Chyron Of The Day: McCain’s Challenger Was ‘Formerly’ Female, Says FNC
Fox News, 10:09amET (Monday):
Gawker noticed an error yesterday on FNC’s America’s Newsroom – a pretty glaring chyron mistake, that identified J.D. Hayworth, running against Sen. John McCain in the Arizona Senate primary, as a “former Arizona Congresswoman.” Yeah, that’s not right.
The chyron was up for about seven seconds before it was taken down and replaced with a new one, but certainly enough time for viewers to catch it. Does this fit into the new “zero tolerance” policy at FNC?
Hayworth was talking about a female politician at the time – that Sarah Palin had endorsed McCain and will be campaigning for him. This continues a theme of endorsements for the longtime Senator, from tea partiers like Dick Armey to former primary opponents like Mitt Romney.
Meanwhile, it’s probably not a great idea to misspell the word “chyron” when a misspelling is the crux of your story – but that’s what Gawker did in the first sentence (“chiron”).
