Report: NBC In Negotiations With Rosie O’Donnell For New Show

Gossip Cop is reporting that former View host Rosie O’Donnell is in negotiations with NBC regarding her new talk show, which is being aimed for the 2011 season. From GC:

Gossip Cop is told that Rosie O’Donnell is negotiating with NBC to have her new talk show aired on the Peacock network’s owned and operated stations.

The information comes from the same reliable source who told us exclusively in March that O’Donnell had signed a production deal for a new daytime program.

The show reportedly has some big names aboard, including documentary filmmaker Rory Kennedy, and TV veterans Dick Robertson and Scott Carlin. According to GC there is one kicker: “NBC wants an out if she implodes like she did on ‘The View.’” One might argue that was the fun part. See here for full story.

Great! I can’t wait to hear of it’s cancellation!

Oh good! That should raise the discourse.

    What could possibly go wrong?

  • paulmdoro

Ugh. Great. Hatred of Rosie unites the right and the left.

  • ice queen

Great idea from NBC to think ahead. If it goes on the air it will not be on my daily schedule.

  • Ination

Paul – you are spot on.

  • Liberty Banned

I think she’s very entertaining, although not very intelligent. I sure don’t watch her for analysis, just baboonery.

  • timzank

I’m not so sure ratings gold will be discovered with “Angry Delusional Lesbian” format. Could prove problematic to, oh, I don’t know, thinking people?

  • notsofast

I wonder if her first five shows will be on Building 7?

I look forward to her having that expert engineer, Charlie Sheen, on to discuss this.

It amazes me that in a country of hundreds of millions of people, supposedly with hundreds of thousands of them talented, that the dolts who run the networks continue to pick the same idiotic, stupid, dumb, absolutely useless people to be on the air.
Is there some club of what appears to be about 500 that all these idiots belong to? Why do we see the same old idiots over and over on this show, that show, another show? WTF?
There must be at least a hundred thousand people in America who would be better hosts for a TV show. This fat, biased, hateful pile of crap is back. Well, here is one more person who will never tune this show in…. just as I don’t tune in Joy Behar, Wanda Sykes, the View and all those hard left hate spewing crap shows.

There you have it…and we are such suckers that we do watch or at least recognize the same thing over and over again.

Turn it off or change the channel…or just ignore “it”. And that is for both sides of any political spectrum.

Are these the people you want to tell you how to think?

  • lazzzlo

Without an edit button…My point is that i simply think for myself.

  • smack

smart move for nbc. Rosie has a face for radio and a voice for print. vomit fest.

I’m glad you rise above the hate?

    Possible titles:

    “Train Wrecks with Rosie”

    “Biggest Gainer”

“Fat,Drunk and Stupid IS a Way to go Through Life,Son”

    “Bitch,Interrupted”

    “How To Kill a Network”

She is a ‘female” keith Olbermann

Iantion…. at least I was being factual about fat, biased and hateful (all you have to do is listen to some of her ranting for that one)…. I should not have used pile of crap… I agree…. should have use more factual info such as “left wing wacko” “liberal dolt” “talentless” in order to stick to factual statements.

If you’ve never worked in the entertainment industry (like I have), let me assure you — the so-called “suits” who make the core decisions about “who” gets a show or “what” project actually gets greenlit for production really ARE that stupid. I mean, I’m not saying that in a mean or bitter way. But until you’ve sat in a Hollywood production meeting…or even a pitch session…and ACTUALLY seen these people in operation, you truly cannot appreciate just how jaw-dropping stupid and bat sh*t insane most of these people are.

And, yes, it really is a club of only so many people, who are continually out to rub each others back or reward their friends. The crazy part is that it also cycles around. For example, ageism creeps in…at which point an entire tier of executives will get fired or perhaps they’ll retire to start their own production companies…and then a newer, younger crop of people take over. At which point THEY now feel that they “suffered” while coming up the ladder together, so the cycle begins anew as they scratch each others back and reward the friends THEY know.

The other problem Hollywood ALWAYS suffers from — especially when it comes to creativity — is they HATE to roll the dice (or in their terms, the money) on something new. Instead, they have the crazy, set-in-stone belief that if something worked once, it will work again. The only Hollywood cliche is that “you’re only as good as your last movie,” however the problem is too many execs and bean counters will look at someone like Rosie and NOT see her recent years of failures or her truly insane statements. Instead, they’ll simply say “Hey, there was a time when she was a hit and making a boatload of money. So maybe she can do it again!”

The joke being, of course, that when the “new” Rosie shows bombs spectacularly or she makes a complete fool of herself on TV yet again, these self-same people who greenlit her show will be pointing fingers, at which point there will also be the traditional Hollywood firing of the low guy on the totem pole, to save the high guy on the totem pole’s job.

  • notsofast

The only Hollywood cliche is that “you’re only as good as your last movie,”

Adam Sandler disproves that every 3 months.

No, she is the male KO.

  • Stewart D

    Agree with notsofast:

This garbage will not last. I hope NBC would remember Jeff Zucker and the insurmountable that damage he caused the network.

I would even venture to guess that Rosie has some kind of breakdown either during the show or when it is cancelled. She is unstable, and her show will sink- but not because of her weight…

  • Rogue-Comic

I would hope if she gets the show, it’ll shy away from political matters as Rosie has even recently commented on a call for socialism. That doesn’t do liberals or conservatives here and everywhere any good.

Also, the show should only feature her since she’s shown a tendency in the past for violence against co-hosts and contributors. Simply stated, it would be shock and awe if Barbara Walters ever appeared as a guest.

Snark aside, its simply dumb to put this person back on television. (Your) God (of choice) help whomever her audience is.

That’s for sure!! Couldn’t have said it better myself!!

  • dhg

If she is the female Olbermann that means she can be a complete utter jerk, have no qualifications for the program she hosts, use that program to regularly pursue those who she believes has “wronged” her in some way and be the personification of irrelevance…and yet still be on the air.

NBC is in bigger trouble than anybody thought.

Wow. Does that ever show you how bad things are at GE? Hilarious!! Rosie is an overweight Janeane Garofalo

    Kind of a Barofalo!!

  • writer

I thought she already had a show…Whale Wars.

  • Founders_were_Liberal

Yea Rosie, we need an anti-Palin woman who is the complete opposite of sister Sarah. I can hardly wait to hear her comment on the jackass, hypocritical, money-grubbing, white trash dog and pony show that is the Palin and her wack family.

  • writer

Yeah, right. There’s a shortage of people knocking Palin on TV. Haul this lard ass out to pile on.

  • jgdp

Well, well, a “speaking” turd…this is definitely must-see TV…considering the utter morass the TV “industry” has sunk to!!!

Another reason to not watch NBC.

@ LA screenwriter: Your commentary was interesting.
