Like Rachel Maddow, Howard Stern Is Also Duped By ChristWire’s Satire

If the name ChristWire sounds familiar, it may because you recall that MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was duped by the satirical site a couple of weeks ago, echoing a story it ran about a “North American attack on North Africa” on her show.

Well, now it appears that Howard Stern – radio host and media personality who wears the other half of Piers Morgan‘s broken heart friendship necklace – has been tricked by a ChristWire story as well.

The site, for those who aren’t familiar, offers overblown, hyperbolic satirical pieces about less than savory media figures, written from the point of view of “concerned Christians.” (In other words, if Church Lady had a blog, it would look an awful lot like ChristWire.)

The Atlantic Wire reports on Stern’s confusion during his show today:

“This is for real,” grimaced Stern. “This is from ChristWire.”

He then proceeds to slowly read a blog post accusing him of spreading profane pictures on Twitter including “naked lesbian women” and “drunken gay midgets.”

Now, if it had been a story about drunk naked lesbian midgets, it would have been much, much more believable.

Listen to audio of Stern’s show for yourselves, uploaded by the folks at ChristWire, but – be warned – the language is NSFW.

Alex was very busy doing google searches on the brilliant Rachel Maddow today, weren’t you Alex? A story about a throwaway line she spoke back in DECEMBER on Letterman, and now this Christwire piffle, well, when you’re Alex, yea, I guess there was nothing else to do on this slow news day…Jeeze I WANT to come to Mediaite and I even _like_ to read light stories on the media, especially after an earthshaking day such as this one , but could you shoot for CURRENT, or aim for slightly pertinent at least?

She’s mentioned on the ChristWire post because she happened to fall for a story on the same site, and I reported on the PolitiFact story today because they published their findings last night.

Your theories are super interesting though.

If anyone might die of stupidity, Stern probably would.

Alex, did you give corplin a thumbs down?

Nope! My reply said all I felt needed saying – no need to give out a thumbs down.

So….corplin is doing exactly what many on the left have adopted as a tactic.

Don’t like the message? Go after the messenger. That attack of the author of this column was absolutely pointless. A “throw away line”?

That “throw away line’ was an accusation on many levels from racism to incomptetence and needed to be called out. That statement was made in a very large public venue and was made without challenge. Maddow is a news figure. So…how is that idiotic, baseless accusation from a public figure “not current”.

Corplin’s argument is the usual leftist approach: go after the messenger.

    Shallow and transparent.

HARRY F–don’t be a namecaller– actually you DO have a point I ADMIT it– I probably was too reactionary, I see it–and I guess that’s what happens to us all now, almost impossible to see things as just Americans, it’s ALL right v. left and vice versa–sad isn’t it?

It was the Letterman ref that bothered me- the two stories on Maddow in quick sucession- but I admit to prob being too reactionary, I JUST would love to see some stories which actually come into focus through the AMERICAN lense -tired of the right left prism, IT is so worn out -(as am I with it;) remember the “fellow Americans” cliche? wish they’d bring that one back.
