That Was a Great Idea
The Brazilian Balloon Priest was not so lucky. In 2008, the Reverend Adelir Antonio di Carli, in an attempt to both set records and raise money for charity, strapped himself to 1000 helium filled balloons and set off into the sky. Blown out over the ocean, and, it must be noted, doing something extremely stupid, he was never seen again.

Not to be outdone by well-reported reality, the Mythbusters set out to prove that this well documented phenomenon was actually possible. Turns out it was.
Who’s Copying Who?
Sticking with the theme, UP! made like a gajillion dollars this year, and appears now to have been ominously prophetic (now are you scared of 2012 people?!?). I haven’t seen it, but I’m guessing from the poster it is germane to the topic.
Death from Above
Of course, not all balloon related risk is self-induced. With Thanksgiving approaching, lets not forget the long history of balloon related mishaps that have marred the Macys’ Thanksgiving Day Parade. Remember people: when you play with helium, the life you save may be your own. Be careful out there.
