I saw this demo'ed at the NY Tech Meetup by Zagats, who created the first AR application for the Android platform. Of course there are going to be good and bad implementations of this technology, just like any other, but that shouldn't deter those who actually have useful ideas of how to apply it. Amazing stuff. That's the start, though: implications for distance teaching (classes by the thousands or millions), AR games (real-world interactions that bring the real-exercise experience of systems like the Wii one step further), and even broader communicative integration. But with my lofty-futurist optimism comes the possibility for negative effects, too...can we say "3D pop-ups'?
