time to get into a different business, be a lawyer.” His tone on the matter got increasingly aggressive, culminating in him saying “somebody beat him by tremendous numbers and all of the sudden he says he wants to be president? Give me a break!” Trump did conclude on a conciliatory note, however, allowing for the opportunity that “maybe, over the course of time, he would be a great candidate and a great president.”

RELATED: Sean Hannity And Ed Schultz Locked In Feud Over Osama bin Laden

“Sean Hannity thinks there are tapes showing President Obama saying that he didn’t want to get the world’s #1 terrorist, Osama bin Laden?” Schultz explained, playing a clip of Hannity on his program arguing that “if he had it his way” the President would have never found bin Laden. He then elaborated on today’s exchanges between himself and Hannity, in which Hannity explained that he believed that without enhanced interrogation techniques, no one would have found bin Laden. “He’s very wrong, and I’ve got the tape to prove it,” Schultz said on his TV show.

He then played a clip of Deputy National Security Advisor John Brennan flatly denying that waterboarding or enhanced interrogation had anything to do with finding bin Laden, as well as a clip of President Obama promising that finding him was his top priority. What’s more, Schultz continued, “Hannity spent eight years propping up a president who admitted he didn’t care about capturing bin Laden,” he said, suggesting exactly the same thing Hannity had about President Obama about President Bush because of comments that President made that he was “not that concerned” about the individual bin Laden (which did not preclude dismantling the organization responsible for 9/11). nd on that now, clearly hoping for a response, Schultz concluded: “your move, Mr. Intellectual Honesty.”

O’Reilly began by explaining the situation– the federal government calling for Catholic-run medical institutions to provide birth control, and making a deal with Haffner that, should he be correct about the mandate forcing Catholics to provide birth control, she would have to return to the Factor while, otherwise, he would go to her church and try to convert people. Father Morris agrees to tag along (“great, you just made it worse” O’Reilly jokingly retorted), adding his serious point: that it was “not an issue about contraception, it’s an issue of religious liberty.” O’Reilly agreed, adding that he didn’t understand what the “beef” was with the government– “respect the religious teaching of their system.”

Rev. Haffner responded that the problem was that the government was only compelling the churches to provide insurance so that their employees could buy birth control– not for the church to provide it themselves. Father Morris jumped in to add that the morning after pill would also be included and calling it an “abortive agent,” adding that he could not see the government doing the same with a Muslim hospital should pork meat be found particularly healthy.

As the segment ended, O’Reilly reiterated that the Church “has a right to make its own rules,” to which Rev. Haffner replied in a heated end to the segment that she thought “the Catholic Church has to deal with its own sexuality problem” anyway, to which O’Reilly retorted that the reverend was “way off topic” with the comment, adding a second threat to give her congregation a visit.

Despite his personal ideological bent, the reaction from the conservative media was a swift defense of the longtime CNN pundit. But the conservative reaction to Martin’s suspension is no surprise because the conservative movement has long abandoned the left/right divide for a new war front: that between individuals and the media elite.

RELATED: Breaking: Roland Martin Suspended By CNN For Offensive Super Bowl Tweets

The Twitter story, taking place on Super Bowl Sunday, has been recounted many times, but for the unacquainted: Martin tends to tweet teasing jokes about sports very often– whether it be his various sports feuds with Touré or his soccer jokes to Piers Morgan. Last Sunday, his tweets were inclined more toward the latter, and he made clear he objected to David Beckham, a soccer player, interrupting his Super Bowl with his underwear. Many, including GLAAD, took the tweets to be an attempt to incite violence against gay men who would find Beckham in his underwear an attractive image. Martin apologized and explained himself: he was actually mocking soccer fans during a football game, not homosexual males. The context of the tweet– one before it with the tag “#superbowl” about actually buying Beckham’s underwear line, and one after mocking Piers Morgan for liking soccer– seems to corroborate Martin’s point, debatable though it might be. After what it called “careful deliberation,” CNN announced today that they would be suspending Martin.

This sparked its own outraged response from many who remembered several offensive comments made by CNN contributors that resulted in no such punishment– most notably Erick Erickson and Dana Loesch, the former for, among other things, threatening to “pull a shotgun” on a census worker and the latter, among still other things, encouraging Marines to urinate on corpses, for America. Naturally, the fact that a comment using the word “ish” in a description of David Beckham appears to pale in comparison to them, resulting in many expressing confusion as to what CNN’s standards really are. Despite appearances, there is a method to the apparent madness of suspending Martin while letting other commentators, most notably the Tea Party wing of CNN (even if Erickson may dispute this) run amok.

This reaction was mostly on the left though; the right, rather than try to take down Martin’s colleagues, reacted with exasperation at the outrage towards Martin. Gay conservative group GOProud founder Christopher Barron defended Martin by noting that he, too, made fun of the same ad. Glenn Beck admitted his distaste for Martin’s comment in general while defending his right to make a joke. “Free Roland Martin!” writes the Daily Caller‘s Jim Treacher, imploring GLAAD to “relax” over Martin’s “stupid” tweets. Newsbusters’ Brent Bozell called the entire ordeal “hilarious” and found the tweets among Martin’s “least offensive.” John Nolte at Big Journalism makes clear that he disagrees ideologically with much of Martin’s opinions, but “the thought of trying to silence him is anathema to everything I believe in.”

RELATED: CNN’s Roland S. Martin Livetweets Dave Chappelle’s Strange Comedy Set

As a conservative, Nolte is right that silencing Martin for his tweets is anathema to conservative philosophy, though he argues this point on First Amendment grounds. But beyond the philosophical ideal of pure freedom of expression, the underlying double standard that regulates “elite” correspondents is a fabrication, in many ways, of what conservatives perceive as the “elite left.” The answer to why Martin is punished when Erickson is not is that they belong to two separate classes of pundits– “elite” and “non-elite.” Non-elites are not expected to speak or behave in any particular way. These are categories that conservative philosophy patently rejects, particularly post-neoconservative philosophy inspired by liberatarianism and Palinist populism in equal measure. Much of that rejection comes from a more hearty understanding of freedom of expression, but also from the perpetual feeling that they belong to a permanent second class of thinkers– thinkers that can get away with saying more outrageous comments at the expense of their reputations in the greater media.

This sort of mindset is a relic of the withering “Old Media” empire, and it is not new: the Dan Rathers of the world must have surely squirmed at the idea of Geraldo Rivera ever being taken seriously, the panic that must have swept Newsweek when some gift shop employee with an email list broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Even in the post-internet world, old media has done its best to maintain boundaries that no longer make sense. There are “journalists” and there are “bloggers;” “public intellectuals” and “muckrakers.”

And Martin is only the most recent in a string of apparent media “elites” punished for seeming human, while “non-elites” enjoy much more extensive freedoms. Slate columnist Dave Weigel left his perch at the Washington Post for privately employing the use of, among other epithets, the colorful Nixonian term “ratfucking.” Weigel belonged to a class of people not permitted to speak that way, and was nominally relocated to a class that could. The story is one of the few of its genre that ends well, with Weigel still the best of the hard-nosed reporters at the Washington Post Co. Martin’s story is still incomplete, but falls along similar lines, the difference being that he exposed his own silly language without the help of FishbowlDC.

RELATED: GLAAD Demands CNN Fire Roland Martin Over David Beckham Tweet

Conservatives are often quick to argue that the double-standard on what is acceptable in the public discourse is one of ideology. That Martin’s story so acutely defies that– particularly in light of the comments of some of his conservative colleagues– shows that many conservatives can see the game in action but have historically had a hard time identifying the players. In this sense, Martin has the wind at his back– and, perhaps with the support of the conservative media community, CNN may recant and keep a valued and original voice on the airwaves that may just come back with newly-acquired wisdom on where the true divides in media actually lie.

Burnett was one of the first people to eyeball Friess standing on stage next to Santorum following his victories in Tuesday night’s caucuses. She said, after recognizing him, that she wondered if there was something fishy going on, because of rules about collusion between SuperPACs and candidates.

“I’m wondering,” Burnett asked, “If you think that was appropriate… that you continue to spend so much time visibly with him? Or maybe you think that it’s just transparent?”

Friess explained that the answer was simple. The lawyers told them that they just can’t talk about the SuperPAC, which is fine with Friess, because all he does is write a check and then leave it to others to run the organization.

“In fact,” Friess said, “Newt came up to me the other day and made some remark about one of the ads, and I said I don’t even see the ads. I’m not the hands on guy. I like writing the check and I turn it over to the guys that make it happen, much like the way I ran my business. My success came up not because of my brilliance, but because [of] the people I was fortunate enough to surround myself with.”

Burnett later asked about the level of Friess’ success, noting that plenty of media outlets have been referring to him as a billionaire, a designation he contends.

“A few weeks back, someone called me a billionaire. My wife comes up and she says, ‘Honey, you’re not squirreling money away are you?’ So I want to clear that up,” Friess said, laughing. “They say, ‘How do you want to be introduced?’ And I say, ‘How about billionaire wannabe?’”

The entire interview will air on OutFront at 7 p.m. Watch a clip of Burnett’s interview with Friess below, courtesy of CNN:

Whenever an anchor starts a comment or segment by saying something like “This may make people mad but…” or “I don’t mean to sound racist but…”, it usually means that what they have to say is going to make for good, blog-worthy television. We can add to that list another great conversational preface in the phrase “Can I just throw a conspiracy theory out here?” That’s the question Eric Bolling asked on today’s The Five and, hoo boy, did he deliver.

Basically, Bolling theorized that the only reason the Obama Administration has gotten into this birth control fight with religious groups is because it’s part of a secret plan to hurt Mitt Romney.

Wait, what? I’ll let him explain:

BOLLING: Can I just throw a conspiracy theory out here? Here’s what I thought. I was sitting at home this morning, I watched it. I saw [Santorum's] win. Then I listened to all the talking heads say, ‘Oh my gosh, Obama really screwed up here. This is a great opening for Conservatives and the Right.’ and it dawned on me-

BOB BECKEL: Screwed up on what?

BOLLING: Good point. Going after this Obamacare, making sure Catholic employers are required to provide sterilization and abortions and whatnot.

BECKEL: Alright.

BOLLING: So, it dawned on me, what if they were trying to derail this big Romney train that won Florida handily, that won Nevada handily. They go, ‘How are we gonna break up this train? How are we gonna break the Right up?’ And they did. They picked the very, very right side, partisan issue.

So, let me get this straight. President Obama’s staff got worried that Mitt Romney was doing so well that they made a deliberate decision to piss off our nation’s Catholics so that other Christians will also be pissed off and will want to get him out of office which will cause them to vote in the primary but, since they’re religious, they’ll vote for Rick Santorum instead of Romney which will hurt Romney’s momentum so that he won’t be able to beat Obama. Uh huh. Let that stew in your heads a bit.

After listening to the whole thing, Bob Beckel looked at Bolling and responded, “You know something, there was somebody on the grassy knoll in Dallas too.”

Andrea Tantaros, however, was much more accepting of the theory, positing that the Democrats want to talk about social issues like this Catholic thing until the election instead of other topics. That makes a whole lot of sense too. Clearly the Democrats are driving this conversation which is why they have their favorite media network devoting an entire segment to it on every show. You know what network I’m talking about; Fox News.

Perhaps in a helpful attempt to make Bolling’s theory seem more rational, Greg Gutfeld followed it up with a rambling, stream of consciousness analogy comparing Mitt Romney to Marsha Brady’s boyfriend in the episode of The Brady Bunch where she gets hit in the nose with a football.

Basically, this was a very confusing couple of minutes of television. And you can watch it all, courtesy of Fox News, below:

Platshorn, who spent some three decades in a federal prison for smuggling marijuana, shares that, when he was released, “the last thing I expected to do was become an activist.” And yet, he’s now become something of a poster boy for the movement to rally senior citizens around marijuana.

His generation, Platshorn says “invented marijuana as it’s known today,” and he wishes they’d be more educated about the ways cannabis can treat their physical ailments without the unpleasant — and sometimes lethal — side-effects of other medications.

Schultz then fired off a missive to Hannity on Twitter, challenging his rival host to, “show his ‘tape’ proving the President didn’t want Bin Laden dead,” followed by the extra-long hashtag “#obamaderangementsyndrome.” Hannity responded by repeating the hashtag, then saying that, “even u can figure this out, he did NOT support gitmo, EIT, Rendition, without which no Bin laden.” He later accused Schultz of being desperate and in need of attention.

Schultz, however, may just be smart. It’s not the first time that he has gone after his competitors. But today, after kicking up a bunch of dust by attacking an anchor on a rival network — and getting Hannity to respond for all of his 242,000 Twitter followers to see (Schultz has about 37,000 followers) — he artfully noted (twice) that he will address this issue at 8 p.m., on The Ed Show.

And that, no matter what you think of Schultz, is what one calls “sticking the landing.”
