Of course, it’s hard for the left to know where to draw the line, since their whole P.R. apparatus is built around insults, ridicule and personal attacks these days. They don’t like debate, because that legitimizes the right, and their whole philosophy is built on discrediting their opponents. But, when you have abandoned reasonable dialogue in favor of smears, it’s not easy to find an ethical anchor or a set of guiding values to prevent you from saying this vile stuff. So expect more of the same in the future.

Sean Penn is NOTHING but a publicity hound–trying to get some face time. However, if I had a face like his, I’ll be damned if I’d want anyone to notice it.

Consider: Who they pick for a spokesperson and a front man on the project reflects on the project itself. That’s why you go to the trouble to recruit a celebrity spokesperson in the first place.

Therefore, how your chosen representative represents themselves in public is 100 percent germane to your effort, and questions about said activities are 100 percent relevant to the proceedings.

There is a reason that certain professional athletes lost sponsors and endorsement deals after major scandals they were involved in became news. They had been recruited and paid in the belief that they projected a certain image, and when certain things about that image became public concern for other reasons it was 100 percent relevant to their activities as representatives.

The same applies in Sean Penn’s case. If they knew this guy was tossing verbal hand grenades and even calling for reporters to be arrested for criticising Hugo Chavez “How dare you call that leader a dictator! You should all be arrested, that will show you how un-dictatorish he is!” then they knew full well it was an issue, that it could come up, and that it could affect their own image and their own efforts. They would be completely foolish not to. What did they expect at an open press conference? Think they could put Tiger Woods out there and not expect marriage questions, or put South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford out there and not get scandal questions? In short, it was 100 percent on topic, they knew it was out there as far as what he said, and if they didn’t want it associated with their organization they should have picked someone else. They can’t complain about a reporter asking a question about their official spokesperson’s statements, that deefats the purpose of having one. Unless they, like Penn, think that all questions are fine unless it is one they don’t like, then it is time to threaten reporters.

The threats are childish and stupid as long as there is no power behind them. We should remember that thes types, if they had the chance, would make sure there was power behind them.

That too is relevant and something the public desrves to hear about, and hear answers to.

There are hundreds of actors, singers and musicians who are less incendiary than that fool; Sean Penn to get ALL people involved in acquiring aid to the Haitian people, not some nutjob like Sean Penn.

Penn is an idiot. He wants to journalist jailed…what a complete moron and tool for totalitarians. Why are Liberals running to defend Chavez who jails opponents and shuts down any opposing voices, like TV stations and newspapers.

What do you journalists think about that? Do you believe journalists should be arrested for questioning a dictator?

With that said, what I saw in the clip is that she asked Penn a non-Haiti question at a Haiti event. Every indication is that the event organizer is the one who stepped-in to get the conversation back on topic, not Sean’s publicist, but a publicist for the Haitian charity, who was most likely prepared for such an occurrence. After all, if Penn had said something controversial, it could steal ink from the charitable cause and if he were to say something really off the wall, it’d totally detract from the mission..

As for the “I pretended to delete the footage”… that was obviously her choice; I really doubt that in 2010, anyone tried to take her camera. Instead, a woman in a pretty dress at a charity event was giving her a mild scolding and the young reporter tried to deflect by going “I’ll delete the footage”.

Not to mention that claiming a Rabbi tried to take her camera makes for a better headline.

Otherwise, it sounds like the event organizer was trying to explain that her job was to keep the focus on Haiti; the Rabbi walked over to stand in his friend (or lessee’s) corner or to see what was up because it was a boring event and then, an off-duty cop (or some other type of security guard) came over and asked if there was a problem because it was his job.

Naturally, somehow being in the vicinity of private security performing their function became “the cops almost threw me out” or some other meaningless phrase.

If you thought the true tragedy of the Haitian earthquake was all the death and destruction, you’re wrong. The real tragedy is that Sean Penn hasn’t gotten nearly enough credit for what he has done to save those people. And if the United States would just get out of the way, he would have saved them already, and he could move on to the next country and vanquish their capitalist foes with rectal cancer. It’s Sean Penn’s world, and we’re lucky to be allowed to live in it.
