President Obama Pardons Courage The Turkey

video

Picture 1The annual presidential pardoning of the turkey — perhaps made most famous in this West Wing clip — has to rank up there as one of the silliest things required of the president (particularly in this Decade of Hell!). It’s also, according to Mark Knoller, a recent addition to the president’s yearly holiday schedule:

It’s a long-standing tradition for American turkey growers to present the U.S. president with a Thanksgiving turkey. Pardoning the bird is a more recent practice. Some presidents were clearly more in stuffing & eating the turkey than pardoning it.

“I hadn’t been quite sure what I was going to eat Thanksgiving,” said President Johnson before Thanksgiving in 1964, “but I am glad I can eat turkey instead of crow.

In 1981, on receiving a Tom Turkey from the National Turkey Federation, President Reagan was asked what he’s going to do with Tom. “Eat him,” said Mr. Reagan straightforwardly.

President Obama did his inaugural turn at the turkey pardoning stand today and appeared to take it all in stride: “Is there an official gesture?” He asked, before sending Courage the Turkey on his happy way. (Video below). The White House website also had some fun with the high noon turkey pardon (video also below).

I hate to say it, but I think Fox News is going soft on TOTUS.
They haven’t even mentioned the story that’s on the front page of this week’s National Enquirer.
Instead, they’re talking some silliness about Climategate.
We all know Global Warming is a farce.
I forget where I heard that, but it was a credible source.
Maybe it was Fox & Friends.
TfT you certainly have to agree with me on this one!

There is one real turkey on this board and it’s NotsoAnonymous (posing here as TinafromTampa), but even she deserves a Happy Thanksgiving wish. So NSA, how about stopping your stalking and figuring out how to enjoy life — go eat some turkey rather than being one.

The part I enjoyed was when Barry quipped that today he’d saved or created two turkeys. Man’s got brass balls I’ll give him that.

CNBC’s Steve Liesman Tells Rick Santelli: “You Were Wrong About Everything”

    video

CNBC is no longer just "first in business worldwide," as their tag line states, it is also the place to see on-air dust-ups between correspondent's and anchors. Back in December we noted an on-air kerfuffle between host Steve Liesman and reporter Rick Santelli in which Santellit told his host "You don't say anything I find interesting." This morning viewers of the financial news channel bore witness to another tiff between the squabbling CNBCers.
