Pat Doherty wrote:
If Palin was indeed selected the way “Game Change” asserts (i.e. the Internet), wouldn’t Palin’s allegations vis a vis the general incompetence of Schmidt and his cronies be absolutely right?

The funniest thing about that part is that Palin was found online in her appearance on Charlie Rose. If you find the video of that Rose show online, you'll see comments slamming then-Governor Palin's answers and the usual insults about her supposed lack of intelligence in comparison with Rose's other guest, sitting at Charlie's big desk. Who was the other one?

Janet Napolitano! HA!

More concerning IMHO is the fact that he couldn't figure out that Republicans didn't want Lieberman! "Let's see, who can we get ... I know! Let's get the guy who was on the LOSING side in 2000!" Was Schmidt so freaking tone deaf that he couldn't hear the voices of millions of conservatives saying that if McCain moved any further to the left, they were gone? And I would like to know if anyone turned McCain down flat. Was Romney asked? We know Huck wasn't asked, because he was campaigning for the job as soon as it was clear he wasn't going to be nominated.

The saddest part is while his brand has been damaged, Schmidt is still going to find work despite his incompetence. Political consulting is such a specialized (and frankly dirty) job that those who have experience will always find someone who wants them get a leg up, Bob Shrum is living proof that you can lose at the highest level and still be highly coveted. Mark McKinnon got in with the McCain campaign despite being the guy who hired Yvette Lozano for the Bush 2000 campaign (Lozano, a Democrat mole, sent Bush campaign debate prep materials to the Gore campaign).

With all due respect Colby -- I just watched the interview. I heard the following:

"I'm proud of Sarah"
"She energized the party"
"She will be a major factor in our party"

"I don't know what the sources are" in regards to the quotes Lauer read from the book on the vetting process. I think you have completely mischaracterized this interview in your snarky report. He never said he was tired of talking about Sarah, he said he was tired of talking about the campaign because unemployment is 10%, two wars, etc.

I must say I'm very disappointed in your take on the Today show interview with McCain. But hey, you are free to interpret it your way and put words in McCain's mouth -- which you clearly did.

So McCain is saying that he trusted his staff to do the vetting process, but can't verify the information found because he wasn't doing it himself. Wow... how terrible. I'm sure Obama poured over books and documents before he selected Biden... right? *rolls eyes*

Every day, this site gets snarkier and nastier... and sadly, it's not just the comments (as exampled by DEO), but often the actual writers. This post is a good example of that... nasty and sarcastic for no other reason than politics. They fluff folks like Maddow, and attack anyone to her right with an arrogance that is undeniable. *Sigh* And I know this will probably result in Colby sending me another goofy email... but whatever. What a disappointment.

The man has had a long and distinguished career, but it's like it's suddenly dawned on him that his legacy will always have the Sarah Palin question mark. If Bush #41 hadn't won, he may have found himself in the same boat, but unfortunately for Sen. McCain, he wasn't successful and the choice of Palin is all a lot of people will ever know.
