If the James Beard Awards are the Oscars of the culinary world, then having Brian Malarkey headline the Book, Broadcast, and Journalism Awards Dinner is the equivalent of having Shia LaBeouf cater the Governors Ball. And we were so reassured by the Beard Awards’ legit factor this year after they announced that Stanley Tucci was going to be hosting!
Here’s the deal: The Tucc will, indeed, host the main ceremony on May 6th, the theme of which is “Lights! Camera! Taste! Spotlight on Food & Film.” Grant Achatz, Christina Tosi, Michael Mina, Nate Appleman, and Traci Des Jardins, among others, will cook dinner that night, creating “dishes inspired by a favorite food moment in a film of their choice.”
On May 3rd, Ted Allen will host the Book, Broadcast, and Journalism Awards Dinner, which Malarkey will “headline.” Basically, this means he gets to curate his own crack team of chefs to create dishes and put food out, including chefs from his own restaurants. Sorry, nation’s most prestigious food journalists. But you knew you were getting into a thankless business, right?
