Rupert Murdoch Tweets About Santorum: ‘Win Michigan Game Over’

Rupert Murdoch tweeted his approval of Republican hopeful Rick Santorum and his views on Monday, saying “From distance, Santorum doing great. Values really do count in America, and not sneered at as in parts of Europe. Win Michigan game over.”

Any doubts about a Fox/Santorum alliance should now be dispelled

  • WiddleBabyDanielson

He’s no dummy.  Santorum wins nomination, Obama wins Presidency, FOX gets to bash Obama for 4 more years.

  • Anonymous

     lmao good point.

  • Anonymous

Do you know that you’re not supposed to type numbers less than double digit? Your statement should read “Fox gets to bash Obama for four more years.”

    Glad to help.

0ICU812. Tastes great huh? We are not in school, so give WBD a break.

  • Anonymous

Santorum’s values get sneered at because they’re bigoted and horrendously outdated. No wonder Rupert Murdoch has given them his personal seal of approval.

  • Anonymous

I would if WBD wouldn’t use the intelligence angle against other people.

  • Centrist79

I said the same thing this morning, I hope my phone wasn’t tapped.

  • Anonymous

I’m not sneering at his values.
Anyone who sneers at anyone shouldn’t procreate anyways.

Rupert Murdoch news flash Mitt Romney will not only win Michigan but will be the next POTUS.

And how do I know you might very well wonder; it is a futuristic thing, which you will never quite understand, since you live so much in the past these days and you may not even be here to witness this event.

I’m guessing Tucker Carlson will be all over this one?

Depends on what style book you’re using, dear ….

  • The Real Royal Emperor

I don’t know, Rupert. Values do seem to matter in Europe. There certainly seems to be a great deal of concern about shoddy journalism, tapped telephones and police bribes in the UK, and no one seems to be looking much forward to the new Sunday Sun. Maybe, America is suffering from a values shortage.

Owner of the world’s trashiest tabloids and the GOP propaganda machine, Fox News, knows something about values? Funny

There is ZERO chance Santorum can win over any Democrats or a majority of Independents, and if he’s the nominee, he’ll hand the White House to Obama on a silver platter (and, btw, I am NOT a fan of the President’s handiwork and would like to see a new occupant).

I’m not a fan of Romney either, but it doesn’t take a genius to see that what hurts him in the GOP primaries (being more of a moderate) is what helps him in the general election.  If he adds someone like Nikki Haley, or Marco Rubio, or Allen West as VP (i.e. a non-white male with conservative bona fides), Romney will be unstoppable.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

No. No. No. No. It’s not the state in which you live, it’s the state in which you were born. Which puts Newton Leroy in a very difficult place, doesn’t it? Well, he’s not terribly relevant at the moment anyway.

I think you’re giving Murdoch too much credit for micro-managing. He’s now a very … very … very old man, at least a half decade beyond being able to bring to his business interests the energy & discipline that used to characterize his enterprises. It’s a huge contributing factor to why NewsInternational is in so much trouble in the U.K. in particular.

For example, take FNC (please). Other than initial financing & licensing applications, FNC has been left almost entirely to Roger Ailes, right from the start. Ailes came up with the basic idea of FNC on his own way back in the Nixon era when he served in the White House communications office, & over the years after, as Murdoch’s empire grew & as NewsCorp acquired more & more properties in the U.S. (Remember: Murdoch started in Aus, then went  to the U.K. and was dominant in both those markets before he even started in the U.S.), Ailes became the Murdoch version of Our Man in America, & that relationship allowed Ailes room to convince Murdoch to put together an investor group to found FNC & have the Fox franchise pursue & maintain the necessary licenses from the FCC.

NewsCorp / NewsInternational is an absolutel massive conglomerate, mostly but not close to absolutely restricted to media, of almost SEVEN HUNDRED separate enterprises SO FAR. – and many of those separate enterprises are similar to FNC, in the sense of acting as umbrella organizations, housing a number of semi-autonomous like-minded enterprises & franchises under it (O’Reilly, Hannitty, etc.).

One of the reasons Rupert Murdoch has been so successful is that he was essentially born & bred into mass media, & right from when he took over from his father, he’s been able to convey his demands & standards to news producers with an absolute minimum of words, relying on like-minded media types like Ailes, & cronies picked up over the years, being able to point to models of what he sees as successful examples of what he’s after, & otherwise through his various cronies, acolytes & minions already familiar with or brought up in his empire. But that rare genius he has for large media empire expansion & control (much of which is a product of just being BIG), shouldn’t be confused with supposing that he’s at all a good or moral or knowledgeable or even well informed person generally. He’s not: he’s not so much conservative as he is a manipulative self-serving reactionary who loves being able to throw his weight around in circles filled with people he despises as even more shallow than he is – that is: politics & politicians.

But he’s very – very – very old now, so when one sees a tweet like this, one sees little more than the reflexive reaction of the atrophied muscles of a former athlete: he sees the chance to stir up the bottom feeders, to run at the pigeons, i.e. to muck things up. He loves a good cackle, & fancies himself quite the genius for being able to cause problems for the powerful while getting away with it. In short, he’s just what you expect from a 85 year old billionaire trouble-making megalomanic troublemaker – meddling for pretty much no other reason than being able to meddle.

In general, that is the correct grammar rule. However, for periods of time, the correct usage is to use figures, i.e., years, days, etc. Therefore, the original statement is grammatically correct. See the Gregg Reference Manual by William A. Sabin.

Don’t be so sure about the Presidency.  All it needs is enough propaganda that Iran is threatening America and Israel and Obama is doing nothing to stop it.  He needs to be stopped now.

  • Hout Bosques

I for 1 [sic] do not sneer at Santorum for being out-dated; being old-fashioned can be quaintly attractive or comforting, as with RoPaul or Pat Buchanan, & in this vein the sweater vests are a strong but ambivalent meme. But those vests to do not I.D. [sic] him as a retro-nerd, since he’s the opposite: an anti-science retro-twerp, of the sort that gives Luddites a bad name, & of the sort that Robert Bolt recast Sir Thomas More to avoid).

I don’t sneer at Santorum – at all. To the contrary – I take his bigotry seriously. He’s anti-Blah people; he’s legislatively unprincipled; he has pretty much the same view of women that wingers accuse Islam of having; & he wants to repeal of separation of church – his personally-approved version of church, being northwest European post Neandertal Catholic as re-formed by Jean Chauvin (a.k.a. Calvinism, akin to the American variation of Puritanism that led to burning women as witches & forcing them to wear scarlet “A”s) & state.

People like this are mostly harmless – unless officially empowered, whereupon they tend to do in office exactly what they said they’d do in office when they were out of office.

At this point, I’m tempted to affirm Godwin’s Law, but since that tends to blunt the message, so I’ll stick to Made in America with Sinclair Lewis: “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.”

  • Hout Bosques

As you indeed may not be. The odds against you ever existing in the first place were staggeringly against, & they’re far from absolute about you being around even next week let alone in November.

The reason people can’t see into the future is because there’s no light. We can look up at night & see the past in the form of photons emitted by stars & clusters & galaxies so far away, it took those photons years, even billions of them, to get from there to here. But the future emits no light, any more than the present, since light takes time to travel over space, & neither time nor space reaches into the future; indeed, both just now arrived in the present.

Write out numbers that require no more than two words, remembering that a hyphenated number between twenty-one and ninety-nine
counts as one word. Some writing manuals will suggest that whole
numbers from zero through nine should be written as words, and numbers
from ten on up should be written as numerals, especially when the word
modifies a noun as in five students or two professors. Use numerals, however, when the number modifies a unit of measure,
time, proportion, etc.: 2 inches, 5-minute delay, 65 mph, 23 years old,
    page 23, 2 percent.

Mr. Pork Chops, you forgot to add that not only did the “News of the World” get charged with phone hacking, but the other Murdoch newspaper, The Sun, is being investigated for phone hacking, bribing the police, and computer hacking.  Ten high level officials have been arrested so far at the Sun.   It feel as if the walls must be caving in at News Corp.,and particularly the walls in James and Rupert Murdoch’s offices.  James Murdoch who has been claiming he was not aware of what was going on inside of his newspapers is also looking more and more like he’s been lying the whole time during his testimony as more and more e-mail addressed to him have been showing up.  The Murdoch’s also have to be concerned with US laws on bribing of foreign officials.  Then there’s Media Matters who has been documenting their lies at FOX News in the US.  They must be feeling miserable, I feel sooo sorrrrry for them.

A general rule of thumb? In other words, not a rule at all.

  • Anonymous

I wasn’t aware we were following AP style rules, WC. You see, for this sort of punctuation issue, there actually isn’t a correct or incorrect thing to do. There are only style guidelines that publications and schools adopt at will. Another big secret is that most people don’t actually care about these extremely minor things because they tell us nothing about the person they’re directed against and only let us know that the person pointing them out is pretentious.

    Glad to help.

  • Anonymous

Where is this general rule of thumb? Written in the heavens? Etched into a mountainside somewhere? Or did your 2nd grade teacher tell you something you expect everyone else to follow? There are no rules but the rules you adopt, aka style guidelines.

He’s absolutely right. If Romney can’t win in Michigan he’s done. I mean there are buildings named after the Romney clan in Michigan.

@facebook-100000553990876:disqus who cares? I’m not the grammar police.

  • Чёрт Возьми

I think the average Michigander (unofficial nickname) does not see Romney as a “native son.”  His father, George Romney (who never got a college degree), was successful as head of American Motors (now defunct) and a successful and respected governor of the state, but times were good everywhere back then and especially good in Michigan.

But the son, Mitt, left Michigan after high school and for all practical purposes never went back. He got his advanced education in other states, did his business in other states, and worst of all, wrote an op-ed saying the auto industry should have been allowed to fail. I can tell you from experience that there is not one single person in Michigan who is not directly or indirectly connected with that auto industry. Labor won’t like him because he doesn’t know what labor is, and management won’t like him because he would just as soon fire them all for “letting the auto industry fail.”

  • Чёрт Возьми

I though Fox supported Romney, along with the “Republican establishment.”

What an imbecilic comment; you sound as if Fox relies on an Obama presidency to be on top of its rivals.

Fox News has been number 1 since Bill Clinton presidency, and they have beaten their closest rivals even when combined, irrespective of who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Maybe you should get this into your head.

  • Hout Bosques

“it doesn’t take a genius to see that what hurts him in the GOP primaries (being more of a moderate) is what helps him in the general”
I could not agree more, that it doesn’t take a genius to see that: all it takes is a self-deluded winger. But believe it or not, there are also non-winger voters, made up of at least as many Dems & Dem-leaners, plus independents, & exactly none of them see what you’re seeing. They see now, or will see, Nikki Haley as the governor whose approval levels in her own state went more quickly down & down deeper than even Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, and that she’s a conscientious serial liar. They see now, or will see, that Allen West who’s so disturbingly erratic that he’ll never get picked by Mittens, & then they’ll see West resoundingly defeated in the re-districted district he’s going to have to run in for Congress. They see now, or will see, that the ‘smart money’ Republicans are almost entirely sitting out this presidential election because they themselves have never believed the “any Republican can beat Obama” b.s., that Marco Rubio is in that group who sees things that way, & that Rubio will never be picked because he doesn’t want to be picked to run in a general election that will be known in future as the nastiest negative advertising election in history, & in the end entirely futile as Mittens goes down in his one & only ever nomination. But you don’t see any of that, because you only see what pleases your brain. That doesn’t take a genius; it only takes an easily manipulated dupe.

  • Hout Bosques

Fox supports ratings first & ratings last. They see an easy early win for Romney is bad for ratings. They see 4 years of joining in with the Birchers, which make up a critical part of the Fox base, in belly-aching about how the GOP ‘threw this opportunity away’ because the RNC wouldn’t nominate a “true conservative” as good for FNC’s ratings.

  • Чёрт Возьми

Following the ratings makes sense, but I still think Fox was for Romney when they thought he was a sure winner. Fox was probably as surprised by Santorum’s recent gains as I was.

‘Values’ Mr Murdoch?  You mean the phone-tapping, law-bending practices that Newscorp was involved in in the UK?  The same values that led to your ‘News Of The World’ newspaper to close down?  The same values being investigated by the Parliamentary Committee and Press Complaints Commission?  The same values that is seeing your empire crumbling in the UK?

    !!!!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExPxawBa2Ao&feature=youtu.be
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lglCDwifzio&feature=related
We could say that Whitney went from being dependent on a Illegal use of
drugs to being treated for this dependency only to become Dependent on the LEGAL
abusive use of chemical dependency on the Pharmaceutical Industries drugs used
in treatment it is worth debating if this kind of use of Capital tax code and
monetary policies are actually driving the expansion of Quality of Life or are
they just driving Drug use to Boost Profits rather than enough funding is being
done at the level of scientific research BEFORE a Drug is prescribed to a
Individual patient , as is talked about in this link , http://www.fredreichheld.com/bainweb/PDFs/cms/Public/rebuilding_big_pharma.pdf
, or is it being prescribed to drive Profits with a One size fits all Health
care policy like Obama and Romney seem to simulate in their state and federally
mandated health care Programs ??? The way healthcare is being cast as a
One size fits all study today by the Experts in the Field , are they creating
the path to organizing the healthcare Industry to become a treatment of mind
instead of body with a One Size Fits all approach that Obamacare’s authors like
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel wrote into the bill ?? And he recently wrote this about the
medical field being a flawed system if you want to continue on the path of
Individual health care , this flies in the face of the US Constitution’s
Individual Liberties provisions that give us a right to seek a Free choice of
Healthcare , a full contrast to what has made Medicine in the USA one of the
biggest accomplishments in world history !!! http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/science/2011/11/09/conference-future-personalized-medicine-kicks-off-with-challenge/FEaRVxvee9vQFmTmoMaSCM/story.html
