Marin did rack up some points in the entertainment category as he should have, but Anderson also racked up points in the world leaders category which, as a journalist, he had an edge in, except of course for that little Daily Double he missed.

Also, as a world traveler I was a bit surprised that Anderson didn’t answer a single question correctly in the category “The Continent Where You Will Find . . .,” attributing it to “brain freeze.”

He did however get the “Anchorman”/Will Farrell question and the Pet Psychic question correct. As I recall he had Pet Psychic host Sonya Fitzpatrick on 360 as a guest back in 2004 and he often quotes “Ron Burgundy.”
Based on what I saw, both Cheech and Aisha were able to answer more questions in a variety of different categories than Anderson did.

In regards to the “buzzer” controversy, I loved Erica’s little “visit” to 360 last night!

I can’t make any excuses for him missing the Indira Gandhi question either; he absolutely should have gotten that. However, Cheech Marin clearly shut out the other two contestants from buzzing in for a good portion of the game and Mr. Cooper did give more correct answers than incorrect ones when he *was* able to buzz in. I think Aisha Tyler did as well.

As libra blue pointed out, Mr. Marin is no idiot; he’s very bright. Most comedians are, IMHO. But he did rack up a ton of points on entertainment questions and questions about kitchen utensils, and he identified Mexico as a continent. I’m sure that was a nervous mistake, but no more so than Mr. Cooper missing the daily double that he definitely should have gotten.

Please. It’s a trivia show; hardly a true showcase of one’s intelligence. All three contestants have won the show at least once and are very bright people.

Overall, it was a fun show and made for a fun segment on 360 last night.

Although in Celebrity Jeopardy they bump you up to like $1000 for final jeopardy even if you’re negative, and you can’t wager more than you have; so it’s also mathematically accurate to say he ended at a tie with the lowest final score seen on celebrity jeopardy.

Saying your “all time tie for last place” is also “a tie for second place ” is mathematically accurate; but it is also really polishing that fecal matter.

I was surprised that all three of them missed the super easy Final Jeopardy. Alex practically gave them the answer.

Can’t make any excuses for Anderson when he blew the daily double on a subject he should have known. I think it looks worse for him because he always brags about being a Jeopardy champion. I like the way Anderson tried to blame it on the buzzer when he was interviewing Cheech on 360 last night.

BTW, what was Wolf Blitzer’s and Soledad O’Brien’s excuse?

It just goes to show you, if it ain’t on the teleprompter these glorified “readers” are not that intelligent.

CNN has not done worse than the other cable news networks when you look at the number of show hosts from the network who have competed on Jeopardy and the number who have lost. MSNBC hosts Olbermann and Chris Matthews both lost in their Jeopardy games. FOX News show hosts have been unwilling to compete except for Gretchen Carlson who lost to Al Franken.

As someone who actually watched this show, which it seems like the author of this article didn’t do, I can say Cooper actually did okay. He was ahead of Aishya Tyler for most of the show and ahead of Cheech too for some of it. Cheech was quickest on the buzzer so he cleaned up on the easy ones like “the utensil you use to drizzle juice over a turkey is a turkey baster” and “the guy who played Conan is Schwarzenegger” and pulled ahead. Cooper didn’t just “technically” tie for second with Tyler – they were at the exact same dollar amount going into final jeopardy, they both wagered everything and lost it when all three answered wrong, and they both were in the exact same position at the end of the game. That is a clear tie.

But it’s just one more confirmation that newscasters are hired based on how they look reading the news off a teleprompter. Anyone who thinks that knowledge and smarts are required need only look at how each of these CNN “stars” fared when they went on Jeopardy.

Hmmm, hired because of skill in reading off a teleprompter? No knowledge or skill required? Reminds me of that hero of the CNN set whose name is (to be continued)….
