Obama Puts White Sox Fandom Aside, Congratulates The Yankees
President Obama met with the New York Yankees today in the White House to commemorate their 2009 World Series title. The ceremony lasted roughly 20 minutes, and took place in the East Room.
Obama, a noted Chicago White Sox fan, joked that if his hometown team had famed Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, they “would have won more world titles.”
“Good to see you, big man.” He said to starting pitcher CC Sabathia. “I was watching that no-hitter.” Sabathia had a no-hitter broken up with two outs in the eighth inning on April 10th.
Obama congratulated the Yankees for their World Series win, singling out manager Joe Girardi, first baseman Mark Teixeira, shortstop Derek Jeter and catcher Jorge Posada.
Outfielder Nick Swisher tweeted, “What a blast! Gng 2 Walter Reed & mtng the President couldnt have been any cooler. What a day to be a Yankee. What an honor. Its nap time.”
