Now This: Hillary Clinton For Secretary Of Defense?
‘What will Hillary Clinton‘s next job will be’ has become a bit of a favorite media parlor game of late. Ever since President Obama‘s numbers really tanked speculation has ramped that she could launch her own Presidential campaign in 2012 (probably unlikely), or alternately that she will be tapped by Obama to replace Joe Biden as VP (unlikely but possible).
Here’s the latest. When Robert Gates steps down as Secretary of Defense, something he says he plans to do next year, Hillary would make for a great replacement. Here’s what Chuck Todd twittered out yesterday:
If I were setting odds at some Irish bookmaking web site, I’d make Hillary Clinton the early favorite to replace Gates at the Pentagon.
Hillary to Defense proverbial “win-win” for WH and Clinton. Adds to her nat sec resume if she wants to run in ’16. Breaks a glass ceiling.
And if Clinton accepts the Pentagon post, quiets ridiculous conservative-opinion driven storyline of Hillary challenging Obama in ’12.
Admittedly this seems a far more likely scenario than the others that have been bandied around. One thing that is clear: this country is far from being done with the Clintons.
