He’s currently in New York City with his puppy, promoting tomorrow’s Iams So Good! Zone event, but come October, Art Smith will return to emcee the James Beard Foundation’s Leadership Awards, which are the less glitzy, but still respectable offshoot JBAs honoring “individuals who are working towards a more healthful, sustainable and safe food system.”
This year’s honorees are Ricardo Salvador, Hal Hamilton, Cynthia Hayes, Gus Schumacher (who garnered a congratulatory Twitter shoutout from Hugh Acheson), and Marion Nestle, all of whom will gather at Hearst Tower on October 21 for the awards dinner, co-hosted by Good Housekeeping. This year’s awards will be presented as part of the James Beard Foundation’s fourth food conference, Paradox of Appetite: Hungering for Change.
Says Foundation President Susan Ungaro:
“We are thrilled to have selected leaders who are shedding light on the important issues that our food system faces, and who are helping to examine, clarify, and resolve major conflicts in the food world…Our Leadership Award recipients are on the front lines of innovation and education, constantly working to make our food system a safer one.”
