Poll: Only 22% Of Americans View Sarah Palin Favorably

Nearly half the country does not like Sarah Palin, according to a new CBS poll. Something, they point out, could be a problem should she decide to run for president.

Palin is viewed favorably by just 22 percent of Americans, according to the poll – including less than half (44 percent) of Republicans. Twenty-one percent of independents and 6 percent of Democrats view her favorably.

Forty-eight percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of Palin. That includes 73 percent of Democrats, 44 percent of independents and 22 percent of Republicans.

Twenty-nine percent said they are undecided or not sure how they feel about Palin, including about one in three Republicans and independents.

Salon, meanwhile, notes that these sort of polarizing results are not that uncommon when it comes to female political candidate (cf. Hillary Clinton). That said, the part I find really interesting about this — since it is not news that Palin is, er, divisive — is how few people view her favorably…22% is not a lot.

So, yes, should the woman ever decide to run for President she will have a lot of national dislike to overcome. However, for a person who is merely looking to grab as much attention, and subsequently influence, as possible these numbers are terrific. Nothing sells better theses days than divisiveness, so on some level Palin can probably view these poll results as a measure of her success.

Looks like the “Whores” over at NOW did a pretty good job on Sarah!

I’m shocked that with all of the fawning media coverage Sarah’s gotten, her favorability isn’t at least 75%.

  • Big Eddie

Sarah has been denigrated constantly by most of the media for over two years now . There’s ” no poison more deadly than ink ” . Big Eddie has been to a Sarah event . People liked some of the other big names there , but they loved the straight talking Sarah . She might run for president and she might not , but she’ll be a force for a long time .

Another article about a woman who holds no office and is not running for office.
How about an article about the favorability rating of a woman who does hold office and is the 3rd most powerful person in the U.S.?

Just another reason to stop wasting my time here. The comment section I can handle, but the headlines and articles, or lack of, are laughable. The argument that “Mediaite only covers what the media is talking about” doesn’t flush. I wouldn’t know about Pelosi’s numbers if I hadn’t heard it from the MEDIA!

21Twenty-one percent of independents view favorably
6 percent of Democrats view her favorably.

Hmmm, I was never good at this new math… but it is to my understanding that the majority of independents will not be voting Democratic. Plus the fact, Republicans don’t want to encourage her to run, for fear of a better candidate could appear before an nomination…..

  • roxsteady

Yes, because the most important thing about a female candidate is whether you want to have sex with her which explains why her lack of competence and command of the English language has served this hoople well.

This so much bull crap I can almost smell it emanating from my laptop. CBS stands for Complete Bull S**t.

I think liberals and I include CBS live in a bizarro world where things are not only the opposite, but they are desperate. I know that all the polls of Republicans show that over 70% of Republicans like and are supportive of Sarah Palin. I also know that all the polls show that over 60% of Americans support the Tea Party. Over 80% of the Tea Party is highly supportive of Sarah Palin. Over 50% of Americans consider themselves right of center.

So explain to me how these jerks show this… “according to the poll – including less than half (44 percent) of Republicans”

This site becomes a spoof of itself when it carries a story about an obviously flawed, skewed and fraudulent poll by CBS. Want another recent example of how in the sewer CBS is… how about CBS coming out with an official number of people at the Glenn Beck Restore Rally as being 87,000…. have you forgotten that bit of CBS (Complete Bull S**t)?

It is disturbing, but the good news is that conservatives are a majority now and this election is just the beginning of a tremendous wave of conservatism that will gradually take over our government. Palin is a veritable gaffe machine. It’s one thing to demonstrate intelligence and ability and make the occasional misstep. It’s entirely another to demonstrate a lack of intelligence and ability and make misstep after misstep. Just like Carter thanks Bush for making him second worst president in history, Dan Quayle is grateful to Palin-wiht the obvious distinction – McCain/Palin lost.

Mike Huckabee was regarded by fellow Republican governors as a compulsive tax increaser and spender. He increased the Arkansas tax burden by 47 percent, boosting the levies on gasoline and cigarettes. The Arkansas Leader.com editorialized that Mike Huckabee raised more taxes in 10 years in office than Bill Clinton did in his 12 years.

The National Education Association endorses any candidate who raises taxes and opposes school choice – thus they endorsed Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee “broadly repudiates core Republican policies such as free trade, low taxes, the essential legitimacy of America’s corporate entities and the market system allocating wealth and opportunity,” according to George Will.

The Arkansas Ethics Commission held proceedings 20 times on the former governor. During his tenure, Huckabee accepted 314 gifts valued overall at more than $150,000, according to documents filed with the Arkansas secretary of state’s office. (He accepted 187 gifts in his first three years as governor but was not required to report their value.)

Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned rapist Wayne DuMond’s guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, DuMond murdered a women in Illinois after Huckabee set him free

Huckabee battled conservatives within his own party who were pushing for stricter state-level immigration measures, such as:.
    – proof of legal status when applying for state services that aren’t federally mandated
    - proof of citizenship when registering to vote
    - Huckabee failed in his effort to make children of illegal immigrants eligible for state-funded scholarships and in-state tuition to Arkansas colleges.

He joined the Democratic chorus in indicting President Bush for his “arrogant bunker mentality.” Is he in the right party?

Huck’s use of the “Christian Leader” title and the Cross in his ads and his attempt to denigrate Mitt Romney’s religion is a thinly-veiled attempt to impose a religious test in violation of Article Six of the Constitution

The Huckster was the keynote speaker at an anti-Mormon conference in Salt Lake City. And he knows nothing about Mormons? And the “Christian Leader” doesn’t want to release his sermons?

He led the Arkansas Baptists liberal congregations in a dispute with the conservative Southern Baptist Conference.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ry0xrOsqSQ

Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma WA man who killed four Lakewood WA police officers, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health. Clemmons believes Obama “is the Messiah”.

Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors
Huckabee fails on so many levels as a true conservative.

    The moniker “Huckster” is well-earned.

“Conservatives” destroyed our financial system. Look up Phil Gramm and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act and the Gramm Leach Bliley Act. Deregulating the financial services industry, along with some tricks crafted by Bush’s boy Hank Paulson, created a vast culture of corruption of Wall St., a whole new way to suck all the wealth out of the country and hide it in offshore tax shelters. This country had no booms and busts for 50 years between Roosevelt–who protected America from financial vultures–and Reagan, who created this 30-year decline in the middle class and rise in the gilded gentry. How can an economy survive when productivity climbs and wages stay flat while the top 1% riches quadruple their wealth? What passes for “conservative” ideology these days is a cancer that will kill its host if not stopped. As Warren Buffet plainly stated, there’s class warfare all right, but his class started it and is winning.

The fact that you “conservatives” are on the side of the billionaires who are gutting this country as we speak is a real testament to the power of propaganda, as accumulated by the Fox Corporation, Clear Channel and other “conservative” media owners.

Palin has to get any Presidential aspirations in 2012 out of her mind for the sake of conservatives. She just doesn’t have the respect or trust of the middle ground of voters and that is crucial to a win.

She needs to help the best candidate win in 2012 and then get a position in the administration that will show the doubters that she can get their respect and then she might be ready for a run down the road.

Right now voters do not want another inexperienced president. They have already got one and look at the disaster. Of course she has somewhat more experience than him but judging from her actions she is not experienced enough yet.

Palin has crowned herself “kingmaker” in numerous races around the country. Newt Gingrich holds no office, either, but still involves himself in electoral politics. It’s entirely appropriate for the media to cover non-elected persons who nevertheless have an impact on the electoral process.

ohsocrass: “But over 98% want to have sex with her and not YOU Glynnis!”

I’m sure Glynnis is pleased that you are among the impotent 2%.

    “Don’t go StandUp . . . ”

    Go, StandOaf, go!

But, seriously; anyone with a rational viewpoint should be welcomed here. Unfortunately, too many neocons here resort to knee-jerk condemnation of facts that they don’t like rather than giving us rational reasons to agree with them. StandUp would rather “bail” than exert the time and thought necessary to present a cogent argument.

“Why would Glynnis even bother with this nonsense?”

Palin is a nonsensical person. Even so, she is a presence on the national political scene – by her own choice – and deserves scrutiny.

“So they vastly oversampled Democrats and they also didn’t even bother using likely voters.”

Where does it say they ‘oversmapled’ Dems or didn’t poll likely voters? Even if they didn’t, Palin isn’t running for anything . . . yet.

“The Liberal Media have run out of women to demonize.”

A ridiculous statement. They raked Hillary Clinton over pretty good, “liberal” or not. Christine O’Donnell can’t seem to open her mouth without uttering something foolish. Should Palin be ignored because she happens to be a female idiot?

“I just hope our financial system is not destroyed before we can turn it around.”

If it does, you and your “conservative majority” can take the dubious credit for cheering on the banksters and Wall Street mobsters who caused its demise.

    “1,129 adults.

    130+ million voters.

    You do the math.”

1,000ish respondents is a typical baseline for this type of poll.

“{T]he only reason that you don’t like the CBS poll is it does not reveal what you would like it to reveal.”

Poll results that favor neocon sentiments are 100% accurate. All others are “liberal media bias.”

Progressive radio host Thom Hartmann (thomhartmann.com) points out that we don’t have a “liberal” media; we have a CORPORATE media. Huge corporations control most of the broadcast, cable and print media. Their conservative biases permeates most of it.

“So explain to me how these jerks show this… “according to the poll – including less than half (44 percent) of Republicans . . . ”

Perhaps you misunderstand. Among ALL Republicans, about 44% – less than half of all Republicans – approve of Palin.

Rachel Maddow reported recently that only 22% of Americans identify themselves as Republican, so that 44% represents only about 10% of all Americans. Her support among independents and Dems adds only fractionally to that figure.

“90% of all Americans claim they are really f&#@ing sick of these polls.”

Only the “90%” who can’t handle facts they don’t like. You are entirely and utterly wrong.

“When Obama says we have fifty-seven states, or pronounces corps as corpse, it’s merely a slip of the tongue. When Palin makes a gaffe, man, is she stupid! ”

True, Obama has made some goofs over the years, but Palin – and Dumbya – are walking malaprops. Everyone makes misstatements at one time or another, but the Palin/Bush brand of incessant verbal stumbles is a sign of either intellectual lassitude or just plain “iggnerance.”

“CBS is also views favorably by about 22%.”

Pointless petulance is “also views” favorably by 22%. Take a bow.

gordondimbulbsham: “Remember Glynnis is a joke when it comes to writing anything about Palin.”

Remember gordumb and his “show” are a joke – period

“Don’t take that 1 point from her!”

The one on the top of her head?

“Ted Kennedy went to Harvard, but he wasn’t smart enough to know that cars don’t float.”

    You do . . . just like similar, uh . . . organic waste.

“Sarah Palin is an empty headed but talented liar.”

Her questionable “talent” crashes when it attempts to sway thoughtful minds. Christine O’Donnell is “Palin on steroids” – a person who will say anything that sounds “right” at the moment, regardless of accuracy, truthfulness or consequence. Do we really want such a person in office? We’re ALREADY stuck with Michele Bachmann.

“Just think where her rating would be if she wasn’t protected by Fox News and had to do legitimate interviews with legitimate news organizations.”

She won’t because – like much of the extreme right – she is basically a coward. Focks News offers softball interviews and blatant fund-raising opportunities on their “news” shows to right-wingers who fear answering actual questions.

Rachel Maddow has practically begged Palin and the other cons to come on her show. To my knowledge, only Rand Paul and nutcase Art Robinson have had the intestinal fortitude to do so. Paul later said she’d been fair to him. Robinson is in a straitjacket and unavailable for comment.

Maddow also points out that cons like Palin and Scott Brown use her and MSNBC as “boogeymen” for fund-raising purposes while refusing to come on her show and face her directly – yet another indication of their cowardice.

“Would someone at Mediaite please cross-check the IP addresses of accounts you have banned with the current slate of commenters? Thank you.”

An excellent suggestion. I second the motion.

Jenigma: You’ve got some kinda nerve bringing FACTS to this discussion! How DARE you back up your opinions with links and cross-references! I suppose you think people should thank you for such efforts. I know I do.

“Talking with you is nothing to brag about, Ted.”

Listening to you babble is no treat, either.

“The National Education Association endorses any candidate who raises taxes”

    Citations/proof?

“Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned rapist Wayne DuMond’s guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, DuMond murdered a women in Illinois after Huckabee set him free ”

    Non-rapists kill people, too.

I’m no fan of Huckabee’s, but if the original verdict was indeed wrong he did the right thing. it could well be that wrongful imprisonment turned DuMond INTO a violent person.

“He joined the Democratic chorus in indicting President Bush for his “arrogant bunker mentality.” Is he in the right party?”

Yes. the Republicant Party desperately needs independent thinkers – having precious few, presently.

“Huck’s use of the “Christian Leader” title and the Cross in his ads and his attempt to denigrate Mitt Romney’s religion is a thinly-veiled attempt to impose a religious test in violation of Article Six of the Constitution”

I agree. Too bad the right doesn’t hold the rest of the Constitution in equally high regard.

“Maurice Clemmons, the 37-year-old Tacoma WA man who killed four Lakewood WA police officers, has a long criminal record punctuated by violence, erratic behavior and concerns about his mental health. Clemmons believes Obama “is the Messiah”.”

Crazy people kill, too. Is it somehow Obama’s fault that this nutjob killed cops? You yourself note his mental state. It’s not like Obama goes on TV every day scaring the crap out of people and warning them that the government is going to take their guns away – that’s Fox’s gig.

    “The moniker “Huckster” is well-earned.”

Indeed – but not always for the reasons you present.

“writer is a card carrying member of the klan.”

Maybe one of them should read it to him?

“Were you home-schooled by any chance or are you inhaling paint?”

    Lead-based, probably.

“You might want to tell Dingy Harry. When asked who the best living American’s are, he said Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd.”

    From: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/10/08/reid_greatest_living_americans_are_robert_byrd_and_ted_kennedy.html :

HARRY REID: “I’m glad I had the opportunity to know Ted Kennedy. Whether you agreed with him or not, what a life he lead with his two brothers being assassinated, his other brother being killed in World War II. And Robert Byrd who just died. What a– he was in the Congress of the United States for more than 25 percent of the time that we have been a country. That’s fairly remarkable.”"

Reid speaks of both men in the past tense. Rabid right-wing liars at freeper and blightbart.tv deliberately mischaracterize Reid’s words. Surprise!

If you neocons insist on “neoconning” each other, go ahead – but quit polluting the airwaves and the ‘internets” with your lies, distortions and self-delusions.

Get the wax out of your ears and LISTEN . . . unless your head deflates.

“She needs to help the best candidate win in 2012 and then get a position in the administration . . . ”

    Which she’ll quit halfway through.

Kind of amazing how every discussion devolves into the same people taking shots at each other rather than the ideas put forth.

Palin is good at articulating a basic small government message and usually plays well to audiences who are of that mind, a number growing every day. This doesnt necessarily make her the Right’s natural choice for elected office. Nor does it explain the absolute apoplexy she drives Leftists into or explain their strange obsession with her. Personally I dont think she is ready for Prime Time and Im not sure she will ever be. We already have a President who is completely in over his head, we do not need another.

She as a 76% approval rating among Republicans. Besides, who can beat her? If she enters the race the oxygen immediately goes out of the Gingrich, Huckabee, Thune campaigns. Ditto for any other conservative Republicans. Romney? How will he explain bankrupt Romneycare in Massachusetts? Pawlenty or Daniels? Zero name recognition. Not to mention that in terms of charisma alone, Sarah Palin is unbeatable.

I think the nomination is hers if she wants it.

  • Alfred J. Lemire

Wrote Glynnis MacNicol: “However, for a person who is merely looking to grab as much attention, and subsequently influence, as possible these numbers are terrific.” On what evidence does Ms. MacNicol base that comment? “Merely” can mean “just,” or “only.” That ignores her entry into politics on the local level, the issues she promoted in her candidacy for governor, and the issue positions she has taken since wisely leaving her governor’s job.

One can tell from her Facebook entries and her appearances on Fox News that she writes her material. It’s consistent in style, cogent, and to the point.

She had read the “complete lives” stuff of Rahm Emanuel’s brother and bravely used the metonymy (that’s a figure of speech, to the lefties who went to government school and didn’t learn much of the English language) I a Facebook entry on August 7, 2009. She referred to a “death panel” that would rule on her son Trig and her parents. No one “panel” would rule on both, since the issues surrounding medical care for the challenged and the elderly differ. So hers was a figure of speech, an obvious conclusion that escaped the AP and lefty critics.

She has continued to write bravely and effectively on issues of concern to her and many other conservatives. It’s completely clear that her issue preferences have affected her “Mama Grizzlies” endorsements and other statements.

Lefties cannot have it both ways. They cannot attack her because she is prolife, or supports Israel, or wants a more restrained and prudent government, in its spending, taxation, and power, or has taken any of many more issue positions, e.g., on energy, and also claim that she “merely” wants attention.

I favor Gov. Bobby Jindal or Gov. Mitch Daniels or even Gov. Tim Pawlenty for President, with Rep. Paul Ryan for Vice President. But she, like Mitt Romney, would be a vastly superior President to the present one, who demonstrably has not a clue about economics or American economic competitiveness in the world. He is a yowling liar, as he proved a few days ago with his baseless charge about the Chamber of Commerce using “foreign” money.

    “76% approval rating among Republicans”

According to this poll, she only has 44% approval among Repubs. Granted, it’s only one poll. Her best asset is her name recognition – though that cuts both ways.

“Wrote Glynnis MacNicol: “However, for a person who is merely looking to grab as much attention, and subsequently influence, as possible these numbers are terrific.” On what evidence does Ms. MacNicol base that comment?”

On Palin’s bailing out of office halfway through her term and her subsequent “cashing in” on the lecture circuit and on Fakes. She has to realize that her resignation would be a major campaign issue – as in “if we elect her will she finish her term?” By acting as if she intends to run she can maintain her influence. Influence = power = $$$, which appears to be her main interest these days.

Why was leaving the governorship “wise”?

“One can tell from her Facebook entries and her appearances on Fox News that she writes her material. It’s consistent in style, cogent, and to the point.”

Who could “refudiate” that? In fact, I can. Much of what she says does not make sense. Her empty, half-baked platitudes and vacuous exhortations are thought fulsome only by the feeblest – or most desperate – of minds.

“metonymy (that’s a figure of speech, to the lefties who went to government school and didn’t learn much of the English language)”

As opposed to all those “Rhodes scholar” Tea Partiers with the misspelled signs? Your condescension is as rude as your logic is flawed.

” I a Facebook entry on August 7, 2009. She referred to a “death panel” that would rule on her son Trig and her parents. No one “panel” would rule on both, since the issues surrounding medical care for the challenged and the elderly differ. So hers was a figure of speech, an obvious conclusion that escaped the AP and lefty critics.”

That made so little sense you could WRITE for Palin. (Lord knows SOMEONE should.) The fact that she claims there would be TWO “death panels” somehow validates these lies?

You started out good, but now you’re derailing a bit.

“Lefties cannot have it both ways. They cannot attack her because she is prolife, or supports Israel, or wants a more restrained and prudent government, in its spending, taxation, and power, or has taken any of many more issue positions, e.g., on energy, and also claim that she “merely” wants attention. ”

They don’t WANT it “both ways.” They don’t dislike her because of her beliefs; they dislike her because she is dishonest, disingenuous and vapid. She contributes nothing of value to the political discourse while simultaneously fleecing it.

“But she, like Mitt Romney, would be a vastly superior President to the present one, who demonstrably has not a clue about economics or American economic competitiveness in the world.”

Obama has to contend with a solid wall of extremists. These partisan opponents would rather damage the country – a country they swore an oath to serve – than give the president even the smallest success. You applaud their unconscionable acts as they play politics with our lives and our livelihoods . . . yours included.

Even Bush at his most craven didn’t have to deal with such anti-Americanism from Congress, even when it was controlled by the Dems.

“He is a yowling liar, as he proved a few days ago with his baseless charge about the Chamber of Commerce using “foreign” money.”

“Baseless”? ALL “dues” from both foreign and domestic members of the supposedly “U.S.” Chamber of Commerce are poured into the same bank account. Why did they fight the DISCLOSE Act so furiously if they are so honest and law-abiding? Why is the Chamber receiving ANY foreign funds in the first place?

I don’t recall any “yowling.” Perhaps this is your way of dropping a racist metaphor before you go. (“Alas, StandUp is correct.”) We’ll contain our disappointment at your departure. Not.

“polls taken in Charlie Rangel’s district cannot be deemed objective.”

Everyone makes misstatements at one time or another, but the Palin/Bush brand of incessant verbal stumbles is a sign of either intellectual lassitude or just plain “iggnerance.” “CBS is also views favorably by about 22%.” Pointless petulance is “also views” favorably by 22%. Take a bow. gordondimbulbsham: “Remember Glynnis is a joke when it comes to writing anything about Palin.” Remember gordumb and his “show” are a joke – period “Don’t take that 1 point from her!” The one on the top of her head? “Ted Kennedy went to Harvard, but he wasn’t smart enough to know that cars don’t float.” You do . . . just like similar, uh . . . organic waste. “Sarah Palin is an empty headed but talented liar.” Her questionable “talent” crashes when it attempts to sway thoughtful minds. Christine O’Donnell is “Palin on steroids” – a person who will say anything that sounds “right” at the moment, regardless of accuracy, truthfulness or consequence. Do we really want such a person in office? We’re ALREADY stuck with Michele Bachmann. “Just think where her rating would be if she wasn’t protected by Fox News and had to do legitimate interviews with legitimate news organizations.” She won’t because – like much of the extreme right – she is basically a coward. Thank you.” An excellent suggestion. I second the motion. Jenigma: You’ve got some kinda nerve bringing FACTS to this discussion! How DARE you back up your opinions with links and cross-references! I suppose you think people should thank you for such efforts. I know I do. “Talking with you is nothing to brag about, Ted.” Listening to you babble is no treat, either. “The National Education Association endorses any candidate who raises taxes” Citations/proof? “Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned rapist Wayne DuMond’s guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, DuMond murdered a women in Illinois after Huckabee set him free ” Non-rapists kill people, too. I’m no fan of Huckabee’s, but if the original verdict was indeed wrong he did the right thing. it could well be that wrongful imprisonment turned DuMond INTO a violent person. “He joined the Democratic chorus in indicting President Bush for his “arrogant bunker mentality.” Is he in the right party?” Yes. the Republicant Party desperately needs independent thinkers – having precious few, presently. “Huck’s use of the “Christian Leader” title and the Cross in his ads and his attempt to denigrate Mitt Romney’s religion is a thinly-veiled attempt to impose a religious test in violation of Article Six of the Constitution” I agree. Clemmons believes Obama “is the Messiah”.” Crazy people kill, too. Is it somehow Obama’s fault that this nutjob killed cops? You yourself note his mental state. It’s not like Obama goes on TV every day scaring the crap out of people and warning them that the government is going to take their guns away – that’s Fox’s gig. “The moniker “Huckster” is well-earned.” Indeed – but not always for the reasons you present. “writer is a card carrying member of the klan.” Maybe one of them should read it to him? “Were you home-schooled by any chance or are you inhaling paint?” Lead-based, probably. “You might want to tell Dingy Harry. When asked who the best living American’s are, he said Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd.” From: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/10/08/reid_greatest_living_americans_are_robert_byrd_and_ted_kennedy.html : HARRY REID: “I’m glad I had the opportunity to know Ted Kennedy. Whether you agreed with him or not, what a life he lead with his two brothers being assassinated, his other brother being killed in World War II. And Robert Byrd who just died. What a– he was in the Congress of the United States for more than 25 percent of the time that we have been a country. That’s fairly remarkable.”” Reid speaks of both men in the past tense. “She needs to help the best candidate win in 2012 and then get a position in the administration . . . ” Which she’ll quit halfway through.

Did not know you were such a windbag , Rachel . Never have seen your ” show ‘ .

“76% approval rating among Republicans” According to this poll, she only has 44% approval among Repubs. MacNicol base that comment?” On Palin’s bailing out of office halfway through her term and her subsequent “cashing in” on the lecture circuit and on Fakes. It’s consistent in style, cogent, and to the point.” Who could “refudiate” that? In fact, I can. Much of what she says does not make sense. Her empty, half-baked platitudes and vacuous exhortations are thought fulsome only by the feeblest – or most desperate – of minds. “metonymy (that’s a figure of speech, to the lefties who went to government school and didn’t learn much of the English language)” As opposed to all those “Rhodes scholar” Tea Partiers with the misspelled signs? Your condescension is as rude as your logic is flawed. ” I a Facebook entry on August 7, 2009. She referred to a “death panel” that would rule on her son Trig and her parents. No one “panel” would rule on both, since the issues surrounding medical care for the challenged and the elderly differ. So hers was a figure of speech, an obvious conclusion that escaped the AP and lefty critics.” That made so little sense you could WRITE for Palin. ” They don’t WANT it “both ways.” They don’t dislike her because of her beliefs; they dislike her because she is dishonest, disingenuous and vapid. She contributes nothing of value to the political discourse while simultaneously fleecing it. “But she, like Mitt Romney, would be a vastly superior President to the present one, who demonstrably has not a clue about economics or American economic competitiveness in the world.” Obama has to contend with a solid wall of extremists. “He is a yowling liar, as he proved a few days ago with his baseless charge about the Chamber of Commerce using “foreign” money.” “Baseless”? ALL “dues” from both foreign and domestic members of the supposedly “U.S.” Chamber of Commerce are poured into the same bank account. Why did they fight the DISCLOSE Act so furiously if they are so honest and law-abiding? Why is the Chamber receiving ANY foreign funds in the first place? I don’t recall any “yowling.” Perhaps this is your way of dropping a racist metaphor before you go. (“Alas, StandUp is correct.”) We’ll contain our disappointment at your departure. Not. “polls taken in Charlie Rangel’s district cannot be deemed objective.” It was a nationwide poll . . . jeenyus.

Jrmci correctly pounced on my “lefties who went to government school and didn’t learn much of the English language” remark. All who attended government schools suffer from poor pedagogy. Frequent misspellings and grammatical errors reflect educators’ decision not to teach syllabification, and apparently much else, like the meanings of Latin-based roots, prefixes, and suffixes, and such fine points as the use of the comparative “er” and the superlative “est.

Jrmci did not pounce on a typographical error, “I a Facebook,” which should have been “in a Facebook.” Otherwise, I take issue with all the other observations, especially the unworthy claim of racism for using “yowling.” I will refer to two substantive jrmci questions.

Jrmci asked why I claimed that her resignation as governor of Alaska was wise. She was beset by lawsuits from various complainants. I think they numbered around 20 and were dismissed, but they tool a toll. In a news conference following her resignation, she said, “Todd and I, we’re looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills just in order to set the record straight. … My staff and I spend most of our days, we’re dealing with this stuff instead of progressing our state now.”

She could not earn the money to pay those bills as governor without detracting from her focus on the governorship and service to Alaskans. She knew that Sean Parnell, a lawyer, was highly competent and shared her views on Alaskan issues, especially with regard to oil, gas, and natural resource development. As governor, he has proved her confidence in him was well founded.

Sarah Palin has earned enough since to pay her legal bills and has carved out a position of influence on national issues. Alaska got a full-time governor and America got an intelligent, informed voice on the issues facing the country. She was wise to resign.

“Why did they [the U.S. Chamber of Commerce] fight the DISCLOSE Act so furiously if they are so honest and law-abiding?,” jrmci asked. The Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light in Spending on Elections Act, spurred by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, did not cast light on union spending. For that and other criticisms, I refer readers to a Wall Street Journal op-ed “co-authored” by eight former members of the Federal Elections Commission, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703460404575244772070710374.html?KEYWORDS=disclose+act

Big Eddie = Big Windbag – word count notwithstanding. He offers simplistic conclusions sans justification or reasoning and expects others to be equally simple-minded. Those of us with double-digit IQs demur.

  • Vietnameravet

Sarah Palin is i just the latest in a long line of opportunists who spout hate and nonsense and attract the fearful and simple minded. She follows in the footsteps of Joseph McCarthy, Jim and Tammy Baker, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and countless others who make millions pandering to the fear and racism of the radical right.

She is all platitudes and spin without substance. All wild charges without backing. But to people that have a hard time accepting a black man as president and fear his every move, she is just what they love. They cant accept the world is changing and cant accept that the US has made some serious mistakes with their right wing support, so they deny the reality of the world and convince themselves that God loves them and would never mislead them and that all the problems of the world would go away if only we “got back to God” , prevented the gays from getting married and do not hesitate to torture and kill and give tax breaks to the wealthiest. They sign their emails with God Bless America and then preach hate and lies thus joining the Liars for Jesus club. You cant reason with them because if you point out her obvious lack of knowledge and lies they claim you are misquoting them and have a “liberal agenda” . They are like the people that flock to see a salt stain on a bridge and think its the face of God and you cant tell them otherwise.

She is a liar but her fans dont care. Just as long as she bashes the evil black muslim in the white house and talks about God that is all it takes to win their unquestioning support. Further evidence of the crumbling of American society.

We did our job. Hopefully she will go away.

Sarah Palin stopped being a politician a while ago. Her inexplicable resignation as governor has killed her chances for being elected at anything ever again. She’s not smart enough to be a pundit or even a talk show host. She’s a professional political celebrity.

Some like to complain how the media has treated her, as Jason Jones of the Daily Show put it, “quoting her words verbatim and making her seem like an idiot.”, but where would she be without the media to dutifully report on her every tweet and facebook update, as if she was someone who mattered? It will all end eventually, but for the time being, she has it made. 22 per cent is enough to finance public appearances where she gets thousands for reading bland conservative platitudes off the back of her hand.
