U.S. Senator Max Baucus To Marry Melodee Hanes
Senator Max Baucus has, at the age of 69, proposed to Melodee Hanes – the woman he had previously recommended as Montana’s U.S. Attorney while the two were living together. Talking Points Memo shares that the Democrat popped the question over Christmas in Montana’s capital, Helena.
Hanes and Baucus’ relationship has, understandably, been one rocked by its fair share of controversy, with Hanes choosing to eschew her hopes to become U.S. Attorney in light of her relationship with the senator. She had formerly acted as director of Baucus’ state offices. Oh, and some, back when Hanes and Baucus’ coupling was first brought to light, were concerned that their relationship may have killed healthcare reform. (It’s worth noting that Newsweek offered a lengthy antidote to the onslaught of negative press Baucus and his “mistress” received in late 2009.)
The marriage, set for this summer, will the the third for Baucus, who divorced his second wife, Wanda, in 2009 after 25 years of marriage.
