Betty White Brings Golden Ratings For SNL – Best In 18 Months

It took an 88-year-old (and her uberbroad fanbase of Facebook friends and golden girls) to bring Saturday Night Live‘s best post-2008 Presidential Election ratings.

Betty White‘s Saturday episode had the highest overnight ratings for SNL in 18 months.

From the release:

With a telecast hosted by Betty White and featuring musical guest Jay-Z, last night’s “Saturday Night Live” averaged an 8.8 household rating, 21 share in the metered markets, highest for the series since November 1, 2008 (9.0/20 for a telecast hosted by Ben Affleck with musical guest David Cook and guest appearances by Republican Presidential nominee Senator John McCain and Tina Fey as Governor Sarah Palin just prior to the 2008 election).

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, the May 8 edition of “Saturday Night Live” averaged a 5.1 rating, 20 share in adults 18-49, also the show’s highest rating since November 1, 2008 (5.2/18).

The actual ratings are released Thursday.

Our friends at TVByTheNumbers offered up a mea culpa for predicting that “the idea she’ll score the year’s Best ‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings is goofy.”

The show was the penultimate of the 35th season – with Alec Baldwin and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers closing it out this Saturday. But there could be surprises too – the New York Post reports Justin Timberlake has taped a “secret segment” for the finale. Maybe song #3 from the “Dick in a Box” team?
