Rep. Aaron Schock Fesses Up to Fey Fashion Faux-Pas That Went Viral

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) has acknowledged that his turquoise–or was it teal–web belt may have been too much after a picture of him attending a summer party went viral.

The Republican Congressman tweeted “Never thought a pic of me w/ my shirt on would go viral. Learned my lesson and burned the belt” after a weekend of tittering tweets about the sexy Congressman who looked like he was headed to Fire Island instead of his hometown,  Peoria, Ill.

Radio host and longtime gay activist Michelangelo Signorile tweeted over the weekend: “This man voted against “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal.” Soon, there was even a #schockfashion hashtag and @schockfashion account. The picture, which was highlighted by Gawker, instantly went viral and became the buzz of the gay blogosphere after it was reported that the pic was “jamming up the gay staff listserve”

The unmarried Schock has become an instant celebrity in D.C., which has been called “Hollywood for ugly people.”  A picture of Schock posing by a pool with just his six-pack abs and board shorts also caused temperatures (and speculation) to rise.

While some speculated the outfit looked, well, a little gay, others suggested it was vintage post-frat boy. If nothing else, Schock deserves kudos for bringing back white jeans and gingham-checked shirts unbuttoned enough to show a little skin.

Ace or Gary? Sorry but, I couldn’t resist. Actually that shirt looks like it should be covering a picnic table!

Don’t worry, the Media will make sure that this photo won’t “Play in Peoria.” This is how it is being spun by Peoria’s Blogfather. See http://www.peoria.com/message_board/view_message.php?message_board_parent_id=268355 The young man looks like he trying to hustle some old man in South Beach.

I can’t tell if he looks more like that midget on Royal Pains or Bree’s son.

I was scolded by someone on Twitter who insisted it was “Kentucky Derby” attire. Not really aware of that sub-genre of fashion.
