One other aspect of Napolitan’s comment. By not addressing initially anything on the security systems before the incident was leaving it open to the public (Al Qaeda too) that maybe underwear bombing methods could work. Maybe not. But there was room for hope for bad guys and despair for good guys.

I get your point about ‘literally’ what Napolitano stated. Here’s part of my issue with Napolitano’s response. First off, she came off a bit tone deaf on the issue. Lot’s of people waiting to fly over the holidays were tuning in about what’s going on. As it turns out, at best she did not help Pres Obama out, at all with her comments.

Another point is she seemed to approach it from a politician’s angle and not from being the chief of Homeland security. She either wanted to let the public know, if your on a plane and a bomb attack is attempted, then that’s how you passengers should respond. She also played a little CYA and also informing the public that the different agencies such as TSA or other govt entities reacted properly to what went down. Again, tone deaf, even if it were true!

At best she left room for people to interpret she was playing politics, defending the govt’s reaction, or anticipating need for CYA. Her job is more aligned with want went down Before Abdulmutallab boarded the plane. That’s what the public or at least me was listening for.

I think if she had come out more focused, you know, from more of Pres Obama’s 2nd address to the public like something went down and that the govt will need to find out if there was anything Homeland security could do to strenghten the security, then I would have felt more comfortable that Napolitano was focused on securing Americans (and non-Americans). You know the mindset and verosity of our homeland security secretary.

What do you think? Is there room with you that Napolitano could have done better with her approach?

I’ll submit to you that I did graduate 6th grade. You can take my word on that (or not).

Napolitano: One thing I’d like to point out is that the system worked. everybody played an important role here. the passengers and crew of the flight took appropriate action. within literally an hour to 90 minutes of the incident occurring, all the flights in the air had been notified to take some special measures in light of what had occurred on the northwest airlines flight. we instituted new measures on the ground and at screening areas both here in the united states and in europe where this flight originated. So the whole process of making sure we respond properly, correctly and effectively went very smoothly.

Those of you who made it out of the 6th grade should be able to comprehend that statement. Or you could just watch fox news. Of course they’re the same network who likely didn’t inform their viewers that 2 of the people who helped this idiot with this bombing plot were released by the Bush administration. This is why you’ll continue to loose arguments with those who are in fact, informed!

From December 2001 to December 24th 2009 there wasn’t a similar situation (that I’m aware of, please correct me if I’m wrong).

The question has to be asked, what policies did Obama change when he came into office regarding information sharing? Stratosphere is reporting that an anonymous DOS employee says “that despite statements from the Obama Administration, such information was flagged and given higher priority during the Bush Administration, but that since the changeover “we are encouraged to not create the appearance that we are profiling or targeting Muslims…”

Take it for what its worth, since it’s anonymous (and I don’t put much faith in anony statements), but will more folks start doing public CYAs now?
