Michael Moore Goes The Full Wingnut On President Obama Over Occupy ‘Crackdown’

However, this is just the culmination of a series of unhinged anti-Obama attacks by Moore. In March, he blasted the President’s Libya policy, which resulted in the ouster and killing of terrorist dictator Muammar Gaddafi, with a ferocity that would have made Gaddafi’s captors quiver. He excoriated the President over the killing of Osama bin Laden, calling it an “execution” despite a complete lack of evidence for that claim.

Perhaps most tellingly, though, Moore appeared on The View in September to express his “disappointment” with President Obama by saying, “Bill Maher had a good answer when he said that Obama was half white and half black. He said I went to the polls and I voted for the black guy and what we got was the white guy.”

Others have noted the condescending, almost paternalistic tone Moore has taken with the President, which is evident in his Tuesday night “Luv ya” tweet, and he has adopted the rankling habit of many white liberals to call the President simply “Obama,” rather than “President Obama.”

There’s also the stark difference in the way Moore reacts to being confronted about his alleged wealth. When Piers Morgan asked him about it, he denied being part of the 1%, but he was civil. When a white conservative heckled him about it, he ignored the man. However, when CBS-4 Denver reporter Evrod Cassimy (who is black) pressed him on the subject, Moore grabbed him by the shoulder and shook him, called him “punk,” and growled, “You lie!”

By themselves, these things are irksome, but hard to pin down. A blogger at AngryBlackLady.com, though, notes Moore’s curious obsession with “the white vote” in a talk he gave earlier this month. He told the crowd, “The only reason Obama won was because of 18 to 29 year olds,” and went on to explain that this was the only age group in which a majority of whites voted for Barack Obama. He went on to blame the President for the 2010 midterm debacle (despite the fact that most Democrats were running away from President Obama and his policy achievements), and by the time he says, “we elected him to start cleaning up the mess,” it’s pretty clear who he means.

I think Melissa Harris-Perry hit the nail on the head a few months ago, when she said that white liberals hold President Obama to a higher standard than white presidents, the old Jackie Robinson syndrome. It’s time that Michael Moore, and some of the others who are disillusioned with President Obama, think about what role his race plays in the ways in which they criticize him.
