Lee Atwater was very explicit in describing the use of “code words” to veil Republican racism in selling the Southern Strategy. Forced busing, states’ rights, cutting taxes, that all got very abstract, but the meaning and the motive behind it hadn’t changed. This year it is “socialism” as if these ignorant Republican pigs even have a clue about how the economic system of socialism differs from capitalism. Rightwingers, smacked upside the head with the ugly truth, still play the “I’m so ignorant” card. Laughable.

I laugh whenever I hear the discussion turning to ‘code words.’ Journalists know–or should know–the difference between ‘infer’ and ‘imply.’ And when someone attaches ‘code words’ to a phrase, they are declaring that they somehow ‘know’ what the person really meant to say. That’s ‘inferring.’ It’s a laughable exercise used by Liberals to point the finger at other people with whom they disagree. It’s no different than me saying that Obama’s ‘Hope & Change’ are really code words for him turning America into a communist country. But that would be me ‘inferring’ that; not Obama ‘implying’ it. Yet Liberals, smacked upside the head with this easy take-down of their little ‘code words’ ploy, still play the silly game. Laughable.

It is somewhat remarkable, what a difference an election makes.

I mean, less than a year ago, we were told to support the President in a time of war and there were terrorists under every rock to now, when the President is being accused of plotting against the country and we have folks like Glenn Beck asking about unseen or unreported threats.
