Comedian and notorious food lover Aziz Ansari just wanted to help all his celeb chef friends make apps and zerts in the kitchen at the recent City Grit fundraiser for Hurricane Sandy relief! But Bon Appetit’s writeup indicated that the men from Los Angeles’s Animal had other ideas:
“What can I do?” asked Aziz Ansari, striding into the kitchen of City Grit as Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (Son of a Gun, Animal) were readying their dishes of beets with dill and liptauer (the pair describes it as California pimento cheese). “Want me to plate your course?”
“Why don’t you take over my course?” said Shook.
Then Ansari, the food-mad star of Parks and Recreation, had a change of heart. “You know what?” he said. “We’re going to start our own rival charity pop-up dinner next door!”
Actually, you know what? No disrespect to the hardworking chefs like Sean Brock and April Bloomfield who put in so much work for this fundraising event…but an entire tasting menu of Tom Haverfoods would raise a boatload of money. The event’s name: “Treat Yo Self.”
(For the record: he was joking, because he’s a comedian and jokes are his thing. Also, you can see a pic of the whole group here.)
