Sarah Palin Has Been Invited To Visit Margaret Thatcher

Maybe Margaret Thatcher wants some tips on how to run a Facebook page. Sarah Palin has apparently been invited to England . Part of that invitation apparently includes an offer to meet with former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. From (where else) Sarah Palin’s Facebook page:

Following an article in a British publication on Sunday, I’ve received questions about a possible trip to the United Kingdom. I have received an invitation for a visit to London, and part of that invitation included the offer of arranging a meeting between myself and one of my political heroines, the “Iron Lady,” Margaret Thatcher. I would love to meet her and hope I’ll be able to arrange the trip in the future.

Alas, Palin does not disclose whether or not she knows who David Cameron is (an anonymous source in the Daily Mail article suggested she didn’t). And considering her recent statements on keeping foreigners our of our oil business, a currently over-sensitive Britain might not welcome her with open arms. Regardless, one can only hope Palin decides to Twitter the meeting should it come about.

I am pleased the Drop Out Governor of Alaska will have an opportunity to see how a lady dresses, wears make-up and carries herself in public. This is a rare opportunity I hope she exploits.

BTW DOGA, great pub two blocks south of King’s Cross/St. Pancras called Skinner’s. I highly recommend it.

Most people in the country don’t know who David Cameron is. If you watch man on the street interviews most people don’t know who Joe Biden is. Nobody knows who RRK is. He is too busy hiding behind a phony name.
Palin visits Thatcher and Obama should visit the Wizard to get a brain. RRK got his papers in OZ.

  • JohnSimpson

I love how SP makes the libs belch out their hate!

    Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Caryson

Palin should stand next to Maggie Thatcher and let the people of the UK know that the unlike the president, the people of the US respect the special bond of our allies.

Palin should also visit Bibi Netanyahu and stand next to him to let him know that even thought the President of the the US does not support our key in the Middle East, the citizens of the United States of America stand with the people of Israel!

  • chetkres

In 2008 it was reported by her daughter that Margaret Thatcher suffers from dementia and cannot remember the death of her own husband. She also suffered an injury at home last year, and she is 84. Does she still receive visitors? It’s far different from actually arranging a meeting with Thatcher than merely receiving an “offer of arranging a meeting”. Maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but it seems that Palin is just trying to associate herself with Thatcher, and the media, as usual, is granting her wish.

  • Sheryn

Now for the TRUTH. According to the staff of Margaret Thatcher, Sarah Palin stated that she had long admired Lady Thatcher and asked for a private interview and pictures. The staff were concerned about whether they should grant this request–since the Royal Family had already turned down Palin’s staff’s request, and Lady Thatcher suffers from Alzheimers. The staff question whether Lady Thatcher is being used by Palin for political purposes.

Cameron is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Blower. The United Kingdom consists of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and Northern Ireland. Cameron is a member and the leader of the Tories. The Tories could not secure enough votes to get a Parliamentary majority. As such, he heads the coalition between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats. Nick Clegg is the head of the Liberal Democrats. Cameron, as Prime Minister, is deemed to be the Head of State. The Head of State of the UK meets only with other heads of state. Barack Obama is the Head of State of the United States. Cameron would meet with President Obama. He would not meet with a governor of a state with a very small population who resigned half way through her term.

If you would like me to explain this on the Gordon Blower Show, just tell me the studio at which to show up and the date and time. My schedule is tight at the moment, but I’ll do my best to accommodate you and your fan.

  • The Real Royal King

Chetkres and Sheryn: I do have grave concerns that Lady Thatcher could even host such a meeting. She is apparently terribly disoriented now.

  • me1ranger

That’s a cheap shot. I hope even the most hateful of you libs could refrain from making any attacks on Lady Thatcher..just don’t do it.

  • The Real Royal King

Me1Ranger: You seem to have caught your friend John’s affliction. No one is taking cheap shots at Lady Thatcher. She is terribly, terribly ill. People are questioning DOGA exploiting that illness. As an American, I find what DOGA is doing disturbing and embarrassing. You should as well.

  • paulmdoro

Suggesting that Thatcher might be taken advantage of due to dementia is not attacking her.

  • JohnSimpson

And considering her recent statements on keeping foreigners our (sic) of our oil business,”

She didn’t say that. She said don’t blindly trust what they say, verify it and don’t sign your rights for recovery away.

Sounds like BHO admin. wish they had done just that.

  • JohnSimpson

King, I’m still waiting for your proof about 9/11, you inveterate liar.

  • SteveM

    Gordon, RRK:
If you disagree with a person’s politics, that’s all well and good; if you want honest discourse, then stop with the insults. Agree to disagree, but do so civilly. Thank you.

  • The Real Royal King

Here is a short interview with Lady Thatcher’s daughter, Carol, a British journalist:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/aug/25/margaretthatcher.politics

The BBC has a special on Lady Thatcher last year. When the British people tired of Tory rule and Lady Thatcher left office, she was terribly unpopular. However, she is much respected. Carol said that her Mother’s sense of time, events later in her life and people is largely gone. Recollections remote in time, smells and place seem to be able to bring about some recollection. Carol arranged a drive past Number 10, and Lady Thatcher began to cry. However, she was unable to explain why.

I share the British public’s respect for Lady Thatcher. I don’t want to see her exploited, especially not by an American.

  • me1ranger

Whatever..I adore that woman. I wish this story was never posted here. You watch and see..the attacks will come. And if she didn’t invite Palin, and this is a stunt on her behalf, then damn her to hell. I’ll wait for the details before concluding how I feel about their meeting.

  • paulmdoro

Maybe it’s just a symbolic meeting, a prominent conservative leader of the past getting together with one of the present.

  • The Real Royal King

Notice the language quoted, however. The future and conditional tenses are used almost exclusively. I’m not at all sure that this meeting is imminent.

  • me1ranger

I kind of hope it’s not going to happen..I like Palin, but not as a leader. Maybe there’s a statue or cardboard cut-out she could pose with instead..Leave the Iron Maiden out of our petty political squabbles..

  • The Real Royal King

I, of course, find little to admire in Palin, Me1, but your response is most reasonable. I applaud it.

  • sarainitaly

Of course it’s just a symbolic meeting. What else could it be?

And why is it so hard to believe that Palin just adores her, and would love to meet one of her heroes? If Sarah was invited to England, and she asked to meet Thatcher, is that so out of the ordinary? She is in poor health and why shouldn’t Palin want to meet her, before she passes?

Good gawd, does everything involving Palin have to resort to more hate spew?

And please, she doesn’t know who Cameron is? I’m sure she could spend all of the two seconds it takes to ask, “who is the PM in UK?”

  • paulmdoro

Of course Palin knows who David Cameron is. There are certain people from both sides of the aisle who cause many to resort to hate spew. It’s the American way.

  • sarainitaly

Of course Palin knows who David Cameron is.

That’s my point. (i might not have been clear)

  • The Real Royal King

    Sarah N. Italy:

[1] I missed the part where Palin didn’t know who Cameron is. I thought Blower didn’t know who Cameron was. I am sure Palin knows who Cameron is.

[2] I don’t think there is anything wrong with Palin meeting Lady Thatcher. Palin can be ham-handed. Discussing a possible meeting is what I find exploitive and in poor taste given Lady Thatcher’s condition.

  • The Real Royal King

Curiously, what percentage of Americans do you think know who David Cameron is? I don’t know for certain, but I suspect that it is higher than what Blower surmises? 35%?

  • paulmdoro

    From 2008:

The survey, conducted between April 30 and June 1 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, measured the political knowledge of 3,612 U.S. adults. Participants were asked to name the controlling party of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. secretary of state and Great Britain’s prime minister.

Overall, just 18 percent of participants answered all three questions correctly.

    Also:

Just 44 percent of BBC viewers identified the prime minister correctly.

It is fitting that Baroness Thatcher should pass the torch of Conservatism to Queen Sarah Palin, the Great Lady of American politics in the 21st Century.

  • sarainitaly

[1] I missed the part where Palin didn’t know who Cameron is. – That’s because you don’t read the posts. You just sit in wait, and jump on people’s comments, most often with off topic remarks.

[2] I don’t think there is anything wrong with Palin meeting Lady Thatcher. Discussing a possible meeting is what I find exploitive and in poor taste given Lady Thatcher’s condition. – So, Palin responding to questions about an article in the newspaper is exploitive and in poor taste?

  • http://twitter.com/SailRabbits Magister

A couple of previous commenters have explained why we hadn’t seen Margaret Thatcher in so long, I thought for sure that she had passed. And considering her lack of public appearance, her illness and the fact that she and her estate would have nothing to gain, I’d say that some smooth-tongued shyster has said “sure, we may be able to arrange it” in an attempt to get Ms. Palin to do whatever event or product, they’re hoping she’d promote.

  • me1ranger

I first learned of the Right Honorable Gentlman Cameron, while working out and watching the House of Commons Prime Minister question periods on c-span..a jolly good show. I’m certain almost everyone watched them too. Right?

  • me1ranger

    Gentleman..damn it!

  • paulmdoro

  • me1ranger

Thanks Paul..I isn’t the bestest speller anyhoo.

  • stoogedudes

I don’t see the big deal about this. If Sarah Palin wants to meet Lady Thatcher, so be it. She’s free to do what she wants and while I strongly disagree with Palin on a lot of issues, I don’t see the need to attack her on this one. Not that all of my fellow liberals are in this instance, but I see no harm from this.

I think our schools need to teach our children who the world’s leaders are. They wouldn’t be hurt in knowing who David Cameron is or who Margaret Thatcher was. They should also know about Nicolas Sarkozy, Stephen Harper, Kevin Rudd, and Felipe Calderon just to name a few. If they knew who these people were, they’d perhaps understand world affairs a bit better. Just a thought. Couldn’t hurt.

  • The Real Royal King

Never mind, Sara N. Italy. At some point, it’s just not with the effort.

  • http://gordonbloyershow.com gordonbloyershow

Hey Steve M. Who asked you? I missed your post to RRK telling him to stop the insults.

RRK where did I say that I did not know who David Cameron is? I did not say Palin did not know who he is. I know you had to look it up.
In a post above the polls prove what I said was correct. I don’t need a poll to prove it though as I said just go out to any college campus and ask them who Cameron is. My guess they would say the guy that made Avitar.

  • JohnSimpson

    me1ranger

If ya use Firefox, they have a spellchecker that you can use as an “add-in.”

    Try it.

  • paulmdoro

Not just a college campus gordon.

  • titan

It would of been better had Palin just said “No comment”. It comes off as if she publicly seeking an audience. This would have been better conducted behind the scenes.

  • The Real Royal King

Perhaps, I am on the wrong college campuses. I’ve done some recruiting of late at the University of Texas, the University of Michigan, Cal Berkeley, Brown, Dartmouth, Northwestern, the University of Wisconsin. Admittedly, that’s not that many. I have come across some wonderful, bright, articulate, well-read, focused young men and women. I am convinced our future is in very good hands.

  • Sheryn

Please read the comments from Lady Thatcher’s staff. They did not request an interview with Sarah Palin and were very reluctant to authorize the visit. They feel that Baroness Thatcher is in ill health and should be protected from someone like Palin who wants to exploit her for their own agenda. The newspapers in the U.K. are protective of their beloved former Prime Minister and do not believe that Palin was invited by anyone in authority. Apparently Sarah Palin and her publicity agents are distorting the truth about this visit.

  • The Real Royal King

Apparently Sarah Palin and her publicity agents are distorting the truth about this visit.

I have come to expect that, as well. If so, it is a vile deed.

  • SteveM

Gordon- re-read my post. You’ll see that I ask RRK the same.

Glynnis, why would you even question “whether” Palin knows “who David Cameron is”?

Never mind. I almost forgot. Wannabe Manhattan media mavens (falsely) think that everyone living outside or very far from the concrete canyons of their beloved Manhattan media Mecca, are uninteresting, uneducated, uninformed, incapable of doing anything interesting or worthwhile at all, dolts.

Sorry sweety, but somebody needs to tell you that you boorish, snobbish, unwarranted Lefty elitism is showing. Again.

  • Sheryn

Sarah Palin has no shame. If she wants to visit Margaret Thatcher, then she should visit as a private individual and not announce it to the world. It is obvious that she is lying when she announced that she was invited to come visit–Sarah Palin was planning to visit some country that speaks English (easier for her) and wants a tax write-off for the entire Palin family of locusts to see England. She is not representing the United States–holds no public office–has not announced that she is running for President in 2012 as the British press said she told them–and she certainly cannot be trusted to represent our Country. The truth is that Sarah Palin made a lot of promises to the residents of Alaska and quit the office to which she was elected. She ran with McCain for higher office and she lost. She and her family are dysfunctional and polls taken show that the American people do not trust her and think that she is very self-centered and greedy. It is insulting that Sarah Palin now seems to think that she should go to foreign countries and represent the United States. Who died and put Queen Blah Blah in charge?

  • WaterLoo

In other news, it’s being reported Mediatite’s Glynnis was invited to attend a meeting amongst respected journalists. Maybe Glynnis wants some tips on how to be taken seriously. Thoughts?

  • WaterLoo

Further, Glyniss doesn’t disclose on this website whether her intention is to be taken as a serious journalist BUT an anonymous source (my cousins best friends sisters dog) suggested she didn’t. Thoughts?

The headline makes it sound like Thatcher invited $arah…$arah contacted her and said she may be England and if she was could they meet….I am sure Thatcher is chuckling.

$arah wants a photo op so she can seem SUBSTANTIAL…the woman is an idiot.

I doubt very much Sarah Palin knew who Maggie Thatcher is until someone offered to arrange a meeting between the two. Thatcher has little patience with idiots – she’ll cut Palin to the bone.

  • Sheryn

It is official: The media made a call directly to the Staff of Lady Thatcher and they said that they had been contacted by Sarah Palin’s STAFF (and not someone who had invited Palin to come to England and said they would try to set up an appointment.) They do not know why Sarah Palin is saying that she was invited–and they cannot guarantee that Lady Thatcher will even be healthy enough to have pictures taken with Sarah Palin. They want to protect her and see that she is not being exploited. (Let’s see if FOX news reports this exaggeration of the truth by the Palin circus.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Norman-Murphy/1485778246 Norman Murphy

Sarah Palin is the lowest of low. A disgraced governor who let her husband use her office to intimidate whoever he wanted, particularly attempting to destroy the career of her brother-in-law. These scofflaws and ignoramuses are part of the Republican attempt to have criminals run the country–or should I say corporate interests and the TEA Party faggots.
