Explaining The Unexplainable: Why’s Donald Trump Joining The Birthers?

After a failed attempt earlier in the week to provide his birth certificate, Donald Trump on Tuesday proved that he is in fact an American citizen. Trump is the latest person to demand that President Obama prove he, too, is an American, and the stunt got people wondering about Trump’s intentions. The birther movement may have found its biggest supporter in Trump who, many say, is pandering to a conservative crowd as he eyes a potential presidential run.

“Trump and his cheerleaders have good reason to believe there’s traction to be gained in the primaries by hauling the birther issue from the political wings to center stage,” says Tim Hodgson at FrumForum. “It’s an unconventional play for someone without any elected experience,” adds Patrick O’Connor at The Wall Street Journal. As Trump continues to voice his claims, some commentators are fighting back. Here, their best jabs and jibes:

Just be honest, Donald: “Frankly, I wish Trump and his fellow birthers would just go ahead and call Obama an N-word. Yes, it would be reprehensible and offensive. But it would be a damn sight more honest, too,” says Leonard Pitts Jr. in the Miami Herald.

This reflects poorly on the GOP: “I think Trump is having a publicity-seeking lark. But whether he’s really serious this time or putting us on again, Trump’s birther ploy exposes how much the Republican Party’s nutty wing is driving their looming primary contest like a tail wagging a dog,” says Clarence Page in the Chicago Tribune. Obama should just let these attacks go on because “why get in the way of the opposition party when they’re coddling their own kooks?”

Maybe there’s something else going on…: “One has to ask: Is Donald Trump, seemingly a ‘birther’ running for the GOP presidential nod, really an Obama sleeper agent?” asks Robert Schlesinger at U.S. News and World Report. Do I really believe that? Well, “I’d put it this way: This conspiracy theory requires as big a suspension of disbelief as does contemplating President Donald Trump.”

…is he even real? “Have you ever met Trump? No, you haven’t. You’ve seen him as an assemblage of glowing pixels on a screen. That proves nothing. Homer Simpson is made up of pixels too,” says Peter Grier in The Christian Science Monitor. “This indicates that Trump may be an animation –an animation drawn by artists in a foreign country, we might add.” But enough kidding around: “We know Trump is a real person.” Right?

Donald Trump is a low down sleaze like all birthers. He is pimping the birthers cretin crowd trying to gain traction in the Republican field. These dregs are lyers and immoral people.

One thing he knows, is how to get the media attention, and he has done it again. He has NOT announced his entry into the Presidential race, and will not. I don’t think he ever intended to do it in the first place.
This just get’s the media attention and that was his goal, and he did it again, to promote his apprentice show. He spoofed us all again.

I can’t remember the last time I heard Karl Rove make so many salient points (pro and con). He was discussing a Trump candidacy with Bill O’Reilly.

Quiet impressive … including why he thinks Trump should tone down the hyperbole (e.g. “all of Iraq hates us”) and his suggestion that Trump’s birther meme will marginalize him with the majority of Americans. Rove was also not too keen on Trump’s broad generalities and lack of specifics.

As for Billo we need to take what he says with a grain of salt. He and The Donald are BFF. They even attend Yankees games together.

All things considered the O’Reilly-Trump and O’Reilly-Rove segments certainly made for compelling television. Not too many do it better than O’Reilly.

I’d also like to see Trump and Chris Wallace go at it. It could be interesting.

The reason he is doing this is that he isn’t running. Just like he didn’t run the 6 or 7 other times he has flirted with running.

He is just ginning up attention for his silly tv show (which is on NBC–where is the outrage people on the right???) where he fakes hires and fires people who are loosely defined as “celebrities.”

Hell be done with all this silliness soon enough.

Questions about Mr. Obama’s background, including his birth, are questions about facts. Questions about facts cannot be settled by investigating and impugning the motives of people demanding the facts. Neither can they be resolved by insulting, abusing, and slandering those who would like the facts. Questions about facts are settled by facts or not at all. That some people are of the opinion that enough facts have already been provided does not settle the controversy, for other people still believe more facts are needed. Mr. Obama has only himself to blame for this steadily growing controversy. Had he been forthcoming and provided whatever documents were necessary to quiet doubts about him this matter would long since have been over with. It is his inexplicable refusal to provide documents and his refusal to explain this suspicious behavior that causes Americans to think he is trying to hide something from them. Sneering, slandering, ridiculing, insulting and abusing skeptics will not make this problem go away. The only thing that will make it go away is documentation. The longer this is deferred the bigger the problem becomes.

Disputes about facts are settled by facts, not insults and opinions. It is quite remarkable that so many people seem incapable of comprehending this elementary point.

President Obama could stop all of this non-sense by releasing the original birth certificate – not just the “certification of birth.” I believe he was born in Hawaii but I do not understand why he won’t release the document.

That’s how the various partisan sides operate when they come across uncomfortable questions or situations. Instead of dealing with the issue, a harmless one in fact, they attack those that dare question the elected leader. We are seeing it now also with the Libyan War (Kenetic Military Operations that’s not a war but people are dying). Just like the Iraq deal. If you question them they claim it’s unpatriotic instead of dealing with the issues. Funny how things change.

Now instead of just asking O-Bomb-a to put this whole nonsense to rest by releasing the actual BC they attack the question. Tyranny 101.

Who is Leonard Pitts Jr.? There’s a case of someone who we need a birth certificate to believe they actually EXIST.

But yeah I’m totally digging the rest of this article. He’s totally PANDERING to people by making an issue out of something, which he thinks will get him votes and support. He’s bringing politics to an all time low with this new kind of stunt…

There is little doubt that Mr. Trump has political aspirations, but his motives are one thing, the facts about Mr. Obama are another. There is no logical or necessary relationship between that facts about Mr. Obama and people who want to see them for themselves. This is an incredibly difficult point for many to grasp, doubtless because they do not desire to grasp it.

The facts about Mr. Obama are the facts no matter who wants to know them, why they want them, or what they intend to do with them.

The facts about Mr. Obama have nothing -repeat, nothing- to do with the personalities, morals, motives, politics, or sanity of people who want the facts. The worst people in the world could want the facts about Mr. Obama and that would not change the facts one jot.

There is a growing controversy about Mr. Obama’s past that is not going to go away without more facts. He has refused to provide these facts. More and more people think he is hiding something important from the American people. They want to have more facts so they can decide for themselves if he has been straight with Americans.

Other people think there is no need for more facts. They don’t agree that there is any room for legitimate concern about Mr. Obama’s past. They think those who have such concerns are doing so for sinister reasons. They impugn the motives and assassinate the character of skeptics who want more facts about Mr. Obama.

The way to resolve a dispute about facts is by producing the facts to resolve it. It does not suffice to say there is no dispute, there should be no dispute, there are no grounds for such a dispute, and things of that sort. The fact is that there is a dispute about facts and that facts are needed to settle it. Insults will not settle it. Speculations about the motives of skeptics will not settle it. Only facts can settle a dispute about facts.

Mr. Obama has refused to provide simple documentation that could easily have settled this issue long ago. Indeed, he has actively resisted efforts to discover the facts. This causes more and more Americans to be suspicious. He seems to be hiding something.

It is time for Mr. Obama to provide all necessary documents to resolve this issue. Failure to do so will continue to raise suspicions that he is hiding something. No matter how many insults and evil motives defenders of Mr. Obama attribute to skeptics who want the facts, the issue will not go away until the facts are supplied.

unfortunately for you this matter was settled long ago….even the US Supreme thru out the Orly taits case about Obamas birth certificate….if you choose to ignore FACTS you don’t like that’s on you…But FACT IS Obama was born in Hawaii so instead of dumbasses like you asking for Obama to prove its so why don’t you wingnuts prove it isn’t??? why????…..cause YOU CANT….so you hold on and embrace the conspiracy theory …hell even glen beck calls you birthers crazy….that in itself is shameful…..GET A LIFE….GET A CANDIDATE AND WE’LL SEE YOU AT THE POLLING PLACE IN 2012….KNOCK OFF THE BULLSHIT

This changes nothing. To settle a dispute about facts requires facts. Your opinion that no more facts are necessary is your opinion. Others have another opinion. The way to find out who is right is to obtain the facts necessary to settle the dispute. Telling people that they ought not to think what they think and calling them names will change neither their thinking nor the facts of the case, whatever the latter may be.

I am one of a growing number of Americans who are not particularly invested in the birth certificate and citizenship issue but who have become convinced by Mr. Obama’s secretive behavior that he is trying to keep something hidden from us .I have no idea what he wants to keep hidden. Neither does anyone else who does not have the facts. Mr. Obama could put this matter to rest in 30 minutes or less by providing the necessary documentation. It is purely and simply his inexplicable refusal to release documents about his life -not just his original birth certificate but virtually everything- that is fueling and will continue to fuel suspicions about him.

Admirers of Mr. Obama would do everyone, including him, a big favor if they stopped wasting their time and energies insulting skeptics and telling them they do not need any more facts and instead tried to convince Mr. Obama to release the documents necessary to settle this dispute. It is simply not going to go away otherwise. Indeed, it is steadily getting worse. More and more people are paying attention and asking themselves: If he has nothing to hide, why does he insist upon hiding something?

  • HostileLogic

First, I am not a “birther. I don’t know WHY Obama goes to such extraneous lengths to keep his Long Form Birth Certificate (LFBC) out of the public eye. But I do know when someone is trying to hide something.

When someone is trying to hide something, usually it’s not a fact that myself and others have to dig up from research. The “hider” will tell us he’s trying to hide something. This is most often way of things.

Neither do I understand why he goes to such extraordinary lengths to keep so many other documents hidden. We do realize, yes, that many of these other documents that he has locked away are relevant and should be open to the work of presidential scholars and other historians?

But let’s just put these other documents aside for a moment and concentrate on his LFBC…

A man spends a fortune in legal fees because he does not want his LFBC disclosed. Then his supporters say he has nothing to hide and people like me are all called “loony tunes.”

    This is logic? No.

Again, I am not a “birther.” I tend to think he was born in Hawaii. But he is hiding something that he doesn’t want anyone to see and this is an indisputable reality that Obama’s own ongoing actions are resolutely demonstrating.

As for all of the many other documents, many related to his scholastic records, why is he hiding them from the public eye? Again, his defenders will say that he has nothing to hide. Well, that and a lot of vulgar invectives. When you have no logical explanation to offer, hurl excrement.

    This is their defense.

I want to share a very simple, undisputable piece of logic with everyone: when a person puts out an effort to hide something – that means that they have something to hide.

    See, that wasn’t too hard.

    Or was it?

It is probably too hard for some, but not for most. For most, it is a case of intellectual dishonesty. It is inconceivable that anyone with a roughly normal IQ and a rudimentary education would not be able to grasp the simple logic that questions of fact can only be resolved by facts, and that Mr. Obama’s inexplicable refusal to provide the necessary facts evinces what the law calls consciousness of guilt. He is behaving like someone who is guilty of something, who knows he is guilty, and who is seeking to escape the consequences. He may or may not be guilty of anything – and if he is guilty of something, it may or may not be significant. There is no way to know until we have the facts of the matter. There are perhaps some people who are too dim witted to comprehend all of this. I don’t think there are very many or that they count. The vast majority of people who seem not to be capable of understanding such elementary matters are, I am convinced, speaking in bad faith. They are being dishonest, perhaps beginning with themselves. They talk and write like imbeciles who are unable to comprehend the obvious because they do not WANT to comprehend the obvious and think that by denying it and attacking those raising questions it will go away.

The alarming thing is the extent of this bad faith and intellectual dishonesty. I would never, ever have believed that so many Americans, many of them in responsible positions, could behave like this. It is a somber and sobering discovery. It is, I fear, a bad sign. A nation with such a large number of citizens without a reverent regard for the truth, whatever the truth may be, is not going to be capable of self-governance for long. The media and the academy have disgraced themselves and set terrible examples that others are only too ready to emulate. The rot begins at the top and trickles down. It is a manifestation of a thoroughly disordered and diseased educational establishment that has failed in the basic responsibility to inculcate the respect and, when possible, the love of truth. It is, of course, not always possible for us to love the truth, for the truth does not always accord with our desires. But it is possible, and it is essential for the preservation of liberty, to respect the truth. Our bien pensant fail on both counts. They neither love nor respect the truth. Further down the pecking order come the rude and vulgar ignoramuses everyone is familiar with from their posts. Such people are given license by the bad faith and intellectual dishonesty of their betters, those who know better but refuse to do better.

People with nothing to hide do not hide something. Disputes about facts can only be settled by facts. They cannot be settled by opinions, professions of personal faith, statements that there are already enough facts, or that there is no use providing more facts because skeptics would not believe them(!). Some people have actually made the latter claim with perfectly straight faces. The media is trying to manipulate politicians into making public professions of faith about a matter having to do with facts – credo quia impossibile est.

And of course insulting and abusing people who want more facts, while it seems to make some people feel better for doing it, has absolutely nothing to do with the issue, just as the actual or imagined motives of those who want more facts have absolutely nothing to do with the issue. The issue has to do with the facts. Mr. Obama is refusing to provide those facts. This makes him look like he is hiding something. Until we have the facts, we do not know what, if anything, he is hiding, nor how important it is.

As sergeant Joe Friday used to say: Just the facts, m’am. No need to ramble, rationalize, theorize, abuse, insult, slander, or use bad language. All we need are the facts. Facts are the remedy for what ails us. Give us the facts and we will know what they are.

The liberal primer for debate is to shout invective once the talking points fail.

but that doesn’t answer why ALL Obama’s past history has been sealed. you can see George W.
