“If there was one chef I wanted to emulate, it was Jose Andres,” said Hannibal series creator Bryan Fuller in an NBC featurette that goes behind the scenes of Hannibal’s “Eat the Rude” motto. The series kicked off last week, with an array of sumptuously prepared dishes including, but not limited to, a protein scramble involving human lung.
Fuller goes on to explain how the iconic cannibal’s relationship to food is crucial to this particular iteration of the story, and how Jose Andres got involved as the series’ culinary consultant. (It involved an email to his “ayent.”)
“Hannibal is a very sophisticated person, very exquisite. And food is the best way to show that someone is really sophisticated. You can’t guess from whom or where. That’s my role, making sure that food is there to send hidden messages to the viewers to who Hannibal is.”
