I would respectfully submit to ardent Glenn Beck supporters that they miss the larger point.

Statements or even videos of damaging statements from individuals or organizations aren't necessarily emblematic of their beliefs or role in society, and indeed may be used to deliberately portray a picture totally at odds with their essence.

It takes little imagination to surmise the motivations of dedicated members of the right in misrepresenting Acorn, Dunn, Obama, et al, as enemies of all that is good and American when their targets have a full and rich history of ably giving voice to the voiceless, admirably helping the poor and the least among us, and struggling against overwhelming odds to make real the American Dream for all citizens - especially when the purveyors of such blatantly unrepresentative tripe are the inheritors of a movement with over a one hundred year history of slavishly catering to the rich and powerful and attacking the poor and dispossesed.

Madigan does America no favors, however, by antagonizing the historically hysterical right by falsely implying there's a deficient mentality quotient by adherents.

There have always been incredibly intelligent people who's ideology overrides any ability for empathy and kindness to the less fortunate; the shame is the increasing ease with which they manipulate those most harmed by the group's goals.

That's funny. Maybe I'm just one of those know-nothings, but it seems to me that Glenn Beck goes to great lengths to convict the Obamanoids out of their own mouths, with video. It was videos of ACORN's operatives who were subverting the system to help furnish young girls to pedophiles that caused Congress to cut off their funding. It was videos of Van Jones that brought about his resignation. Hopefully, it will be the video of Anita Dunn praising Chairman Mao which will get her Communist butt tossed out of the White House. Dr. Madigan does not have video of Mr Beck saying something equally nonsensical, he just maligns Beck without proof.

Did Dr. Madigan actually state anything of substance in that article? Has he proven any factual errors on Glen Beck's part? Then Dr. Madigan pulls a number (12%) from who knows where, and essentially calls this mysterious segement of the population sheeplike idiots. If these people are "know-Nothings", what does that make Dr. Madigan? We will not go into his dog fetish, since it is beyond the scope of the "serious" part of the article.

Came here to do anti nafta media after the battle of seattle. read a lot of stuff. Funny to me that the "right wing" is the closest to real analysis of what is there to be seen by those who have eyes. I think a quaint white man once wrote a book called common sense.....oh, silly me, thats just a rip off of Glen but its interesting tht the left has devolved into excuses and partisanism while the right has opened up and started looking afresh at whats going on, even to renouncing the neo-con (trotsky turncoats/infiltrators) amd all the industrialmil crap that they used to uphold as the ideal of america or leave it. GE and GM getting dissed on the right? unheard of in my youngerr days. common now!

While the left cries that so many of us wont roll over and play happy happy and thank them and piss over ourselves in puppy- joy for the scraps from the masters internationalist table.....so many won't that maybe they will just have to run roughshod over us. To which which i can only say: the constitution, love honour and obey it - or get out. while you may.

m you and your Charles M. Madigan thinking crowd haven't a clue....the rest of us are law abiding citizens who believe in the founders of the Constitution and the current and last administration has not been following it thus you see people who are protesting in the streets.

"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government."

Patrick Henry

"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure."

>the next several years comes out, what will you say when your taxes are double what they are now, the unemployment rate is triple, and the dollar has folded with gas at astronomical rates in this country or do you just not care?

I will laugh, because all of those things will obviously ever happen - thus prove the exact point Charles M. Madigan is making.

Love him or hate him he does bring up some interesting questions.

I pay attention to the things he brings up on his show; some are quite provocative, although he employs too much showmanship at times. Why is it that he, as well as those who choose to watch him are subjected to personal attacks from the left?

The reason is that the questions and points he makes seem to be accurate in that, where are the answers or responses to the contrary? The people he reveals to the viewers are often exposed by their own words and most even on video.

Take Anita Dunn, the person Obama has selected to lead his war on the FOX Network. Glen had a video that was on last night explaining that she philosophically agrees with Mao Zedong! Are you kidding me?!! Then she tells Jake Tapper today “I was kidding” I saw the video and she wasn’t kidding.

I for one am very appreciative that he [Beck] and FOX brings these far-left radicals that the Obama administration has snuck into Washington to the forefront.

So Madigan, with all of the hate spewed by your far-left pundits, Olbermann, Maddow, Mahr, Matthews, Letterman etc., which of course escapes scrutiny, you can understand why your opinion doesn’t mean much to those of us who watch Beck and the FOX network. The leftist agenda has been exposed thanks to them.
You have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting.

Jim R and m, I happen to be a "know nothing about nothing" viewer of Glenn Beck. When the analysis of the next several years comes out, what will you say when your taxes are double what they are now, the unemployment rate is triple, and the dollar has folded with gas at astronomical rates in this country or do you just not care? This crapola we call the current political and financial crisis is not about party but it is becoming an assault on all of our values including the medium we are now using.

Find yourself a brain and start reading what is currently going on. With regard to Sarah Palin, do you not like her because she did not have a teleprompter and go to an IVY league school. She ran Alaska better than any other state in the country, now she is making millions.

What we really need in this country are ultra conservatives when it comes to money right now or we are done. But what are contemplating, a government run financial DMV type healthcare system where you take the best healthcare system in the country and crush it replacing it with something that is not funded and then having the citizens pay for the mistake.

Obama and Bush are making the banking industry billions, gambled with derivatives like a drunken VEGAS party and now we the people who are concerned are told we are OUT of TOUCH and many other names. We differ in opinions and that is what is called debate.

This observation is so typical of the left. No specific examples to back their observations yet they fit "right wing", "foolish", "silly rhetoric" and "know nothingness" into their diatribe. I'm surprised "racist" wasn't added somewhere. No matter the topic, it appears the left has developed a strategy of rather than defending Obama, it is easier to attack his opposition. Apparently, it is easier to label the opposition rather than defend Obama with a well thought out piece on why his policies are good for the country.

It is especially effective to note some stupid things from the far, far right and imply these represent all conservatives. I think these people slept the past eight years. I'm not a fan of Bush or Obama but in the Bush years, they made a movie about his assassination! The extreme left went "nuts" over everything Bush did or said (not unlike the extreme right is doing today). We were supposed to believe Bush (the dems dumbest president ever) was able to cover up a 9/11 conspiracy involving 3000 dead Americans but their smartest president (Clinton) ever couldn't cover up a BJ. But, they had help from key members of the democrat party in the hateful rhetoric. Below is a link to a sound bite to an Al Gore speech full of hatred. It's easy to find clips of Pelosi, Reid, Clinton, Kerry, Frank, Rangel and so many other leading democrats calling Bush a liar, stupid and so many other names. These aren't people from moveon.org, MSNBC, Huffington Post, daily kos, mediamatters or other hateful wingnuts, these are leading members of the democrat party. You don't see republican leaders showing the same disrespect of the president. Yes, Joe Wilson inappropriately called the president a liar but immediately apologized. Elected republicans disagree with Obama's policies but they aren't playing the same name-calling games the dems did.

I don't watch Beck so I can't defend him. I did watch some of Maddow and Olbermann during the Bush years and I doubt he could be as hateful, I may be wrong. The self righteousness of the left is sad at best.

Excellent analysis, particulary apt is his analogy of Fox to a person with a disturbingly high number of garage fire photos - promotion or participation versus reporting.
