Since the time between O's inauguration and the closing of the Nobel nominations was about 2 weeks, it's obvious that the Nobel committee regards accomplishment and tenure as unimportant. has adopted the 'all shall have prizes' regardlessstance, which would suggest that O be named MVP of both the National and American Leagues for throwing out the first pitch at the all-star game in July.. Nobel could have done that - for the people who supported Obama - for electing him, which was a sign of peace or something... But to award this to Obama, having accomplished nothing, is bad for Obama, bad for the Nobel Organization, bad for the past winners, and bad for those who didn't win this year. And as you pointed out, Obama is in the middle of his war in Afghanistan - and at this point, he hasn't even decided what to do about it - send in more troops, or pull out, which could cause a very un-peaceful outcome.
