Yesterday, corporate America was stunned when Starbucks announced that it would provide all its employees, part-time AND full time, free college degrees via online courses at Arizona State University, which is an actual, real university. And to prove that it wasn’t a hoax, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz went on The Daily Show to tell a verklempt Jon Stewart that yes, this was real.
Even though the program will cost the company $50 million if only 3% of its employees take them up on the offer, Schultz said that the company wanted to invest in their employees’ futures. “The truth of the matter is, the country is not providing people at the lower levels of society the opportunities that people with privilege have, and we have to do something about it,” he told Stewart. ”
Stewart’s response: “You’ve got some Venti balls, my friend.”
