In this week’s Go Fork Yourself podcast, Andrew Zimmern wrapped up the last of his Superbowl Weekend recap, attacked the podcast patent trolls, and revealed that, a long, long time ago, pre-sobriety, fame, and fortune, he was the head cook at the Vanderbilt Estate, catering to the young master of the house, one Mr. Anderson Cooper.
Superbowl Recap part 24, by the way, included a brilliant story about Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland (who is apparently a big fan of Bizarre Foods) mobbing Andrew, and him not knowing that Kelly Rowland was a member of Destiny’s Child. (“I’m 51 years old!”)
Currently, Zimm is in New York shooting segments on both Live with Kelly and Michael and Anderson Cooper, which gave way to storytime. Andrew revealed that one summer, after returning from a year spent in restaurant kitchens in Europe, he picked up a job running the kitchens at the estate of Gloria Vanderbilt (aka, Anderson Cooper’s socialite mom). Anderson was but a wee bairn of 12 at the time, and while Andrew was busy catering to the breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and cocktail parties of the rich and the famous, he’d also be stuck catering to Anderson’s every adolescent whim as he “traipsed” through the kitchens. Sound like Downton Abbey much? That’s exactly what it was like.
