Your Moment Of Glenn: Beck Fact-Checks His Own ‘Misinformation’

video

Wow. So I assumed that after nearly two weeks away from his television show — a period of time during which there was an attempted bombing of a commercial jet liner, and the subsequent fallout revealed a national security system that was entirely lacking, AND this happened on Obama’s watch — that Glenn Beck would spend a significant chunk of today’s show in some sort of apoplectic tirade about all of the above and then probably throw some ‘refounding’ and 9/12-ing in for good measure. Boy was I wrong.

Apparently Beck is still smarting from being named ‘misinformer of the year‘ by Media Matters. So much so, that he is spending this entire week vetting all his controversial assertions of 2009 (video below). There were a lot. The result is a bit like some weird ‘this is your life’ Beck mashup, which is veering awfully close to a “very special episode.” This is going to be a long week.

Glenn Beck is RIGHT – SOCIOFASCISM is EVERYWHERE!!1 Besides, everyone knows that Media Matters is funded by GEORGE SOROS, Al Franken, and the Chinese government!!1 Why would we believe a THING they say??!!1 I’ll stick to BECK, thank you very much!!1

  • Moderate

What other commentator keeps a phone on his desk so people can call up and refute his information? Glenn has the facts on video. The far left call him a misinformer but never preset any facts to back up the claim.

  • Moderate

Karl Spensen you could make a better case if you did not grossly overstate your case. One could assume you are being facetious.

  • Ted

Moderate – you are little more than a Glenn Beck suck up. You must be joking about the phone which is little more than a prop from a former FM shock jock. There are plenty of facts that support the title of mis-informer of the year. You just choose not to believe them, quite possibly due to the fact that you are a dumb ass…just like Glenn Beck. But Glenn thanks people like you as he deposits millions into his bank account.

“Fact-checking misinformation,” Glynnocchio? Thanks for reminding me! :)

We’re now in Day 12 of your lie about “Glenn Beck [asserting] that the government was putting sterilants in the drinking water to control population…”

It’s Day 35 of your lie about “Birthers [Comparing] Obama To An Ape.”

How much longer will Editor Glynnis go without correcting herself when all she needs to do is click and read the truth? Stay tuned — same moonbat time, same moonbat channel!

  • sueNaustin

Did anyone hear over the holidays that Glenn Beck was rumored to have died in a plane crash? No, neither did I until Glenn Beck said it on the radio today.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

It is quite evident that these Beck updates are a paradox: The guy is a wing-nut crank who should be wearing a tin foil hat in his basement and nobody in their right mind would ever listen to him — and he is posted on this site on a nearly daily basis.

I know this is to drive up the hit counts, so is it wrong to ask why there is no one dedicated to watching Olbermann every night and fact-checking his rantings? Is it because no one can tolerate that many doses of KO, or is it that he does not have enough of a draw for anyone to care?

  • marquis2.0

Oh snap! Now I get why this Glynnis c u n t is soo pissed off. First of all her retarded name. But even worse than that, check out how effin ugly this chick (*and I use that term loosely) is. This pic is of her at Obama’s big speech at invesco field (her personal savior and messiah).

Believe me when I say she’s got more than a dash of that downs syndrome look to her. This ho belongs with Corky on “Life Goes On” oh shit son!

  • http://lnsmitheeblog.blogspot.com LNSmithee

Knock it off, Marquis. You’re no better than the Trig-haters with that schtuff.

  • http://lnsmitheeblog.blogspot.com LNSmithee

sueNaustin, why do you find it hard to believe that false rumors were spread about Glenn Beck dying in a plane crash? People were altering Rush Limbaugh’s Wikipedia page on Friday morning to say that he died of a heart attack! And remember how some people were trying to make the world believe that hours after Michael Jackson died, Jeff Goldblum had died in an accident on a movie set?

  • ImNotBlue

    Boy was I wrong.

Yeah… but that’s never stopped you before.

Can we get this guy muzzled, please?

  • sueNaustin

LNSmithee, the point I was trying to make (evidently ineffectually) was that I, like most of the country, had not heard this rumor. If we had, it would have been twittered like crazy, just like Rush Limbaugh’s heart problem. Glenn Beck, himself, had to bring up this plane crash rumor.

  • ImNotBlue

    sueNaustin says:
    January 4, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Yeah, I was confused by your initial post as well… wasn’t sure if you were blaming Beck for talking about that rumor, or if you simply hadn’t heard it until Beck brought it up.

Either way, I guess the folks who get their jollies by falsely spreading rumors about Beck, are becoming increasingly less relevant (if that’s possible).

  • sueNaustin

OK, I just am calling BS on the plane crash rumor. Glenn Beck was wanting some of the attention that Rush was receiving. I am sure Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Billo (and all the others) get all kinds of unwarranted attention and e-mails and threats. But a rumored plane crash the same holiday time as Rush that no one heard about? An attention grab. However it is his radio show, so he can say whatever he wants.

@MartiniShark: I’m sure there are those who watch Olbermann, but regular posts about him probably wouldn’t generate as much traffic. I mean, sure he uses colorful language and big words, but Beck and his demons can be downright entertaining.

    It’s sort of like the old match-up between CSI: Miami and Studio 60;
One is watched by millions, while other became a cult classic.

(Though I’m sure somedays, especially when there’s a troll who should be banned, Glynnis probably wishes, she hadn’t have drawn the short straw.)

I dunno, Mag. The videos of Olbermann contradicting himself… his inability to bottle his own anger, resorting to telling the President to “Shut the hell up!”… the fact that he’s always orange and can’t talk to people who disagree with him. I dunno… pretty funny stuff.

The real reason why they talk about Beck and not about Olbermann… easy: ratings. People watch Beck… a lot of people… while a small fraction watches Olbermann. The same goes for the reason why Mediaite talks about FNC… there are more stories to talk about, because more people are paying attention. However, since this is a media site (or it’s supposed to be), they should fairly talk about everyone, not just the big dog. But, that’s life I suppose.

  • http://www.nukethefridge.com MartiniShark

I gathered as much, but for the sake of balance, or bi-partisanship, or basic variety it can’t hurt. Keith’s fuming at Twitter for creating a bogus account that was in fact set up by MSNBC is an all-time classic. There is material available . . .

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

@ImNotBlue: I’d probably agree with 85% of what comes out of Olbermann’s mouth, but I can’t watch him for more than a minute or two at a time, totaling maybe ten minutes a month.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

PS) Though I also couldn’t watch an entire Beck, but I haven’t minded the five minute clips.

  • http://www.karlspensen.blogspot.com Karl Spensen

ImNotBlue, the fact that I have reduced you to a PARANOID, RAVING STALKER is more than enough to convince me that I have WON!!1 Although as I have mentioned before, it’s a SHAME that we have our DIFFERENCES!!1 Your SNIDE, CONDESCENDING tone matched with my UNABASHED PASSION for exposing SOCIOFASCISTS could do WONDERS for the Conservative movement!!1 Until then, I will BASK in my victory, knowing that you are sitting in a room littered with CHEETOS BAGS desperately trying to DIG UP anything you can find on me!!1 HahahahahaHAHAHAHAhaha lololololzzz!!!!11

I used to try to hit up his “Worst Persons” or “Oddball” because they were stupid and funny (well, Oddball was funny… Worst was usually insulting). He’s just so angry… I can’t stand the perpetual outrage, when the spin is soooo obvious. It’s like his thinks his audience is dumb!

As for Beck… he’s not my thing, and rarely will I turn on his show. A few friends of mine actually worked with Beck pre-sobriety… and have interesting stories… none of which I’ll share, because (IMO) they’re irrelevant… but interesting. Anyway, I find him too dramatic, and I’d prefer things to be a little more serious, a little less goofy. But that’s me… to each his/her own.

It’s not tough to dig stuff up on you, my friend. Just by Googling your name + “Spensen”, you can find out so much! Who knew you were so into karaoke?!!1

Hey buddy, this is just journalism 101… stuff MSNBC should have taught you. Does NY1 know you don’t know how to do that? And more importantly, when you act like a jackass perpetually on a JOURNALISM website, you might expect that one of those trained journalists, puts those skills to use.

Now as I said before… knock it off. Your joke has run its course. You graduated, move the heck on and grow up. Comment like a big boy, and stop wasting everyone’s time. Thank you.

I am not totally a fan of the show, but I do not think or feel that the learning curve of anyone is particularly enhanced through firing them. The issue of a higher cause is that most of the people at this range of skill are still at a learning curve. The fact of winning someone is more in line with keeping them and modifying behavior in real time than perhaps one or two unseemly words for a career. The facts are, that reinforcing error is the result of jobs that are pointed up or down. The real thing is a public censure and the market itself watching in front of its TV a person improve at heart rather than forced economic depravity. Taking food, clothing and shelter for success is not a very high evolution for the employment process. Why not have him review a behind the scenes approach of learning why his statement may have been so painful and then the solution as a Desmond Tutu being upfront and learning in real time – and don’t do it again.
Life is a sport and one word or so to create fatality is beyond educated growth for anyone. We learn with occupation and he has a position that soured is a loss of occupation. Give him a big break and few hail Mary’s for good. Fair play is different than liking someone or not. I choose to be a citizen of earth, and local rude is not good enough. Speed dating

    @MartiniShark

There are lots of people that regularly watch Olbermann. Most because they enjoy his show and appreciate his insight, some to see if he trips up. The reason why you don’t see constant stories and reports about distortions, misrepresentations, and getting the facts completely wrong like you hear constantly about Beck, about Olbermann is because Olbermann actually knows what he is talking about, check his facts, and is almost always right and on target. Take the time to fact check him and you’ll see. I’ve done it from time to time, and I have never found him to misrepresent, distort the facts, or outright lie like Beck does on a regular basis.

Outrageous lies that play to people’s ignorance and fears makes better entertainment and has made Beck rich.

Olbermann has been proven to be wrong time and time again. I’ll watch him on occasion, but just the WPITW stuff, but otherwise, he is too out there for my liking, plus he never allows an opposing view on his show. It’s his way or the highway. I’ll watch Beck on occasion, but I’m not a regular viewer of his either. But honestly, Beck has the good — video’s of real words — you can’t disagree with that.

As for why Olbermann never (or rarely) makes headlines here, I have two thoughts:

    1) Olbermann isn’t effective, Beck is.
    2) Liberals don’t usually criticize other liberals.
