The man known for designing many of London’s best restaurants, David Collins, died this morning after a “short” battle with cancer, his family announced.
Collins, whose firm boasted a prestigious client list with names like Gordon Ramsay and Claridge’s Bar, also worked for retailers like Alexander McQueen, and Hilton hotels, DesignWeek UK reports.
In a statement, David Collins Studios mourned the loss of its founder. “David died this morning at 1.20am surrounded by his family and loved ones,” they wrote, adding that he was “a truly gifted and inspirational man who has left us with some of the most remarkable and treasured interiors.”
During his life, Collins was renowned for his sophisitcated restaurant interiors, several of which won awards from TimeOut London, Esquire, and Elle Decor. His latest project, Colbert, won Tatler’s Restaurant of the Year in 2013.
