Watch: Newly Released Footage Shows Inside Of Washington Monument During Earthquake

Video

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to experience a natural disaster from the point of view of a national monument? Well, then. You’re a little odd. And also in luck! A newly-released video taken from inside the Washington monument shows a security guard and tourists reacting to the earthquake that hit several states along the East Coast back in August.

The National Park Service, which released the video, says it isn’t certain when the monument will reopen until after an assessment is completed in the coming weeks and cracks that formed near the top of the structure are repaired and sealed. So far, repairs to the famous monument have cost over $200,000.

In the video, you can see a panicked female guard usher worried tourists down the stairs as the building begins to rock. (But… are you supposed to do that during an earthquake? Or is it better to stay put or move under a doorway? What’s an East Coaster to do?)

Have a look at the footage for yourself:

Wow, it really shook alot.  I remember walking up to the top.  My friend said it would be worth the trip.  I got up there and was to tired and scared of heights.  Walking down was better and didn’t take us as much time.

That female park ranger probably knocked a few out of her way.  Who is she, George Costanza’s sister?

I just got a $827.89 Samsung Galaxy Tab for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HTV for only $251.92, they are both coming tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prîces at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.

Tbags – really?  Can we not avoid hyperbole when responding to something as innocuous as this?

And while we’re at it, let’s “FIX” the social ills of society by limiting the procreation of those who bring down society, like the poor and minorities.  When this proves fallacious (and based on “bad science”), we’ll come up with another solution which will fix society, we’ll call it the “New Deal” or “The New Frontier” or “The Great Society.”  And every time it doesn’t work we’ll blame the problem on the ills of society and a particular group, ethnicity, or class in society that way they never suspect us as the real problem.  We can continue to create problems and their solutions with their money, with no recourse whatsoever.  We will continue to divide society along these lines until our power cannot be retracted.  If they ever figure out our little game we engage in repeated ad hominem attacks so as to discredit their all to logical conclusions.  By the time our promises have been entirely exposed as hollow and without results, we will have acquired enough power so we may really “FIX” society.

Hey, the Washington Monument has some babe-alicious rangers!  Nothing freudian, I am sure.  Sometimes an obelisk is just an obelisk.

  • WardMD

    Now the REAL PROBLEMS begin!

Obama will try to change it to the MOSQUE-ington Wonument (hey, it’s just a simple typo).

Look for the Islamic Crescent atop the proposed drawings!

  • JJKing

WOW, that officer was a real big help,

  • Ralph

They should tear it down and rebuild it.  It’s important that we not become too attached to these monuments because there are so many of them.  They all crumble and can be attacked.

    You’re a total idiot.

  • Ardiva

    Don’t be silly..

You, sir, are a fooking idiot.

    Good question.
