Glenn Beck is clearly a hate monger and a liar and all the attempts of his loyal fans to ignore, rationalize or deny that are further proof of their own flights of fantasy.

Beck clearly attacked all churches with his comments that we should run from Churches that talk about social welfare. Another blogger here has tried to soften that by saying that Christ talked of private giving and not government mandated and that was what Beck meant. Bullshit!! That is not what he said but even if that was what he meant to suggest that Church groups that fight for tougher laws against forced teen aged prostitution as happened here in RI is really Communism and Nazism is insane!

Churches often fight for laws against abortion. Social welfare for the unborn. But that is Socialism and Nazism too.. according to Beck. And I guess attempts to clean the air and water and fund food stamps and provide decent housing things that only Nazis and Communists support.

Beck just preys on the ignorant and hateful and feeds all their hate and insecurities with his racist and ignorant rants. His followers are just like him and that is why it is futile to even try to reason with them.

Stuart understands their psychosis and they hate it when he holds a mirror for them to see.

I haven't had the chance to watch it, I'll maybe watch it when I get home from work.

Truth be told, I don't really care. People like Jon Stewart are cowards, so it's hard for me to care. His fans say that he's actually smart because he punked Tucker Carlson a few years ago. He clearly caught Carlson off guard because these shows book archetypes rather than individuals and expect certain responses -- so it's not Stewart's fault. But besides that, all Stewart ever does whenever he goes on a show for an interview is push some progressive talking point, have that talking point thoroughly debunked, and then he just responds with some weak humor and acts as if he's scored points. Like I said, that's not intelligence, that's cowardice.

But enough of that rant. The Daily Show just isn't funny. The graphics are hilarious, it's sad that they're wasted on this show. Stewart's writers are sometimes funny (Stewart's standup sucks, so don't kid yourself into thinking he's coming up with that stuff himself). And with the exception of John Oliver, the "correspondents" are just plain weird.

Jon hit this one out of the park.On the money, off the wall, hilarious. He is the most astute and certainly the most entertaining critic of the system, especially the media that we have.He did the same thing to Keith Olberman that he did here with Beck-even got Keith to admit on his own show that he's been going too far lately.

Among all the virtuoso comedic abilities on display he summed Beck up perfectly in five words-"Strawman,slippery slope dumb guy".Bravo

"There was also the trademark odd and faux-improvised moments, the sneaker with suit look and the signature walk around the studio and emotional pauses that make The Glenn Beck Show so watchable."

The Beck shoe is watchable? Certainly for three million South Florida Republican retirees in white tennis shoes.

Thanks for that "realitycheck", marcus. :-)

fido,
The current healthcare reform bill is only a shell of what is really necessary, but it certainly will not cause a greater number of people to die for lack of healthcare, since under the bill far more people will have a path to affordable care. And according to the budget office, it will decrease costs.

It sounds to me like an major incentive to get a better job.

Look the one upmanship is clouding the issue here. Does insurance need to be fixed? Yes the way they do
things is abominable. Does THIS healthcare bill fix the problems? No. Everything I've read doesn't even get us started on the path to fix it or opens some very scary doors> Was this bill bipartison? oh hell no. They
were never given a chance.

If they screw this up a lot of people are going to be hurt and may die, a lot more than '50k a year'.

We could quote the Founding Fathers ad infinitum, or we could look critically at our own situation and realize that the world of today bears little resemblance to the world of yesterday, and that neither are a Golden Age. The only path to a better world stretches forwards in front of us.

Glenn Beck preys on the politic ignorance of a vast amount of Americans to make a quick buck, while pushing his equally ignorant agenda. One of my favorite party in John Stewart's parody is the portion about Glenn's religious biases and how he is essentially in favor of a theocratic movement rather them socialist one. And one of the most humorous things Beck pushes is an anti-Progressive movement. It seems very strange that he is against a movement that by the definition of progress is trying "to develop in a positive way". I have nothing against conservatives or have any strong bias against their agenda besides logic, but I believe that Glenn Beck is a ignorant changeling and his ideals are outdated and destructive of the ideals of our founding fathers, which he says he is trying to protect. Glenn believes we should be a Christian nation, but one of the only reasons America even exists is for religious freedom. If your the only one who's saying it, your probably crazy.

@realitycheck

Well it would be easy to say you don't think he is portraying you that way, but if I were to say that Conservatives are gay bashing, racist, theocracy loving, war mongering republicans I certainly would hope that those on the Right would say hold up--that's not fair. It isn't fair, and I don't say that. Beck has made those assertions and FNC has picked up the memes to question Obama's birth place, by setting up the slippery slope that Obama is heading towards socialism, and so many other ridiculous arguments. Beck is in fact attempting to say that progressives are what is wrong with this country, and that's not true. Democracy needs to have people of all political persuasions to come together and make life better.

Regarding your health care system

One half of one percent of Canadians responding to a survey stated that they received health care in the US at any point in the previous year. Of those, one quarter actually traveled explicitly to the US for health care and most were already here on business or vacation. We are in no way adopting the Canadian model, that is ridiculous. The whole plan is to allow more people the ability to access preventive health care to reduce the amount of money that the emergency life threatening visits cost. The amount of people not covered in the US is greater than the population of Canada for goodness sakes. You want to talk about rationing? These people just wish they could have any type of health care rations. Those who are unfortunate enough to become ill and have no insurance are most definitely going to have to declare bankruptcy--and even those with insurance still face possible bankruptcies. This bill isn't nationalizing private doctors and hospitals--it is curbing the abuses of insurance companies, eliminating waste and fraud, protecting consumers, and setting up an exchange for millions of people to be able to buy into group coverage rather than have to struggle to find an insurance plan just for an individual.

Health care is one of the most profitable industries in this country, and its also one of the most wasteful. Reducing waste was one of my tasks when working for a state medicaid office. Over the course of one year, I identified over 300 million dollars in the allocation of funds to providers that was never approved as it was not covered, not medically necessary, or there was a cheaper alternative that is just as effective for the consumer!

Also as towards your complaint that "hospitals have patients lining the halls, and wait list for MRI" that's not unique. Unfortunately here the majority of the patients lining the halls are indigent patients who will never be able to pay their bill for that MRI. Hell I had a supposedly very good health insurance plan and they sent me the bill for 10k worth of medical costs and only covered 500 dollars to cover part of a $1750 ambulance ride. You are rightfully concerned about finding a Family Doctor...there are some in the States who have no idea what a Family Doctor is and thinks that Doctors are just the people who you see in the ER when you get sick.

I'm sorry but if that's what you think is acceptable, then I'm dumbfounded.

Oh yeah, one more thing. many Conservatives already do take interest in other peoples lifestyle choices. Gays can't get married. Pot is bad. Abortions are evil.

It isn’t fair, and I don’t say that. Beck has made those assertions and FNC has picked up the memes to question Obama’s birth place, by setting up the slippery slope that Obama is heading towards socialism, and so many other ridiculous arguments. Beck is in fact attempting to say that progressives are what is wrong with this country, and that’s not true.

Those who are unfortunate enough to become ill and have no insurance are most definitely going to have to declare bankruptcy–and even those with insurance still face possible bankruptcies. This bill isn’t nationalizing private doctors and hospitals–it is curbing the abuses of insurance companies, eliminating waste and fraud, protecting consumers, and setting up an exchange for millions of people to be able to buy into group coverage rather than have to struggle to find an insurance plan just for an individual.

Also as towards your complaint that “hospitals have patients lining the halls, and wait list for MRI” that’s not unique. You are rightfully concerned about finding a Family Doctor…there are some in the States who have no idea what a Family Doctor is and thinks that Doctors are just the people who you see in the ER when you get sick.

I’m sorry but if that’s what you think is acceptable, then I’m dumbfounded.

Oh yeah, one more thing. many Conservatives already do take interest in other peoples lifestyle choices. Gays can’t get married. Pot is bad. Abortions are evil.

I am not convinced that he is portraying the mass majority or Progressives "as a Maoist, Communist, Nazi sympathizer and I am wanting the complete overtaking of private business by the US Government" But rather I think what he is saying is that the leadership is but under the guise of Equality for all, social Justice, economic Justice and all around radical Agenda's. On he surface they seem like honorable idea's but I think when you pull back the curtain, someone looses. I Live in Canada and I see the results of what is best for the entire Country rather than the individual. When I watch Glenn Beck Talk All I see is one person fighting for your individual rights. And I am not sure when doing that made someone a horrible person. The rest of the world wants to be American for that reason.

@ valkyrie101
If 50K People Dies a year here That would be insane since we only have 30Mil Population. Our Taxes are High, We pay 40% and that is Federal & Provincial Taxes combined. Our Family is under $100 K/year and that does not include Provincial Sales Tax, Nat Sales Tax, on EVERYTHING and not including property Taxes. I can't find a Family Doctor and I live in Vancouver BC, The hospitals have patients lining the halls, and wait list for MRI's and all tests. Our Hospitals Ration( did you hear me RATION!!)Life saving operations. Our Prime Ministers & Premiers Go to the States for Health Care on "Vacation". People here are dying from lack of care.
But here is what is crazy, Canada is not an innovator of anything healthcare, we are only supplying funds for care, not research. You can hate your Healthcare system, but Hello you guys invent things that save lives!!!
All of a sudden you are going to find that people are going to take and interest in your lifestyle choices, because they are paying for them...
I feel almost sorry for you guys, we never thought you would take steps to become like us, just like Obama say's it doesn't happen overnight, it takes a while to transform!!!

fido,
Well, if someone works 60 hours per week at the Mobile Station, he earns about two thousand dollars a month without insurance. Think he can afford insurance, and otherwise live? So what is supposed to do. Not to mention the ten percent of the population out of work..

Well I appreciate the heart behind your sentiment about the elderly, now just expand that to include the children and grandchildren of those elderly, who they love more than their own lives, and you will have the whole sentiment.

Beck’s point is that the social justice Christ talked about (he never actually used those words, by the way) came from individuals and a necessitated a change in the human heart, not from the coercive force of government imposed by legislation.

So government's should not have to adhere to the same morals and standards as individuals? That's really warped logic.

You have not heard him say that, finch. So as for making stuff up, I would self reflect if I were you. If you think that Beck is not motivated by his last days scenario beliefs, then don't listen to Beck when he advises you to store up food in your basement, accumulate lots of guns and ammo, and have plenty of "last days seeds" on hand for the great collapse.

Stewart is not a pundit, he is a comedian, and his act was a parody, on a Comedy channel no less. Thus, the Beck mannerisms, and style is what he was focusing on. Though he did make fun a few times of Beck's fixation with the notion that government regulations are inherently fascist, which presumably includes the basic anti-polution regulations that Stewart focused on. And where he was going with the religious theocracy thing relates to the fact that Beck believes that these are the last days, and that the government is going to collapse as a preamble to the "chosen" people (presumably Mormons), taking over the government as a religious theocracy.

Not a fan of Glenn Beck and I actually watch the Daily Show, however, Stewart's parody of Beck didn't impress me much. Why can't he take Beck's actual points and rebut them. All he does he mention Beck's points (and in a very very short clip... with no context at all), and makes fun of them. Instead of actually trying to say that they're wrong and explaining why, simply mocks Beck and tries to do the "well Beck said this, and by using Beck's logic you can say this utterly hilarious and dumb thing too" while never noting that Beck never actually said those things and.... I could go on and on... sigh.

It's just frustrating when both sides are acting like idiots.

>why not be honest and just also say repeal Medicare.

Because deep down inside, conservatives actually love socialistic programs. Remember Joe the Plumber? He loved unemployment insurance when he was unemployed. Same thing with Rush Limbaugh (that's how he got large as a pig in the first place…unemployed, eating junk food all day).

Karl, here is a Thomas Jefferson quote: "Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear." -Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787.

Fido, here is what you said: "The theory behind these are you are getting something back for paying into it. Medicare? You pay taxes to have it later. Military? You pay taxes to pay for them to protect you. IF you do not want your money to go to the military well actually maybe you should have it go elsewhere. Might even be a good idea to explore but if you do, don’t expect the military to pull you out of trouble. As for emergencies like Katrina? If I was involved in an catastrophy it would help me also. If I was going to be forced to pay for others without my consent it smacks of extortion.. which is theft."

What you say makes no sense. As for Medicare, nobody pays even a fraction of what it costs. So no matter what you say, that is charity from the government. Of course that is why many if not most conservative idealogues objected to Medicare when it was being debated in the early sixties. At that time, Reagan, before he held any elected office, did a record on behalf of the AMA (which was against Medicare), in which he called it "socialism". So if you are going to object to the rationale behind health care reform, why not be honest and just also say repeal Medicare.

As for what you said about the military, yes, the old, "if you do not like it, leave" argument. But that does not address the issue at all. The point is, there are many things that the government pays for which people, even vast numbers of people, object to on moral or idealogical grounds. That is how it works. No government can please all of the people all of the time. But if the government spends money that it raises from everyone's taxes, that does not constitute "stealing" or "extortion". There is no distinction between helping people who are in a crisis via natural catastrophe, and helping people who are sick and need care.

And I previously said this, but I will repeat it: If terrorists were blowing up a 50K person city every year I have no doubt that you would scream for the government run military, paid for by our taxes, to do something about it. Well, you seem to be numb to the reality that every year, something like 50K or so people die because the cost of health care and insurance has gotten out of hand, and vast numbers of people can not afford to pay, thus, they suffer long illness before dying. There is no difference at all between paying for a military to keep us safe, and fixing our medical care system to keep us ALL safe.

Might even be a good idea to explore but if you do, don’t expect the military to pull you out of trouble. As for emergencies like Katrina? If I was involved in an catastrophy it would help me also. If I was going to be forced to pay for others without my consent it smacks of extortion.. which is theft.”

What you say makes no sense. As for Medicare, nobody pays even a fraction of what it costs. So no matter what you say, that is charity from the government. Of course that is why many if not most conservative idealogues objected to Medicare when it was being debated in the early sixties. At that time, Reagan, before he held any elected office, did a record on behalf of the AMA (which was against Medicare), in which he called it “socialism”. So if you are going to object to the rationale behind health care reform, why not be honest and just also say repeal Medicare.

As for what you said about the military, yes, the old, “if you do not like it, leave” argument. But that does not address the issue at all. The point is, there are many things that the government pays for which people, even vast numbers of people, object to on moral or idealogical grounds. That is how it works. No government can please all of the people all of the time. But if the government spends money that it raises from everyone’s taxes, that does not constitute “stealing” or “extortion”.
