I actually thought the one who was swatted back the best and easiest was Mike Pence at the very beginning. His “boutique tax cuts” and several other partisan statements were more than easy for Obama to rebut. That set the stage for the whole rest of the meeting. Pence blew it.

Obama’s approvals are plummeting faster than ever recorded, there is a $14,000,000,000,000 debt, the Democrats have achieved nothing in the first year since their total ascent to power, no terrorist trials in NYC, the administration is exposed as mostly Maoist ideologues, a Republican win in Massachusetts… And we hear “One could hope conservatives will recognize their ideas don’t work.” JimR, you’re joking, of course.

I think he still held out hope of breaking through and making progress on the people’s business, but I hope he’ll use those other hypocrisy aces he held back today, if needed in the future, like Chris Matthews was saying.

This could have been far more brutal on Republicans, given their utter intellectually dishonest proposals where the prescription and cause for what ails America are one in the same; that they repeat ad nauseum regardless of the relation to the truth.

One could hope conservatives will recognize their ideas don’t work and will continue destroying us unless we radically change course, and therefore want to help America – I’m game.

And Fox Not News, the RNC propaganda outlet that it is, must have seen it coming – they interrupted it and tried to spin it bad. But it’s not selling that way – Politico, Daily Beast, all the news outlets except perhaps Fox Not News is spinning it negative for GOP. He keeps on this tack he’s going to beat them senseless around the neck and ears.

I’m certainly no fan of President Obama’s but I have to give him credit for what he did today. He spent more than an hour taking everything thrown his way. He could have just shown up and taken 4 or 5 questions and been gone in half an hour. He was a stand-up guy to give 66 minutes of his time. What remains to be seen is how much was just empty rhetoric and how much we’ll see put into practice.

I think it would be healthy for our democracy to have every president do a Q & A like this every month or every couple of months.
