CNN: Birther Conspiracy Not As Great As Van Buren’s Corset Problems

In case you were feeling a bit down after a recent CNN poll revealed that a quarter of Americans still have their doubts about President Obama’s citizenship, CNN has published a short piece on the apparently time-honored political tradition of trying to defame sitting presidents with outlandish accusations. Given what some past presidents have had to put up with, the “birthers” are a comparatively tame lot.

After speaking with a number of historians from across the country, CNN compiled a list of some of the wilder, more priceless president-related conspiracies. Thomas Jefferson, for one, struggled with his apparently cosmopolitan image; some Americans found him simply “too French” to be a legitimate U.S. president. Andrew Johnson, on the other hand, faced the exact opposite image problem. Johnson reputably had a few too many drinks at Lincoln’s second inaugural ball, a fact that didn’t endear him to anyone when he later began reversing many of Lincoln’s Reconstruction policies. None of these accusations, however, even hold a candle to Martin Van Buren’s plight:

Some other presidential “imposters” included Martin Van Buren, who was accused of not being fit for office because he allegedly wore a woman’s corset.

Sorry, birthers. “You weren’t born here” just doesn’t have the same oomph as “You dress like a woman.”

It’s really weird that this article appeared out of nowhere. Do they really know something about Obama’s birth certificate? If anything, I would say it’s his own handlers who keep it like the Sword of Damocles, so their man in WTon does what they tell him to.

I would be more interested in the fact that Mr. -0bama is reported to be chain smoking these days. I guess being so far down in the polls is taking its toll.

Can CNN not do a story about the 20+ Social Security numbers that Obama was found to be linked to by private investigators? Can CNN not do a story about why Obama is hiding all his birth, school and lawyer records despite promising to run the most transparent administration? Can CNN not ask Michelle Obama (and the Kenyan Ambassador to U.S.) why they referred to Obama as Kenyan-born as shown on Youtube? Can CNN not ask the Parliament of Kenya why they referred to Obama as Kenyan-born in the official Hansard parliamentary transcripts? Can CNN not ask other fellow African journalists why they refer to Obama as Kenyan-born in their publications and newscasts?
CNN, its time to stop your agenda-driven news and start acting like a real news network that you were 20 years ago. Seek the truth, wherever that will lead. Otherwise people will gravitate to those outlets that report the truth.
It’s no wonder that the latest Gallup poll found only 22% of Americans trust broadcast news. (http://www.gallup.com/poll/142133/Confidence-Newspapers-News-Remains-Rarity.aspx?version=print)
    Duh, I wonder why!
