Rachel Maddow Uncovers The ‘Secret Agent Lives’ Of Paladino And O’Donnell

video

According to Rachel Maddow “there are a lot of secret agents, fake secret agents running for office this year….major offices” Not actual secret agents, obviously, just candidates making rather outlandish statements to the press that can’t seem to be verified by anyone.

First case in point: Christine O’Donnell, who announced in a 2006 debate that the Chinese were plotting to take over America and that she knew this because she was privy to certain classified information. When pressed, it turned out that “privileged” information came from non-profits groups she’d worked with that sent missionary workers to China. Alas, no word from either O’Donnell or the State Dept. on which groups these might have been.

Next up, Carl Paladino who apparently told a Syracuse paper last week that he was a hostage negotiator during a campus riot at Syracuse University in 1970. Except there was no riot and there was no hostage taking.

It must have been so much easier to be a politician before the Internet. Watch below.

Not impressed. With as much stuff as the media reports, distorts, and doesn’t report, all to fit it’s own agenda.

LOL That surprised me. I was in a band that played that song. The keyboard player HATED it and kept complaining but the audience always loved it. I came to the conclusion that nostalgia songs with highly identifiable guitar licks always worked. like CCR and older Stones.

  • Big Eddie

Sounds like something Maddow’s MSNBC locker room friend Olbermann ( who is truly insane -not Howard Dean crazy , but really bad ) would babble about .

    Thanks.
Yes to nostalgia. Even songs you don’t like, but identifiable, bring back memories.
I for one since a kid loved secret agent man – 6-7 years old dancing like in the video.
    any audio from your band?

I don’t know why the media can’t just concentrate on policy and the candidate’s vague and generalized positions rather than the lies they tell on the campaign trail. I don’t see how all that lying matters as long as they keep saying lower taxes and smaller government , because we’re sure they’re not lying about that.

Alan West could probably get a lot of votes by just saying he’s Batman.

ftr, Rachel, and I’m sure you’re aware, other politicians have exaggerated their past to look good like a certain Democrat who recently exaggerated his Vietnam service and is being called on it.

Although, ODonnell and West do have a certain WTF quality to their claims.

That’s easy, the LIB media has to do everything they can to help their side get elected so, taking their cues from the Dem’s, they don’t talk about policy, because they know American’s don’t want what they are selling.

  • zumpano

So, O’donnelldonnell released CLASSIFIED INFORMATION at her debate? Shouldn’t she be arrested?

Or was this RACE BAITING, since her opponent Jan Ting was CHINESE

Oh, I forgot, Republicans aren’t racist

  • chucken

China plotting to take over America? You can see why Karl Rove freaked out when O’Donnell won the GOP primary.

That is easy to say isn’t it?

I actually think it’s relevant if a candidate is lying in the campaign trail. Either party. It’s almost meaningless for a new candidate to make very generalized campaign promises using catch phrases. To make a judgmental call you need a little more information than that. Character and background counts. Wondering how ODonnell has been supporting herself these past few years counts and whether she used campaign funds illegally counts. Sending racist and bestiality emails count. How much they count depends on the voter, but they ought to know that when making a judgmental.

Rachel, go into a store and see where everything is made. The Chinese have already taken over.

  • jukin3

Well that at least 300 people that will not vote for the republicans becuase of that guy’s investigative reporting.

well, if there is someone that is elected to make decisions for my well being i like to know that they are not bat-shit crazy… and if these candidates are saying things like this then, i am sorry, but they are crazy. can you not see such basic logic? it seems that is something we could all be on the same page about…

  • exiledtruther

    Jaxager,
I’m not saying things they’ve said should be ignored, but that’s ALL the media is focusing on. They won’t talk about their policies or the crazy things the other candidates do or say. If you can’t see the media bias, then you aren’t looking.

It shouldn’t be hammered over and over again – just makes the media look stupid and partisan. But their wacko views are relevant in that they can only fly in this crazy election cycle – just about any other time and they’d be laughed off the stage. Normally by this point in the campaign, most of the crazies have been sent packing – but not this time! ;-)

Poor Rach, I think she is auditioning for SNL. They already have enough lefty lesbians and girly men.

  • felixw

The Left is making a big mistake running on character attacks and smears. Some 600 races will be decided on Nov. 2, and the Left doesn’t have enough TV time — even with MSNBC running Democrat spin 24/7 — to mount character attacks in all these races. If the “progressive” pundits on TV focused on key issues — the economy, the border, jobs, the war on terror, etc. — they could help their candidates across the country. But they are clearly afraid of doing so, since their positions on these issues have been soundly rejected by the public. Yet this alternative of ridiculing a couple GOP candidates and hiding from the issues will result in huge Democrat losses in November.

You need to get your head out of your ass.

Maddow is so shallow. We have massive problems in this country and all she can do is find personal attacks?

about people who are asking to be put in charge of those problems. It actually is relevant.

  • felixw

Want to know what happens in an election year when one party focuses on issues and the other party just operates on character attacks and comedy routines? Here, check it out:

“Late yesterday, Gallup came out with new numbers on the generic ballot question—which party’s candidates would you vote for in the election for House of Representatives?…Gallup also shows the results for two different turnout models. Under its “high turnout model” Republicans lead 53%-40%. Under its “low turnout model” Republicans lead 56%-38%.

“These two numbers, if translated into popular votes in the 435 congressional districts, suggest huge gains for Republicans and a Republican House majority the likes of which we have not seen since the election cycles of 1946 or even 1928.” (From an article published today by Michael Barone)

So keep it up, Rachel! You are definitely having an impact on this election.

Yeah. It’s even sadder that the incumbents have so little to honestly talk about that this crap occupies the media.
There’s a great interview with Jon Stewart on NPR where he has good insight into the abdication of responsibility by the media and our politicians.

When someone is running who has no political record to look at it’s perfectly legit to look at their recent history to examine character. It is amazingly stupid though to think focusing on 20 year old statements will win the day.

That little boy seems to have a grudge against the conservitives. I dont think that little boys show could stand on facts only…

Go ahead, focus all your attention on the views on witchcraft by a candidate in Delaware. But you will get thrashed in the election in November. Voters want government accountability and fiscal responsibility, and when one party refuses to even talk about those issues, the public has an easy time figuring out who to vote for.

  • http://twitter.com/pewestlake Paul Westlake

Nobody has any clue what the “American people” want until they go to the polls. The self-appointed conservative know-it-all always says “the American people want” or “the American people are saying” but none of them have a fucking clue. It’s just another hard sell that never works.

  • http://twitter.com/pewestlake Paul Westlake

Oh, yeah, and Rachel tears conservatives a new asshole nightly. You can shout at the moon all day and it won’t change the fact that Rachel is better and more honest than everyone in the right-wing media… hands down.

Trying reading with some comprehension. I said recent history, which does not include a passing comment about witchcraft. Whether she misused campaign funds is certainly relevant. So is a comment she made while campaigning in 2006.

Let this sink in, When candidates like ODonnell do nothing but spout very general phrases about low taxes, and fiscal responsibility, etc they are not discussing the issues. They are just spouting slogans.
