Yo, we know about Mission Chinese’s (RIP) beer keg for patiently waiting customers, but did you know that Danny Bowien’s latest outpost Mission Cantina gives away sparkling water for free? It’s true. You, too, can feel like a fancy person while paying less than $10 for some tacos, and, according to Pete Wells, reaching near-orgasmic levels while shoveling its uber-fluffy masa.
Pete gave the hole in the wall spot one star, which is super-impressive for a casual establishment, and weighs all of its potential using that fluffy corn dough as a scale. Writes Wells:
“Making masa from scratch is not, to put it mildly, the easiest way to run a Mexican restaurant. If you are running an inexpensive Mexican restaurant on the Lower East Side, it’s almost lunatic. And it’s awesome. It tastes like a promise from Mr. Bowien that one day everything on the menu will soar to its level.”
