The only reason the media hyper-covers these relatively insignificant elections in off years is because they have become lazy and spoiled. Rather than go out and find news and report it, they are now contest to sit around and read it off a piece of paper and just do heavily scripted stand ups in front of firehouses.

It is so much easier to exaggerate and create conflict than to research and report.

The only addicts in this scenario are the lazy, self centered, dishonest, people that call themselves journalists, but are really nothing more than talking sock puppets with a serious addiction to themselves and their voices.

Saying that America has a new pastime and it is politics is the only way the useless media can justify their own fascination with themselves and their almost total abandonment of actual reporting.

The level of national attention to fairly small elections is pathetic and offensive. In case the media has forgotten, there are real stories out there that are now ignored - 2 wars, a recession, unemployment and - oh yeah - the most dysfunctional Congress in history.

I stopped watching the news and reading the paper for the most part since I got tired of the endless self serving garbage that is now called news.
