While Pete Wells’ review of the newly renovated Tavern on the Green was more cheerfully optimistic and less harsh than Adam Platt’s New York Magazine review, Wells delivered a “Satisfactory” rating to the restaurant in his New York Times critique. Translation: another zero-star goose egg.
Wells faults the “more than a bit green” waitstaff and poorly executed dishes, while Platt focused on the astronomical-prices-for-bad-food aspect of the historic Central Park restaurant.
Pete’s best zinger? In reference to the fact that the Tavern on the Green building used to serve as “a dormitory for the grass-munching residents of Sheep Meadow,” a response to some badly done ceviche: “Is it too late to bring back the sheep?”
