So? Cambodia was Buddhist. The Soviet Union was mainly Russian Orthodox. Japan was Shintoist. Chinese Atheist. But the butcheries that came from the politics of those countries weren’t derived from their religious ideologies – as is the religious inspired archaism of political Jihad. Nor did they stem from economics. Economics don’t produce impassioned antipathies required for a people to murder millions, nor do most countries that have experienced poverty resorted to mass murder. This is a common misconception viewed by many. However, if you look at the majority of terrorists that have attacked in the west you will notice that a large percentage had college degrees, even advanced degrees, and lived a comfortable life.

I think it’s easy to say you’ve received death threats from an easy scapegoat when you don’t really HAVE to prove it simply because of that population that will say “yeah…that sounds about right”.

I’ll believe this story a little more when the FBI is investigating it. Until then…hogwash.

Burning the Koran, in itself was an intolerant thing to do but, killing innocent people because of it is insane. Any religion that sanctions the killing of innocent people, is not by any standard, a religion, it’s a cult. If any harm comes to this man for expressing his 1st Amendment rights, everyone in this country should burn a copy of the Koran. The Muslim’s need to know, we will not be intimidated.

Awesome revelation: he’s using one aspect of the 1st amendment rights to shut down another aspect. How novel.

Jones exercised his freedom of speech. Distasteful, of course, but he has the right.

Of course, there is a cause and effect.
Did he kill people in Afghanistan? No.
Did his actions cause others to perpetrate violence?
Yes. Was he aware of what the burning of the Q’ran could provoke? Yes.
Did he kill anyone? No.

But, death threats have poured in and Hezbollah has placed a bounty on him. He must own that in the sense that he made a choice and choices have consequences — positive, negative, benign. Hopefully, he can acquire a good security detail because he’s a marked man. And we should do what we can to protect him because it’s the morally right thing to do.

Even if he did a morally wrong thing to cause the situation. And I have no sympathy for him because I think burning anyone’s holy ___ (item) is disrespectful and when dealing with Islam, the book is more than just a book and is not viewed the same way other religions view their holy book.
