The Onion Fools The New York Times With Fake Obama Tiger Beat Cover

Today The New York Times admitted they made the mistake of treating a fake creation from The Onion as something legitimate. Last week the Times printed an article documenting the history of the squeaky-clean teen magazine Tiger Beat, and included a retrospective of past magazine covers. Unfortunately (or humorously depending on one’s perspective), in the collection they also included a parody cover created by The Onion, which featured President Obama.

The correction printed today in the Times:

A series of pictures last Sunday of covers of the magazine Tiger Beat, with an article about how the original teen-girl tabloid has remained virtually unchanged since its inception in 1965, erroneously included a parody cover, produced by the satiric newspaper The Onion, that featured a picture of President Obama.

NY Times Onion kerfuffle > Dan Rathers kerfuffle?

  • Skippy

This is the reason why Glenn Beck is leaving Fox and aiming for a younger audience.

There isn’t enough time left to indoctrinate, er, educate ‘murka’s young brown shirts about the impending Google Tiger Beat Face Book Taco Bell Caliphate.

    Nice work, Slimes.

Layers upon layers of fact-checking indeed.

Nah. Rather was malicious. The Times was just stupid.

State-run media will do anything to clean up this president’s image….and brother his image is surely tarnished.

You understand we’re talking about the New York Times making a mistake (again) here, right? I don’t think you’ll find many republicans on staff at the Times.

“Today The New York Times admitted they made the mistake of treating a fake creation from The Onion as something legitimate.”

The NYT motto: “All The News That’s Fit to Fake.”

“The Gray Lady” has become “The Gray Whore”

When will they ever learn over there? They make the same mistake with their own fake newspaper all the ” TIMES “.

  • MrTPar_taY

I am watching The Celebrity Apprentice tonight and though I know the contestants are all celebrities I am in total shock to realize how much they lack in knowledge about marketing. They market themselves and their talents every day and they had no idea how to create an advertisement. I could not believe that the men had no clue about using spell check. Who doesn’t know to type your copy in a word document first, use spell check, then paste it into whatever publishing software you are using? I saw right away that both ads were too wordy, there was no call to action, it needs to grab your attention immediately, it should be memorable, and the pictures should not overpower the brand and what it stands for. I think I could have done a lot better than both groups did. Also, the contention between the contestants in each group only proves their egos are constantly getting in the way. A project manager must have the ability to lead without being critical of the team members. They must learn each member’s strengths and weaknesses and assign the tasks according to their individual attributes. They must also not lose their cool and give guidance without becoming a jerk. If I were given the opportunity to work with any of these people, I wouldn’t take it.

I’m sure there is a job for them at the White House, or anywhere in this current administration… Gotta lower those Unemployment numbers to look like we are doing something right…

Hey everyone! Paul Krugman, the tweed-jacketed, pipe-smoking, faculty-lounge Communist for the New York Times (they have a lot of this type there) has released his latest screeching diatribe that says exactly what his last eleven columns have. If you want proof of the NYT’s ineptness and how much of a joke it has become, laugh along with us at the near-suicidal Paul Krugman.

I wish the guy would stop threatening to jump from a rooftop and just DO IT already. Sheesh…what a whining limp-wrist he is.

  • Zentaucik

Article story was very spicy and the topic of this is good for everyone. Because anyone can’t expect this by NY times.

Roflol! Heh, this is about to go up in the Big Oops section of my site. Keep the muckups coming, NY Times and other liberal media! Reports of such mistakes should be balanced, after all, and for all the muckups Fox does that gets lulzed at by liberals, I love me a good laugh at whenever liberals shoot themselves in both feet.

The libs had kittens over 7 pages on this very story when it appeared on Fox News about how malign their intentions were. LOL! They are conspicuously absent from this story.

There goes the NYT grasping for some kind of long straws making this current administration look good…or at least it’s leader…well done, unfortunately the washer only looked like it was working…so no spin for you this time. Suggestion NYT, try reporting the news and not making it up to serve your agenda.

  • helpamerica

That is not surprising – millions of people mistake fox “news” as a legitimate news organization.
