Decade of Hell, 10-Year War, Decade of War, all of these are fitting. When you sit back and truly think of the most signficant events over the past decade, we've been at War in one fahion or another. From 9/11 to Present Day, we've been fighting a war against "ourselves"; politically or ortherwise, fighting against other nations, other countries, other 'beliefs'. We've seen the worse of man-kind on many levels. We've seen our trust in people, in instutions, in fairness, get obliterated. While these are not catchy nor flashy nor "cool" names for the past decade, they are very real, heart-felt, saddended names to describe what's got to be literally the WORST decade!!

Decade from Hell = the George W. Bush Amateur Hour x 8 years.

Why don't we just call it the 'What did you expect from a life long failure named George W." decade?"

The Decade from hell? More like the decade of reality checks. We've seen the depths
of madness and Heights of charity and hope. Elected our first non-white president only
to discover 'same crap different day' isn't muted by skin color. New ways to communicate
with each other that physically isolate us from each other more. For every cure science brings.
Mother natures creates a new disease to confound it. The fraying of the ties that bind us together
as a nation.... and wardrobe malfunctions! So maybe things aren't so bad after all....:P

"Why wasn’t Time honest and just say “It’s because we hate Bush”?"

Because they (Time) are not honest.

True. Bush was absolutely horrible. He most certainly contributed to this horrible decade.

Perhaps if they stretch it by calling this past decade "peacetime" and then use that as a big qualifier to exclude the tumultuous 60, the depressive 30s and the Civil War just off the top of my head - Yeah, aughts were worse than the 20s, 50s, 70s, 80s and 90s. As for reaching back into the 1800s, I'd have to think about it, but I'd guess that because communities were pretty isolated, bad times may not have spread.

I'd agree with Time if they specified it was the "Decade From Hell" for the middle class.

As soon as the markets saw Cheney/Bush were reverting back to the failed trickledown economics of Reagan the recession started in March, 2001.

The engine of American prosperity, a product of the New Deal and progressive policies post WWII, was utterly and perhaps permanently destroyed on the mantle of enriching those who needed it the least. We'll all be paying for that fateful decision the remainder of our natural lives and beyond.

I'm going to have to challenge Time's judgment on this one. Regardless of how baby boomers like to fondly reminisce about the 1960s, that decade brought us:

• The assassinations of JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.
• The Vietnam War (far worse in political repercussions and body count than the current wars and 9/11 combined)
• Prominent Americans proudly displaying their racism against the Civil Rights movement
• A celebrated counterculture that encouraged the use of debilitating drugs
• Hippies (God help us, the music might have been sweet, but the clothes and hairstyles were every bit as repugnant as the 1970s)
• LBJ's entire administration, which gave way to the rebirth of Richard Millhouse Nixon.

NICE GOING 1960S! THANKS FOR NOTHING.
