Speaking in Detroit this afternoon, Vice President Joe Biden verified earlier reports that MH17, the Boeing 777 that crashed in Eastern Ukraine, “apparently had been shot down.”
“Not an accident,” he told reporters, according to The Hill. “Blown out of the sky.”
US intelligence confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that they had detected a surface-to-air missile, though they were unsure whether it came from Eastern Ukraine or Russia.
Biden added that he was dispatching a team to the Ukraine to investigate, and had offered Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko assistance during this time. However, he could not confirm reports that American citizens had been on board.
