Every year, Baba Wawa selects the obvious newsmakers and emerging stars, some who are on the fringe of significance, and at least one that makes me say, "Who is this person and why do YOU think s/he's fascinating?"

Last year, the one on the fringe was the so-called "Pregnant Man." This year, the Jackson kids are on the fringe. The one who is thoroughly un-fascinating is Jenny Sanford. I don't for a second remember caring what she thought, and to my memory, she didn't bother to share it with us.

OTOH, if Mark Sanford's mistress was selected, she would have made it onto the fringe. You have to wonder what a woman half a world away has cooking for a rising political star to sacrifice possibly being a Presidential contender to be with her. In a way, she is sort of a minor-league Wallis Simpson. I would tune in to find out more about her.

I suppose the reason why Walters selected her is because of the success of the CBS show The Good Wife, which was not modeled on Mrs. Sanford, but closely resembles her situation. But so do many other "good wives," and I don't make an effort to delve into their minds. Maybe it's a "she thing."
