Remember back in August when we brought news of ABC’s put-pilot commitment with Eddie Huang for a Fresh Off the Boat sit-com? Great news! It officially got picked up (which we knew it would, lest ABC “owe substantial monetary penalties to the studio”).
Basically, ABC agreed to order the pilot back when it was made, and sent Eddie a 90s-tastic gift-basket to seal the deal. But now that pilot season is upon us and official official announcements are coming out, ABC re-announced that yes, in fact, they’re going through with a ’90s period comedy about a Chinese family in Orlando.
“It centers on hip-hop-loving Eddie, raised by an immigrant father who is obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother who is often bewildered by white culture. With his father owning and operating an All-American Steakhouse chain, this loving family of FOB (“fresh off the boat”) Taiwanese Americans try to live the American dream while still maintaining their cultural identity and sense of family.”
Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan will take on this project as its writer/executive producer. Eddie will also serve as a producer on the show.
