Everything is how you ask the question. If you asked, “do you favor a complete takeover of the healthcare system by the gov’t”, the percentages would be well under 40%. It’s ridiculous to say the over 70% favor a public option when less than 50% favor a public healthcare administered by the fed. Statistics are dangerous as the author can lead you down any path he/she decides. In this case, if the author wants to lead you to believe over 70% of Americans approve of the public option, it’s a lie.

Why would any normal American think a ‘public option’ is bad in this media climate? Nobody on network news is going to show Barney Frank or TIDES explicitly saying it’s the way to single-payer.. it is the first step in the process all of these people openly advocate, one that is almost always deficient around the world. If they were really concerned with insuring the uninsured, they would get Medicaid to work(fat chance), and do something about it before Obama’s re-election bid whilst collecting taxes in the meantime. Only these people will tell you a government takeover of health care will reduce the deficit!
