Over the weekend, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) made a surprise visit to Syria, meeting with the country’s rebel leaders. While he was away, his colleague and fellow Republican senator, Lindsey Graham, took to Twitter to call “dibs” on McCain’s office… should he not make it back.
The senator joked:
Fortunately, McCain — who believes we “should’ve intervened” in the country’s conflict “long ago” — safely departed the country.
The trip made the senator the highest-ranking U.S. official to enter the country since the fighting and turmoil broke around two years ago. It was kept under wraps due to security concerns and organized by Syrian Emergency Task Force, an American non-profit.
